Milton Keynes youngsters make DJ history with sold-out performance in Ibiza
The UK's youngest DJ duo – just 10 and 12 years old – have performed a sold-out gig at a resort in a renowned party hotspot. DJ Steady and DJ Yaya makeup the duo known as Half Punk, whose name and performance pay homage to music legends Daft Punk.
With schools closing for the summer, the pair, who are from Milton Keynes, have traded their school desks for DJ decks to join the likes of David Guetta, Carl Cox and Solomun in entertaining crowds in Ibiza. The record-breaking pair headlined the TUI Holiday Villages Seaview's Ibiza Family Opening Weekender on Saturday, 26th July.
The duo even wear replicas of Daft Punk's iconic high-tech helmets. They were joined on stage by Yaya's younger brother, MC Mari, real name Marley, who introduced them to the audience.
Half Punk's set list was packed with top 20 club anthems voted for by the public. The 1992 hit Rhythm is a Dancer by SNAP! topped the poll, appearing on 28 per cent of voters' lists. It was closely followed by ABBA's Dancing Queen from 1976, which was voted for by 27 per cent
In addition to rocking the resort, the young DJs also aimed to shake up the industry by inspiring more girls to take to the turntables.
Despite improvements in recent years, only 20 per cent of DJs booked for the 2025 Ibiza party season are women.
Half Punk's international debut challenged gender bias and celebrated the resort's new entertainment programme, which taps into 'family raving'.
This comes after research by TUI, which revealed a surge in demand for daytime clubbing events and family raves – with these searches increasing by an astonishing 53 per cent since 2023.
'What an incredible way to celebrate the start of the school summer holidays and a new season of brilliant entertainment at Holiday Villages' said Natalie Johnson, Concept and Proposition Manager at TUI Holiday Villages.
'Half Punk were out of this world, and to say the crowd went wild is an understatement."
'We're really proud to showcase this talented pair of young DJs who we know have such bright futures ahead of them - and our MC was the ultimate hype man," she added.
'It's certainly a night none of us will forget.'

Formed around 20 years ago, they travel around playing at different occasions such as weddings, parties and community events as they challenge the perception that piping is stuck in the past. Danny Hutcheson, who has been a piper with the band since 2018, said: 'We are a bagpipe and drum band that play modern music from Mamma Mia by Abba to Shut Up And Dance by Walk The Moon.' Hutcheson has been a part of the band ever since he stood in for someone once who was unable to make an event. On performing at the fair, he said: 'I've been excited ever since we got the shout to return. 'We're going down early to soak it all in and chill before our performance. I am buzzing for it, and the people who have not been before are excited to see it. 'We want to have a celebration where people can party, drink, have a fun time and enjoy themselves.' Preparation for the fair started as far back as January as a part of a big team effort to get everything organised ahead of the weekend. There will be a falconry display with Mark French, a ferret show by Simon Whitehead, and a stunt show by the Stannage Stunt Team. A demo kitchen set up by Nick Morris from Station House Cookery School returns for another year where he will be serving up many tasters throughout the weekend. Also returning for 2025 is Betty's Bake Off, where people are welcome to compete in a friendly competition with prizes arranged for some lucky entrants. Sunday will see children's favourite Road Runner take to the Galloway Country Fair stage. There is also an entertainment zone for children which features mini quads, bouncy castles, an assault course, laser quest, bumper cars, a bungee trampoline and a giant inflatable fun course. For the adults, there is axe throwing and an adult assault course. Dogs are also more than welcome, with water stations and paddling pools in the grounds to help cool canine friends. Cash For Kids, which supports children in need across the region, is the charity partner and some money from Saturday's bingo show, the programme, bake off and dog shows goes towards supporting it, as well as a stall set up on site. While the event attracts locals, Local people come back each year but also people from as far as Cumbria and Fife make the journey to the fair. It all gets started at 10am on the Saturday until 6pm and then again on the Sunday from 10am until 5pm. Tickets are available on now with people also able to buy entry on the day. Freddie Mercury refused to 'fix teeth' for reason you'd least expect
Queen frontman Freddie Mercury was born with four extra teeth, which caused him to have a prominent overbite. Despite feeling self-conscious about them, he never got them fixed The iconic Freddie Mercury once attributed his extraordinary singing voice to a unique physical trait. The Queen legend was conscious of his "extra teeth," but chose not to alter them, convinced they were the key to his vocal prowess. Mercury's voice stood out among his contemporaries, and the Don't Stop Me Now vocalist believed his additional teeth played a role. A recent post on the r/TodayILearned subreddit delved into why Mercury never opted for dental work, despite his overbite making him self-conscious. The Reddit post stated: " Freddie Mercury was born with four extra teeth, causing a prominent overbite. Despite being self-conscious about them, he never got them fixed, believing the extra space in his mouth contributed to his vocal ability. He feared altering his teeth might change his voice." Fans have since shared their thoughts on Mercury's choice. A Mercury enthusiast commented: "It is entirely possible that it would have changed his voice. Not his vocal range, which was extraordinary, but the timbre." Another fan added: "The greatest male singer ever. Always will be." A third shared: "This is common for singers and very valid. Altering any part of vocal resonances chambers will alter the sound. Sinuses, mouth, throat. Leave it alone if you sing for a living." The conversation has sparked further discussion among music fans, sharing anecdotes of other vocalists who have resisted corrective surgeries, wary of affecting their singing abilities. Elton John, Barbra Streisand, and Tobias Forge from the Swedish rock band Ghost are all seemingly wary of undergoing surgical procedures that could potentially alter their signature singing voices. A music enthusiast commented: "Not rare for vocalists to be worried about things like this. The vocalist of Ghost got his nose smashed in a fight when he was younger. "It affected his sinuses and he very often gets bad infections that are hard to clear out. "He hasn't gotten it fixed because he also thinks that his mangled sinuses are part of what gives his singing voice its characteristic sound." In 1987, Elton John would have an operation that would leave a lasting impact on his vocal performance for many years of his illustrious career. Speaking to Billboard in 2004, he reflected: "My voice is the thing that's really improved the most over the last few years. There's more resonance to it." He elaborated on the changes post-surgery: "It started to change when I had the operation in Australia after the live album, because of the nine cancerous ... whatever it was on my vocal chords."
