Pakistan rubbishes India's Shaheen missile claim

Express Tribune19-05-2025
Pakistan on Monday vehemently rejected Indian media claims that it used the Shaheen missile, which can carry nuclear warheads, during "Operation Bunyanun Marsoos".
Indian media reports claimed that Pakistan used nuclear-capable Shaheen-II missile – a medium range ballistic missile with a range of 2,500 kilometres – but was intercepted by its S-400 air defence system.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has firmly rejected the unfounded allegations circulating in certain segments of the Indian media, which falsely claim that Pakistan employed the Shaheen missile during Operation Bunyanun Marsoos (BM)," according to the Foreign Office spokesperson.
The spokesperson said those claims originated following the release of a video by the Indian Army's official Twitter handle, purportedly showing the use of Pakistan's Shaheen missile. Upon realising that the claim was unsubstantiated, the Indian Army promptly deleted the misleading video.
However, by then, sections of the Indian media had already amplified the false narrative without verification. Regrettably, some Indian outlets continue to propagate this misinformation, according to the spokesperson.
The spokesperson said that it was noteworthy that the Indian Army's official handle has remained silent on the matter, offering neither clarification nor retraction for the erroneous post.
Analysts observe that such disinformation campaigns are part of a deliberate attempt to obscure India's setbacks in its Operation Sindoor, which were a result of Pakistan's demonstrated conventional military capabilities.
"Additionally, these fabricated stories align with New Delhi's ongoing efforts to promote a misleading narrative regarding the ceasefire and baseless allegations of so-called 'nuclear blackmail' by Pakistan," the Foreign Office pointed out.
The range of weapons used by Pakistan is detailed in the ISPR press release of May 12. The Pakistan Armed Forces employed precision-guided, long-range Fatah series missiles—F1 and F2—as well as advanced munitions, highly capable long-range loitering killer drones, and precision long-range artillery.
Fatah-1 is a surface-to-surface guided missile developed by Pakistan. This series also includes another missile, Fatah-2. According to Pakistan military's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), this missile has a range of up to 400 kilometers and is capable of accurately hitting its target.
The military sites in India and in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) targeted by these assets are also listed in the ISPR Press Release of May 12.
Disseminating unverified and inflammatory content not only undermines regional stability but also reflects poorly on the professionalism of official institutions, cautioned the spokesperson.

KP CM takes exception of ‘misrepresentation' of his statement

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has expressed strong concern over the Indian government's misrepresentation of his recent statement, describing it as a deliberate attempt to deflect attention from India's longstanding involvement in sponsoring terrorism and destabilizing peace in the region. In his detailed policy statement issued here in this regard on Friday, he condemned Indian longstanding involvement in terrorism across Pakistan and the entire region, stating that India has consistently played a destabilizing role, both directly and through covert means. 'As ex-Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs, I am fully aware of the ground realities,' he said. 'I am writing to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and will personally appear before it to expose what India has done, and continues to do, in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan', he added. The chief minister said that India's involvement in orchestrating terrorism in Pakistan is undeniable, particularly highlighting India's network of over a hundred consulates in Afghanistan — which, according to him, were never meant for diplomacy or trade but served as operational hubs to orchestrate terrorism within Pakistan. He vowed to expose India's role in fuelling instability, especially in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying: 'I will go there personally and tell the whole world what India has done. I will reveal how deeply your government is involved in terrorism in Pakistan. Our entire party, led by Imran Khan, and the Pakistani nation, are united in defending our country.' He further said that India orchestrated attacks on Chinese nationals, strategic infrastructure, and other assets in Pakistan, saying that all such incidents are ultimately linked to Indian interests. JI to hold rallies for Kashmir, Palestine

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar Khan announced that protests, rallies, and demonstrations will be held across the city on August 5 to mark 'Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir' in solidarity with the people of Kashmir and Palestine. He was addressing a press conference at the party's headquarters, Idara Noor-e-Haq on Friday Monem Zafar condemned the Indian government's abrogation of Article 370 and equated the actions of India in Kashmir and Israel in Gaza, criticizing the global silence over the humanitarian crises in both regions. He particularly called out the Muslim world for failing to take a firm stand against the use of starvation as a weapon in Gaza, where he said over 60,000 civilians had been killed and many more were now dying of hunger. He urged Pakistan's military leadership, particularly Field Marshal Asim Munir, to spearhead efforts to unite the Muslim world against Israeli atrocities, saying Pakistan, as a nuclear power, has a greater responsibility. Turning to Karachi's deteriorating law and order, Monem Zafar cited alarming figures: 56 people killed in street crimes, over 26,000 motorcycles snatched or stolen, and 354 lives lost in traffic accidents over the past six months. He criticized the Sindh government for failing to act, accusing it of focusing on revenue collection through vehicle number plates while ignoring its basic duties. He demanded the government issue number plates free of cost, noting that citizens had already paid for them. He said the administration had lost its writ in Karachi, pointing to poor services, broken infrastructure, and lack of clean water and electricity. He also questioned the Pakistan Peoples Party's claims about building 800,000 houses for flood victims, calling for transparency and urging clarity on the K4 water project's funding shortfall. Despite these challenges, he said, Jamaat-e-Islami's 'Make Karachi Green' campaign is progressing with plans to plant 100,000 saplings across the city. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

India's rhetoric fueling instability: FO

Listen to article Pakistan on Friday categorically rejected what it called "baseless and irresponsible statements" made by Indian political leaders in the Lok Sabha regarding the so-called "Operation Sindoor", reiterating that such rhetoric only fuels instability in South Asia. Foreign Office spokesperson, Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan, addressing his weekly press briefing, said, "The world knows that India carried out attacks on Pakistani territory without a shred of credible evidence. The so-called strikes on alleged terrorist sites led to the martyrdom of innocent civilians. India failed to avail itself of Pakistan's immediate offer for a joint probe into the Pahalgam incident, which speaks volumes about the falsity of their claims." He underscored that Pakistan's defense capabilities remain a strong deterrent against any adventurism by India. "For us, the only path to normalcy lies in mutual respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and adherence to international laws and UN charters. India's continued reliance on jingoism, chest-thumping, and empty rhetoric is jeopardizing regional peace and stability." The spokesperson also dismissed recent remarks by the Indian Home Minister on the Indus Waters Treaty, saying such "displaced assertions carry no legal weight and cannot alter established international agreements." Reaffirming Pakistan's position on terrorism, Ambassador Khan stated: "Groups like BLA and TTP are recognised as terrorist organizations. Evidence shows they are being funded and facilitated from across the border. We have consistently raised this matter with Afghan authorities and expect decisive action." On relations with India, he said Pakistan remained open to dialogue based on mutual respect and international law but would continue to vigorously defend its sovereignty against any false narratives or hostile actions.
