WWE founder Vince McMahon ‘caused multi-car crash on day Hulk Hogan died'
Mr McMahon destroyed his Bentley in the crash, which took place a few hours before TMZ reported the death of the wrestling star.
Hogan, who made his name in Mr McMahon's World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) company, died following a cardiac arrest last Thursday.
Mr McMahon, who is separated from his wife, Linda, President Donald Trump's education secretary, was cited for reckless driving and following too closely.
The crash took place last Thursday morning on the Merritt Parkway in Westport, Connecticut, state police said. No one was injured.
Mr McMahon was released on a $500 bond and ordered to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Aug 26.
Representatives for Mr McMahon are yet to comment.
Photos taken appear to show heavy damage to the front end of Mr McMahon's 2024 Bentley Continental GT Speed.
The police report said Mr McMahon was driving northbound on the parkway, also known as Route 15, when he rear-ended the BMW and crashed into a wooden guardrail.
A car travelling in the southbound lanes struck debris from the crash that flew over the guardrail, state police said.
There were no passengers in the cars and all three drivers were wearing their seat belts, police said.
The air bags in Mr McMahon's car and the BMW deployed.
Mr McMahon stepped down as WWE's chief executive in 2022 amid a company investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against him.
He also resigned as executive chairman of the board of directors of TKO Group Holdings, the parent company of WWE, last year, a day after a former employee filed a sexual abuse lawsuit against him.
Mr McMahon denies the allegations, the lawsuit is still pending.
Following Hogan's death, Mr McMahon said in a post on X: 'The world lost a treasure today. Hulk Hogan was the greatest WWE Superstar of ALL TIME, someone who was loved and admired around the world.
'He was a trailblazer, the first performer who transitioned from being a wrestling star into a global phenomenon.'
