Trump says this ‘grandstander' Republican should be voted out of office

President Donald Trump wants to see voters oust Rep. Thomas Massie, R-KY. The 47th president made this wish clear to reporters on Tuesday during a trip to Capitol Hill to coalesce House Republican support for his tax and immigration bill known as the 'big beautiful bill.' During the visit, one reporter asked Trump whether he agreed with Massie, who on X suggested that the bill's passage would result in bigger deficits and 'Biden levels of spending.' 'No, I don't think Thomas Massie understands government. I think he's a grandstander frankly. We don't even talk to him much,' Trump said. 'I think he should be voted out of office. And I just don't think he understands government. If you ask him a couple of questions, he never gives you an answer. He just says, 'I'm a no.' He thinks he's going to get publicity.' The bill Trump wants to see passed features major components of the president's agenda, including the extension of the 2017 Trump tax cuts, $50 billion to renew construction of Trump's border wall and a committed $150 billion in defense spending to be used for shipbuilding and a missile defense system Trump calls 'The Golden Dome,' according to ABC News. The bill also tightens eligibility requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) with adults aged 55-64 and children facing additional work requirements to qualify for benefits, ABC News reports. In a Monday post on X, Massie claimed that Trump's 'big beautiful bill' would add $20 trillion of federal debt over 10 years. 'But there's another huge problem: it will increase the price of the $36 trillion of debt we already have, as bond buyers realize we aren't fiscally responsible.' Despite Trump's meeting with Republicans, in which he urged them to stick together and pass the bill, Massie is still a no, according to Politico. Republicans have a majority of 220 seats in the House of Representatives, with 213 Democrats. They can only afford three Republican 'no' votes, assuming all Democrats also vote against the bill. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said this week it was 'absolutely essential' for the Republicans to unite and pass the bill, saying, 'there is no time to waste.' Mass. Musk trashes Trump's ‘big beautiful bill': A ‘disgusting abomination'

For the past few months, President Donald Trump has been pushing Republicans to pass his tax and immigration mega-bill that he calls 'one big beautiful bill.' For Trump ally Elon Musk, however, this piece of legislation passed by the House of Representatives last month is anything but 'beautiful.' Musk, the CEO of Tesla who recently left the Trump administration, took to X on Tuesday to eviscerate the spending bill, calling it 'massive,' 'outrageous,' 'pork-filled,' and a 'disgusting abomination.' 'I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore,' Musk wrote. 'Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.' Read more: Trump ally Elon Musk stepping back from political spending The bill that Trump wants to sign into law contains major components of his agenda, such as the extension of the 2017 Trump tax cuts, $50 billion to renew the construction of his border wall and a committed $150 billion in defense spending to be used for shipbuilding and a missile defense system he calls 'The Golden Dome,' according to ABC News. The bill was passed by the House 215-214 in May and will be reviewed by the Senate. In another post, Musk wrote that the bill would increase the country's budget deficit to $2.5 trillion and 'burden America citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt.' This isn't the first time Musk has criticized Trump's 'big beautiful bill.' During a May interview on CBS News, Musk said he was 'disappointed' by the bill and argued that it undermined the Department of Government Efficiency's (DOGE) goal of reducing the country's deficit. Musk was chosen by Trump to create and oversee DOGE at the beginning of his second term. 'I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful,' Musk said, 'but I don't know if it can be both. My personal opinion.' Some Republican members of Congress posted in agreement with the billionaire on X, a social media platform Musk himself owns. 'The Senate can make this bill better,' wrote Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah. 'It must now do so.' Rep. Thomas Massie, R-KY, reposted Musk's post and wrote, 'He's right.' Massie was one of two Republicans who voted against passing Trump's mega-bill last month, the other being Rep. Warren Davis, R-OH. Massie had previously criticized the bill on X, arguing that its passage would result in bigger deficits and 'Biden levels of spending.' During a trip to Capitol Hill to rally House Republicans in support of the bill, Trump called Massie a grandstander and claimed he doesn't understand politics. 'I think he should be voted out of office,' Trump told reporters. 'And I just don't think he understands government. If you ask him a couple of questions, he never gives you an answer. Trump DOJ investigates Biden's pardons: Report

President Donald Trump's Department of Justice is investigating pardons issued by former President Joe Biden over concerns about his competency and the use of an AutoPen to sign the documents, according to a report. Ed Martin, the DOJ's pardon attorney, wrote in an email reviewed by Reuters that the investigation would examine if Biden 'was competent' and if other people were 'taking advantage of him' by using the AutoPen 'or other means.' Reuters reported Martin's investigation will examine the number of preemptive pardons Biden issued to members of the House Select Jan. 6 committee, his family members and their spouses, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and others. The investigation will also examine the clemency approved by Biden that spared 37 federal inmates from the death penalty and instead changed their sentences to life in prison. Martin's email did not specify which Biden family members would be investigated, Reuters reported, but he shared a post online Tuesday signaling his attention to Biden's pardons. For months, Trump has said he believes Biden's last-minute pardons should be void because he signed using the AutoPen, which is a device that automatically signs a document. Trump and his allies have claimed that Biden's use of the AutoPen while in office means he was not in control or was not aware the pardons were being signed. It hasn't been confirmed if Biden used an AutoPen for the pardons, but analysts have noted that many other presidents have used AutoPens in the past. While a president has the authority to pardon individuals, no subsequent president can rescind them, the U.S. Constitution states. During a briefing Tuesday, press secretary Karoline Leavitt defended Trump's belief about voiding the AutoPen pardons. 'The president is making a good point when he discusses the hostage of the AutoPen, who was running the country for the past four years? Perhaps those documents were signed with the AutoPen, something that is, I believe, the Department of Justice is looking into,' Leavitt said. She argued that Biden's competency was a 'huge issue' that sent Trump back to the White House and Americans want answers, hence the investigation. She also noted the investigation is less about Biden's use of the technology to pardon, but his competency on the matter. 'The question is not was the AutoPen used, it's whether or not the President of the United States knew it was being used, and if not, who was using it in his name?' Leavitt questioned. Leavitt highlighted the DOJ's investigation on Tuesday, noting Martin's role, but Reuters noted that his email did not specify who he intended to launch the pardon investigation. The DOJ declined a request for comment from the Deseret News. A spokeswoman for Biden refused to comment on the development, according to USA Today.
