Porsche Centre Oman signs a two-year partnership with OAA
'We are proud to sponsor a project that aligns with our legacy of motorsport excellence,' said Mohamed A R Qassim, Director of Porsche Centre Oman.
The championship series is distinct in that it will consist of classes to cater for both race license holders and leisure karting participants. Porsche Centre Oman will provide full branding, racing suits and financial support for licensed drivers and cash prizes to the podium winners.
'Supporting the next generation of drivers is key to Porsche Centre Oman's vision in the region and this partnership reflects our commitment to youth development and motorsport innovation in the Sultanate of Oman,' said Mohamed.
The calendar season will also include a 24-hour endurance race along with other races scheduled to be taking place at the Muscat Speedway, starting with the first round of races in September.
'This new championship series for both licensed racers in Rotax Max and leisure karts marks a new era for karting in Oman,' said Sulaiman al Rawahi, Managing Director of the Oman Automobile Association (OAA).
'Partnering with Porsche Centre Oman allows us to elevate the level of competition and offer new opportunities for aspiring drivers across the country.'
With the partnership running through until the third quarter of 2027, Porsche Centre Oman will provide financial prizes, and equipment such as branded race suits, while a new Instagram channel will also be launched to promote the upcoming series.
Supporting youth sports and building engagement within the community has long been a cornerstone of Porsche Centre Oman's philosophy. The opportunity to support the burgeoning motorsport industry and empower future generations of Omani race drivers starting at grassroots levels made an alignment with the Oman Automobile Association a natural alliance. Porsche has a long history of supporting motor racing in the Middle East with the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East being the pinnacle, showcasing 15 seasons of competition across the Gulf. Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East provides the ultimate inspiration for future Omani stars who can now begin their climb up the professional motor racing ladder on leisure karts and then the Rotax Max Challenge as part of the the Porsche Centre Oman Karting Championship Series.

Oman: SalamAir releases 2nd quarter on-time performance data
Muscat: SalamAir, Oman's low-cost carrier, has announced its On-Time Performance (OTP) results for the second quarter of 2025, reaffirming its commitment to operational reliability and transparency. OTP is a measure of how often an airline is on time and is an indicator of the airline's ability to meet its commitment to punctuality for its customers. The Emirates A350 begins regular operations to Muscat
Dubai: Emirates' highly anticipated Airbus A350 is now a regular sight at Muscat International Airport, with the start of regular daily services between Dubai and Muscat. The deployment of the next-generation aircraft, originally slated for 1 July, was brought forward by a week. The aircraft operates flight EK 866, which departs Dubai at 2:15 am and arrives in Muscat at 3:30 am. The return leg, EK 867 departs Muscat at 4:40 am and lands in Dubai at 5:55 am, perfectly timed to help customers connect for their flights to destinations in Europe, Americas, Africa and Asia. * The three-class aircraft offers 312 seats with 32 lie-flat seats in Business Class arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, 21 Premium Economy seats in a comfortable 2-3-2 setup, and 259 spacious Economy Class seats in a 3-3-3 layout. Oman: New strategy to boost pharma investments
Locally manufactured pharmaceuticals accounted for just 4.6% of total medicine purchases in 2023. The Omani government has unveiled a new strategic policy aimed at attracting investments into the country's pharmaceutical sector, with the dual objective of strengthening drug security and reducing reliance on imports. Despite some recent gains, the gap between local pharmaceutical production and import dependency remains significant. As of end-December 2023, locally manufactured pharmaceuticals accounted for just 4.6% of total medicine purchases, with imports making up the remaining 95.4%. However, national production capacity has shown encouraging growth — from a mere 1.8% in 2021 to 4.7% in 2022. According to Dr Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health (MoH), the new policy envisions the establishment of pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities within economic zones, free zones, and industrial cities, in line with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Speaking to Duqm Economist, the newsletter of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), Dr Al Sabti said these zones offer a highly conducive environment, supported by advanced technical infrastructure, efficient regulatory frameworks, and integrated support services aligned with international standards. 'Industrial cities and special economic and free zones are attractive investment environments due to the financial incentives and regulatory facilitations they offer, including customs and tax exemptions. These advantages help lower production costs and enhance competitiveness,' he noted. Currently, eight pharmaceutical factories are operational in Oman: five fully integrated drug production facilities, two plants producing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for human medicines, and one facility focused on secondary packaging as an initial step in the production chain. While these factories are spread across industrial cities and free zones, the majority are located within industrial cities, which offer more advanced infrastructure and integrated services — factors that contribute to improved manufacturing quality and faster market availability. 'Measures are in place to support pharmaceutical factories in obtaining international accreditations such as GMP and ISO. Oman has a clear vision to position itself as a regional hub for pharmaceutical exports, in line with Oman Vision 2040,' the Minister stated. Dr Al Sabti affirmed that the Ministry is actively encouraging foreign direct investment (FDI) in the sector and promoting strategic partnerships with leading international pharmaceutical companies to facilitate technology transfer, localise production, and build domestic expertise. To this end, the Ministry is working to streamline registration and licensing procedures and is supporting public-private partnerships to foster an integrated and sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem. The aim, he said, is to drive innovation and ensure the availability of high-quality, efficient medical products. A key element of the new strategy is the fast-tracking of registration processes for locally manufactured medicines, supported by technical assistance throughout the regulatory cycle and accelerated quality testing to ensure safety and compliance. 'Recognising the strategic importance of this sector for national health security and self-sufficiency, the Ministry has established a robust regulatory framework in line with global standards. Through the Drug Safety Centre, we provide continuous technical support to manufacturers during planning, implementation, and licensing phases to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements. Locally manufactured medicines are given priority in the registration and evaluation process,' Dr Al Sabti added.
