Braves place 5-time all-star ronald acuña jr. on the injured list with achilles tendon inflammation
The Atlanta Braves put five-time All-Star Ronald Acuña Jr. on the 10-day injured list with right Achilles tendon inflammation Wednesday, though the exact severity of the injury to the slugging outfielder may not be known until additional testing is done. The Braves recalled outfielder Jarred Kelenic from Triple-A Gwinnett to take his place on the roster. Acuña first experienced discomfort in his calf area Monday night when he scored from first on Austin Riley's double to help the Braves to a 10-7 victory over Kansas City. Acuña lobbied to play on Tuesday night, and Braves manager Brian Snitker assented, only for Acuña to come up limping while trying to chase down a ball in right field in an eventual 9-6 loss. 'It happened when I scored from first to home on that play,' Acuña explained after the game, speaking through an interpreter. 'They are going to examine me (Wednesday), so we'll see how it goes.' Even after he came up limping, Acuña wanted to remain in the game. He headed out to his position in the field but saw Eli White trotting out to replace him. That Acuña was able to jog into the dugout at least generated some optimism that the injury to the Achilles tendon was not a complete tear and he could be back this season. 'I was kind of out there hoping they wouldn't hit it my way, and of course, any time you do that, they always hit it your way,' Acuña said. 'I told them (about the pain Monday), and everyone said: 'Take the day if you want it. You can have the day off.' I've missed so much time already through injuries; I didn't want to miss any more time.' Acuña, the National League MVP in 2023, has dealt with injuries for much of his career. He missed time as a rookie in 2018 with a sprained left knee ligament, then tore the ACL in his right knee to end his 2021 season. Last year, he pivoted awkwardly as he was taking his lead on the bases and wound up tearing the ACL in his left knee, ending his season after 49 games. Only twice in eight seasons has Acuña managed to play more than 119 games. After missing the start of this season, Acuña returned May 23 and began playing at an All-Star level again. He was hitting .306 with 14 homers and 26 RBIs in 55 games, including a 2-for-4 night with a homer against the Royals on Monday night. 'It's an injury I'm worried,' Acuña said of the latest issue, which comes amid a season in which Atlanta has been devastated by injuries–particularly to its starting rotation. 'It's more pain, but it feels kind of–I feel it a lot when I try to put pressure on it.' Kelenic, the sixth overall pick of Seattle in the 2018 amateur player draft, has struggled to live up to his potential. He hit .231 with 15 home runs and 45 RBIs in 131 games for Atlanta last season but was sent to Gwinnett in April of this season after he hit .167 with two homers and just two RBIs over the first 23 games with the Braves. White is expected to be Acuña's primary replacement. He is hitting .255 with four homers and 18 RBIs in 72 games.

Buffalo Sabres home arena to remain KeyBank Center
The Buffalo Sabres' home arena will continue being called the KeyBank Center after the two sides announced a 10-year naming rights extension on Wednesday. The new deal will kick in next year and run through 2035-36. The Cleveland-based bank has a large regional presence in Buffalo and took over the downtown arenas naming rights after acquiring First Niagara Bank in 2016. As part of the extension, the bank's name will be featured on the Sabres' helmets for away games starting this season. The arena is undergoing a series of long-needed renovations since first opening in 1996. Last year, the Sabres replaced the roof and installed a new video scoreboard over center ice. The next series of renovations are expected to address upgrading the seats and fan amenities. The Sabres control the building, which is also home to the three-time defending National Lacrosse League champion Bandits, and have placed an emphasis on adding more events since Pete Guelli took over as the teams' chief operating officer last year. In November, the arena will host one of Paul McCartney's 20 North American tour stops, as well as host a pre-Olympic US. vs. Canada women's hockey Rivalry Series game. The Sabres, meanwhile, have been struggling on the ice, with the team in the midst of an NHL-record 14-season playoff drought.

Dolphins CB Kader Kohou to go on season-ending IR with knee injury
Dolphins starting cornerback Kader Kohou will miss the 2025 season after suffering a knee injury in practice on Saturday. Miami coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday morning that Kohou, a former undrafted player who quickly worked his way into a starting role, will go on injured reserve. Kohou went down grabbing at his right knee after a one-on-one rep against receiver Tyreek Hill during practice. He remained down for a couple minutes while being looked at by trainers before walking gingerly, but under his own power, off the Dolphins practice field. 'I've seen him come into the league with nothing promised and earn his spot within this team,' McDaniel said. 'And this year in particular, I saw him ascend to a different level, trying to take the reigns of his career and get his game to an even higher level. For that and the timing of it, I was crushed until I talked to Kader, and honestly Kader made me feel a little bit better about where he was at simply by his mindset.' Kohou signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and has recorded 180 tackles, one sack, and three interceptions in three years. It's a significant blow to Miami's secondary that has undergone significant changes since the end of last season. All of the Dolphins starters in the secondary – including All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who was traded, and safety Jevon Holland, who left in free agency – are gone. Miami recently signed veteran cornerback Mike Hilton, who figures to be the likely starter in the slot this season. Former Raiders and Patriots cornerback Jack Jones also recently signed with Miami to compete for an outside cornerback spot. Other options on the boundary include veteran Kendall Sheffield, Cam Smith, and Storm Duck. McDaniel said he feels good about the Dolphins depth at cornerback right now but did not rule out the possibility of signing another experienced player. 'If there was a situation in a week where I didn't feel that we were good,' McDaniel added, '(general manager) Chris (Grier) and I would talk and we would get something done there.' Miami's secondary will also be without Ashtyn Davis for a while after the safety suffered a noncontact injury in practice this week. McDaniel said the team is still evaluating the extent of the injury, but it isn't expected to be season-ending.
