Chelsea receive Joao Felix transfer message from Benfica
Benfica president Rui Costa says he would be keen to sign Joao Felix from Chelsea but admits the Portuguese club are unable to finance a move. Felix returned to Chelsea in a £46.3 million deal from Atletico Madrid last August but the 25-year-old struggled secure a regular role under Enzo Maresca and ended up joining AC Milan on loan in the January transfer window. The Portugal international failed to recapture his form in Italy and AC Milan ended up deciding that they would not sign him on a permanent deal this summer. Felix made his professional debut for Benfica's reserve side in 2016 and played just one full season in the first team before his £113m move to Atletico Madrid three years later. Benfica continue to be linked with re-signing Felix but Rui Costa says the Portuguese club are a 'long way' from that deal due to the forward's transfer fee and salary with Chelsea. 'Every year I get asked this question. If we could bring back players from our academy, who have the quality and prominence that a player like Joao has, we would all like that, all Benfica fans would like that,' Rui Costa said on Friday after Benfica arrived in the United States ahead of their Club World Cup campaign. 'We have to understand two things. The players are not free, they have very high contracts with the clubs and very high transfer fees. Arsenal have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Nico Williams after the highly-rated youngster held talks with two European rivals. The Gunners are looking to bolster their attacking ranks ahead of next season, having seen a shortage of forwards derail their title charge last season. Williams has long been linked with a move to the Emirates however it seems as though they have fallen behind in the race to sign the Bilbao starlet. Mail Sport understands that Williams has held talks with both Barcelona and Bayern Munich as he explores a potential move away from Bilbao. The 22-year-old stamped his mark as one of the most promising wingers in football after starring at Euro 2024 with tournament winners Spain, forming a formidable wing partnership with Lamine Yamal. Williams is said to be earning around £6.7million per year at Athletic Club, but reports claimed that the Spain international had indicated he will lower his demands to secure a move away. The 22-year-old winger played 45 times in all competitions for Athletic Club last season, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists. Williams had played a key role in Spain's European Championships triumph last year, starting six of their seven matches in Germany. The winger scored Spain's opening goal in the 2-1 final victory over England in Berlin. Williams has so far made 28 appearances for the national team and has scored six goals. Meanwhile, Real Madrid's Rodrygo has also emerged as a top target for the Gunners, who are looking to add firepower to their team. The Brazilian put big clubs across Europe on alert when he reportedly told Madrid he never wanted to play for them again having refused to feature in last month's El Clasico against Barcelona. The Brazilian winger was said to be upset about playing a secondary role behind superstar team-mates Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham, and was increasingly warming the bench under Carlo Ancelotti last season. Los Blancos would demand a significant fee if they are to part ways with Rodrygo, believed to be somewhere in the region of £70m.

Boca Juniors defender Costa gets special U.S. visa for Club World Cup following earlier rejection
June 13 (Reuters) - Boca Juniors defender Ayrton Costa will be able to take part in the Club World Cup in the United States following a u-turn by U.S. immigration officials who had previously rejected his visa application, the Argentine club said on Friday. "Ayrton Costa has been granted a 26-day special visa," a club spokesperson told Reuters. Costa's visa application was subject to a criminal complaint in his native Argentina, relating to an aggravated robbery in 2018, which he avoided trial for by accepting a probationary sentence in 2023. However, U.S. officials previously ruled that he could not enter the country as he was still serving his sentence. The press office at the U.S. embassy in Argentina told Reuters that they cannot discuss individual visa applications. Boca Juniors will open the tournament in Miami on Monday against Portuguese side Benfica.
