Ipswich Town transfer rumour: Trio linked with right-back swoop

Yahoo2 days ago
Three teams are reportedly eyeing a move for Ipswich Town defender Harry Clarke.
SportsBoom claim that Championship sides Bristol City and Coventry City, as well as Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian, are all vying for the 24-year-old's signature.
Clarke has dealt with various injury issues in the last two years. He is currently sidelined with a knee ligament issue that could rule him out for an extended period.
He helped the Blues secure promotion from League One up to the Premier League, playing seven games in the top flight last season before joining Sheffield United on loan.

Town are well-stocked at right-back, with Ashley Young and Ben Johnson seemingly ahead of Clarke in the pecking order.
Verdict
It doesn't make sense for Ipswich to carry three right-backs in their squad - especially when Dara O'Shea can also cover that position.
With that in mind, a departure - loan or permanent - would make sense for Clarke, but the big question mark is his injury.
At the time of writing, we don't know how long he will be out for, but the indication is that it won't be a short-term injury.
If he did depart, you'd think that a Championship move would appeal over the Scottish Premiership. If Coventry were to lose Milan van Ewijk, who has been heavily linked with a move to Wolfsburg, it would certainly make sense - just not if he's going to be sidelined for a long time.

Toronto acquires midfielder Mihailovic for $8 million from the Colorado Rapids

TORONTO (AP) — Toronto FC have acquired attacking midfielder Djordje Mihailovic in a trade with the Colorado Rapids for $8 million, the teams announced Thursday. The cash-for-player exchange includes another $1 million if certain performance goals are met. Mihailovic, 26, signed a three-year deal that will keep him in Toronto through 2028 with a club option for 2029. He will occupy a designated player roster spot. 'When I first joined the league, Toronto was a powerhouse, and I could tell it was one of the best teams in MLS. I know the history and potential of this club and where it can go," Mihailovic said in a statement. Over the course of his career, Mihailovic has played for the Chicago Fire, CF Montreal, and Dutch club AZ Alkmaar in addition to the Rapids. He's scored 48 career goals with 63 assists. He has scored nine goals with seven assists this season for Colorado. 'We communicated our vision for the club moving forward, and Djordje expressed his excitement in embracing the responsibility as the focal point of our new project,' Toronto general manager Jason Hernandez said. 'We know Djordje is only beginning to enter his prime and will be a key piece of our franchise for many years to come." Mihailovic has also played for the U.S. national team, appearing in 11 matches with three goals. ___ AP soccer:

Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson leaves practice after being hit in the back

OXNARD, Calif. — Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson was hit in the back on Thursday and left practice early. Ferguson was hurt in a red-zone drill when linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr. made contact with him during a passing play. Ferguson stayed down on his back for several minutes, with teammates surrounding him, but he was able to get up under his own power. 'I just got to keep my teammate up,' Murray said. 'Down in the red zone, everything happens fast, you know, just trying to be on it quick. There's not a lot of space, not a lot of room.' Ferguson was examined by a trainer and appeared to be trying to stretch out his back before leaving the field at the start of the next period. Quarterback Dak Prescott described the hit as two players acting on instincts that are 'hard to turn off in split-second moments.' 'More importantly, Jake jumped up, Jake dapped him up and said he was good, and we're going to move forward,' Prescott said about Ferguson shaking hands with Murray after the hit. Ferguson signed a four-year, $52 million extension on July 27 that includes a $12 million signing bonus. He had 59 catches for 494 yards but did not have a touchdown reception last season. The previous year, Ferguson had career highs with 71 catches for 761 yards and five TDs. The Cowboys also had rookie running back Jaydon Blue and reserve offensive lineman Dakoda Shepley exit Thursday's workout with lower-body injuries. Dallas lost starting left tackle Tyler Guyton for four-to-six weeks because of a fracture in his right knee on July 28, one day after backup guard Rob Jones broke a bone in his neck that will keep him out for two to three months. ___ AP NFL:

Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor leaves game vs. White Sox in 3rd inning

SEATTLE — Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor left Thursday's game against the Chicago White Sox after grounding out to second base to end the third inning. There was no official word from the Mariners on why Naylor left the game. In his first at-bat against White Sox starter Shane Smith, Naylor grimaced after swinging at a high, inside fastball. He walked down the first base line and back before finishing his at-bat, which ended with a strikeout.
