What Happens After Death? Baba Vanga's Insights Vs Science

News183 days ago
Across different cultures and religions, there is a shared belief that some part of us often called the soul, spirit or consciousness that survives beyond the physical body.
Baba Vanga's prediction about a 'double fire" rising from both heaven and Earth is creating a wave of concern among people. Nobody knows the exact meaning of this prediction, but many believe it is a warning about natural disasters like wildfires, volcanic eruptions, etc. Some are even linking to the newly discovered interstellar object 3I/ATLAS, which is being speculated to be an alien spacecraft.
While it remains what it means, this prediction suggests that Baba Vanga may have believed in the ideas of heaven and hell, even though she never clearly explained the soul or what happens after death. Moreover, some of her forecasts point to a broader cosmic view that goes beyond life on Earth. According to various online sources, Baba Vanga predicted that humans would make contact with aliens around the year 2130, followed by a war against these extraterrestrials in 3005.
When such cosmic and spiritual themes surface, naturally, one question again finds a spotlight: What really happens after death? In different cultures and religions, it is believed that some part of us never really ceases to exist. This part is often called the soul, spirit or consciousness that survives beyond the physical body. The idea of survival beyond death has shaped many views about the afterlife. These include concepts of heaven and hell, reincarnation, etc. But science is also exploring the idea of what happens after death by studying many of the near-death experiences (NDEs).
For example, in Christianity and Islam, the soul may go to heaven as a reward or hell as a punishment. These places represent eternal happiness or suffering. In religions like Hinduism and Buddhism, the soul is believed to be reborn into a new life, a process called reincarnation. Here, the soul's next life depends on karma, which is the sum of a person's good and bad actions. Good karma leads to a better rebirth while bad karma can cause a more difficult one.
Near-Death Experiences
Many people who have been close to death have shared fascinating stories that seem to suggest consciousness might survive beyond the body. These are called Near-Death Experiences (NDEs). Common elements of NDEs include:
Floating above one's body and watching the scene below.
Feeling a deep sense of peace and timelessness.
Seeing bright lights or tunnels.
Meeting spiritual beings or deceased loved ones.
Reviewing one's life in a vivid way.
For example, Leanda Pringle from Connecticut floated above her body during a severe kidney infection. She described it as a feeling of being everywhere and nowhere at the same time.
'I've no idea how long I was floating in that abyss before I began to feel a presence," she told BBC Focus.
Tommy McDowell, a former soldier from Texas, felt immense peace and love during a week on a ventilator. He saw a 'crystallised light" that seemed to wash away his past pain. 'I experienced the presence of God. It was overwhelming and occurred in a way that I just don't have the language to fully describe," he said.
Tessa Romero, clinically dead for 24 minutes, felt free from pain and sorrow, and saw her own body from above. 'It was as if a heavy burden had been lifted from my shoulders," she wrote in a book.
What Science Says About Near-Death Experiences
Scientists have collected thousands of testimonies from people who have experienced NDEs. These experiences are linked to changes in the brain caused by low oxygen levels (hypoxia) and other neurochemical reactions as the brain approaches death, according to the National Association for the Research of Premature Mortality (NARPM®).
In 2024, a study from the University of Michigan, led by Dr Jimo Borjigin, recorded brain activity in four dying patients. Two showed a surge of brain waves shortly after life support was withdrawn. This activity involved areas of the brain linked to consciousness and decision-making. Dr Charlotte Martial, a neuropsychologist, called the findings 'extremely intriguing" but cautioned that since the patients did not survive, it is unclear if they actually had NDEs.
Animal studies also offer insights. Borjigin's team previously found that rats undergoing asphyxia showed a massive release of neurotransmitters such as serotonin which surged to 20 times normal levels. These findings suggest that neurochemical changes may contribute to the intense subjective experiences of NDEs.
Research on psychedelics such as DMT, LSD, and psilocybin also supports this view. These substances interact with brain receptors related to neurotransmitters like serotonin and provoke experiences similar to NDEs.
'One can hypothesise that some endogenous molecules [those made within the human body] mimicking DMT or ketamine mechanisms could be released in life-threatening situations, such as when someone experiences a NDE," said one of the scientists on the team as quoted by BBC Focus.
Beyond biological explanations, research shows that NDEs often leave profound psychological effects. Professor Emerita Janice Holden from the University of North Texas categorises these into psychological (such as losing fear of death and becoming more altruistic), spiritual (increased interest in spiritual topics), physical (changes in metabolism and sensitivity) and social (changes in relationships and lifestyle). Given these deep impacts, some mental health experts advocate for better support for critical care patients who experience NDEs.

Alien mothership 3I/ATLAS could reach Earth in just 113 days, says Harvard professor. Will it bring salvation or destruction?

Alien mothership 3I/ATLAS could reach Earth between November 21 and December 5, 2025, as per a Harvard professor. The expert claims the object named 3I/ATLAS, travelling at 135,000 mph, may be an alien spacecraft or mothership. The unidentified object is travelling towards Earth and is expected to arrive in just 113 days. Harvard professor Avi Loeb has suggested it could be an alien spacecraft, raising global interest and debate among scientists.3I/ATLAS was first spotted on July 1, 2025. Astronomers noticed it travelling through the solar system at high speed. It is only the third interstellar object ever detected in our solar system. Scientists initially believed it to be a comet or a large piece of space Avi Loeb has proposed that the object might be of technological design rather than natural origin. He compared it to Arthur C. Clarke's science fiction novel Rendezvous with Rama, where a foreign object in space turns out to be an alien ship. Loeb believes 3I/ATLAS could be a mothership carrying probes or other estimates that 3I/ATLAS could reach Earth between November 21 and December 5, 2025. It is currently travelling at about 135,000 miles per hour. According to NASA, it will reach its closest point to the Sun on October 30, 2025, around 130 million miles from have not been able to measure the exact size due to the object's distance. Estimates suggest it measures between 20 and 24 kilometres across. This makes it far larger than the previous interstellar object detected, which was only about 100 metres long. Loeb has highlighted the unusual size and direct path towards the inner solar system as reasons for further NASA and the European Space Agency have classified 3I/ATLAS as an interstellar comet. They say its path and behaviour match known patterns for such objects. Loeb accepts this as the simplest explanation but maintains that more investigation is needed to rule out the possibility of advanced all scientists agree with Loeb's theory. Chris Lintott, an astronomer at the University of Oxford, has called the alien probe idea 'nonsense' and said it undermines research into the object's true nature. Other astronomers stress that extraordinary claims require extraordinary has warned that if 3I/ATLAS is an alien vehicle, it could be friendly or hostile. It might carry technology meant to help humanity, or it could pose a danger. He suggests that all interstellar objects should be studied carefully to confirm they are natural.3I/ATLAS is an interstellar object discovered on July 1, 2025. It is travelling at 135,000 mph and is expected to reach Earth's vicinity between November 21 and December 5, Loeb believes 3I/ATLAS might have a technological origin due to its size, path, and speed. Massive Object Racing Towards Earth Could Be Alien Spaceship, Warns Harvard Scientist

The discovery of fast-moving object 3I/Atlas has sparked debate, with Harvard's Avi Loeb suggesting it might be an alien spacecraft The age-old question of whether humanity is alone in the universe has once again returned to the spotlight after the discovery of a mysterious, fast-moving object heading toward Earth. The celestial visitor, designated 3I/Atlas, has sparked a heated scientific debate, with one prominent Harvard professor suggesting it might be an alien spacecraft capable of saving or destroying our planet. The object was first detected on July 1, 2025, and is currently hurtling through the inner solar system at an estimated 1,35,000 miles per hour, according to NASA. The agency says it will make its closest approach to the Sun on October 30, at a distance of roughly 130 million miles from Earth. While NASA insists there is no immediate threat, uncertainty over its nature has captured public attention. Harvard astronomer Avi Loeb, known for his unconventional theories about extra-terrestrial life, believes 3I/Atlas could be more than just a comet or asteroid. Drawing parallels with Arthur C Clarke's sci-fi classic 'Rendezvous with Rama', in which a seemingly natural object is revealed to be an alien craft, Loeb said that the object might show signs of 'technical design". He warned that it might carry anything from a reconnaissance probe to a weapon. 'It can come to save us or destroy us," Loeb told reporters, adding that humanity must be prepared for both scenarios. 'We should ensure all alien objects are just rocks," he said. Loeb's calculations suggest the object could reach Earth between November 21 and December 5, 2025. NASA estimates the body is between 20 and 24 kilometres in size, nearly 200 times larger than 'Oumuamua', the cigar-shaped interstellar object detected in 2017 that also stirred alien speculation. Due to its distance, scientists cannot yet determine its exact dimensions or composition. While Loeb's statements have made headlines, not all experts are convinced. Oxford University astronomer Chris Lintott dismissed the alien theory outright, calling it 'complete nonsense" and warning that such claims undermine the serious scientific work being conducted on the object. NASA and the European Space Agency currently classify 3I/Atlas as an outer solar system comet. Loeb concedes this is the most likely explanation, yet insists a 'slight possibility" remains that it is an artificial craft. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Perseids meteor shower tonight: Here's how to watch rare sight and Northern Lights

The night sky promises an extraordinary display tonight, August 13, as one of the year's brightest meteor showers, the Perseids, coincides with possible sightings of the northern lights. The Perseids, known for their fast and brilliant fireballs, are caused by debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle burning up in Earth's atmosphere. At the same time, auroral activity may occur thanks to ongoing solar winds interacting with Earth's magnetic field, reported People. Where and when to watch the Perseids and Northern Lights. (Owen Humphreys/PA) When to watch the Perseids According to another CNN report, the Perseids peaked earlier on Tuesday afternoon, but the best viewing opportunities come tonight in the early hours of Wednesday. There are two main windows for catching meteors: Evening Window (Aug. 12–13): Between dusk and moonrise, there's roughly an hour of darker skies before the bright waning gibbous moon rises. Pre-Dawn Window (Aug. 13): The last couple of hours before sunrise offer another chance. While the moon will still be bright, the most luminous meteors can be spotted by facing north toward the constellation Perseus. This year's full moon glow will limit visibility to around 10-20 meteors per hour instead of the usual 40-50, but bright fireballs will still stand out, the CNN report added. Also read: Atlas may not be a typical comet, could be alien mission, says Harvard physicist When and where to see the Northern Lights The People report cited NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center, solar wind streams from multiple coronal holes are boosting auroral potential with the Kp index expected to reach about 3.67. While the chance of a minor G1 geomagnetic storm is slowly declining, northern regions like Alaska and northern Canada could see shimmering auroras tonight if the skies are dark and clear. Other celestial sights tonight In addition to meteors and auroras, skywatchers can spot Venus and Jupiter, which are still close after a conjunction, shining brightly in the eastern sky before sunrise, the CNN report stated. Saturn will also be rising before midnight near the moon, which will add to the night's spectacle. Viewing tips Find a dark site far away from city lights. Your eyes will need nearly half an hour to get accustomed to the dark environment. Look north for auroras; celestial objects around 40° over Perseus herald meteor activity. Make sure you are dressed for the cold and bring a blanket or chair. Be patient, as the very best shows can take their time. FAQs What causes the Perseids? They are fragments from Comet Swift-Tuttle burning up in Earth's atmosphere at high speeds. Why is the meteor count lower this year? The bright moonlight washes out fainter meteors. Where can I see the northern lights? Best chances are in far northern regions such as Alaska and northern Canada. When is the next big meteor shower? The Orionids, peaking October 22–23, will be the next major celestial event.
