NBB Participates in Tree Planting Drive in Zallaq and Zayed Town

In commemoration of World Environment Day, the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) participated in a large-scale tree planting drive on 17th May 2025 across the Kingdom's Zallaq and Zayed Town localities. The activity was conducted under the 'Forever Green' campaign launched by the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) in cooperation with the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, and the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE). The project aims to support national ambitions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change impact while enhancing Bahrain's aesthetic appeal and honouring its agricultural legacy.Marking the fourth phase of the nationwide campaign, the event was organised in collaboration with the NIAD where a total of 206 seedlings were planted over a combined area of 2,518 square metres across Road 55 in Zallaq (745 square metres) and Road 20 in Zayed Town (1,773 square metres). 118 neem seedlings were planted in the Zallaq location, while 76 neem and 12 jatropha seeds were planted along the Zayed Town spot. These seed varieties are well-suited for Bahrain's arid climate and can withstand harsh environmental conditions.The activity was inaugurated with an official ceremony at the Zallaq site in the presence of Her Excellency Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of NIAD, Usman Ahmed, Group Chief Executive Officer of NBB, and Zaina Alzayani, Group Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer of NBB. They were joined by other stakeholders from the agricultural and environmental sectors as well as the Bank's employees who voluntarily took part in the exercise in support of a greener Bahrain.On the occasion, Her Excellency Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of NIAD said, 'This ongoing collaboration with NBB stands as a model for effective public-private partnership in advancing the goals of this national afforestation campaign and promoting environmental sustainability in the Kingdom.'For her part, Zaina Alzayani, Group Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer at NBB stated, 'Our involvement in this project reflects our long-standing belief that real change starts with deliberate action. We are proud to have made another contribution to the national sustainability objectives by helping increase Bahrain's green cover. Planting over 200 seeds across two important locations of the Kingdom is a meaningful way to translate our environmental pledges into tangible outcomes. It is a reminder that sustainability is built on consistency, accountability, and a shared vision for a healthier planet.'
The tree planting drive forms part of NBB's wider Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) efforts aimed at contributing positively to the preservation of Bahrain's natural landscapes. AlMabarrah AlKhalifia Foundation (MKF) has successfully concluded its 2025 Ithra Summer programs, which ran from June to August and included: Ithra Buds, Ithra Young Leaders, and Ithra Youth. The programs reflect the Foundation's commitment to equipping young Bahrainis with the skills and knowledge to meet the demands of the future, while fostering personal growth and community engagement. This year's edition targeted three distinct age groups: 10–12, 13–14, and 15–16. Each track adopted a comprehensive, hands-on approach encompassing accredited workshops, field visits, interactive challenges, training camps, sports days, and artistic and community projects. The content focused on future-ready skills, artificial intelligence, self-discipline, creative thinking, entrepreneurship, arts, and financial literacy, all aimed at preparing participants for the next phase of technological and global advancement. Notably, 2025 marked the launch of Ithra Youth for participants aged 15–16, designed to develop leadership skills, build self-confidence, and strengthen understanding of artificial intelligence. The initiative achieved a participation rate exceeding 90%, reflecting its appeal and effectiveness. All program content was developed based on surveys and interviews with the target groups to ensure alignment with the actual needs of Bahraini youth. The workshops were designed to integrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with activities delivered year-round during academic breaks as well as other intervals. Commenting on the occasion, H.H. Shaikha Zain bint Khalid Al Khalifa, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees at MKF, stated, 'The measurable impact of our Ithra programs reflects our commitment to providing an environment where young people can explore their potential and build their skills for future success. They are a core part of our summer initiatives, which also include the 'Job Shadowing' and 'Training Camp' initiatives. We are proud of this ambitious generation and remain dedicated to introducing exceptional opportunities that enrich their educational journey.' To deliver the programs, MKF partnered with more than nine prominent professional and educational entities, including the Child Protection Unit at the Ministry of Interior, the Bahrain Space Agency, the National Bank of Bahrain, Pro Boxing Ladies Studio, Vanilla Café, and Bon Coffee, owned by Ms. Najiba Bousnan. The Foundation also collaborated with a number of distinguished figures such as H.H. Shaikh Turki bin Hamad Al Khalifa, H.H. Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Ms. Donya Madara, Ms. Nayla Al Kaabi, and journalist Yousif Ahmed. Established in 2011 as a licensed and registered non-profit organization licensed by Bahrain's Ministry of Labor and Social Development, MKF seeks to create a positive social impact in education and youth empowerment. NBB Concludes EVOLVE 2025 School Segment and Commences University Phase

The National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) has concluded the School segment of its 2025 EVOLVE summer internship programme and officially commenced the next phase for university students. During the first leg of this year's programme, 75 high school students took part in two weeks of classroom-based learning, followed by two weeks of on-the-job training where they applied their acquired knowledge in real-world professional scenarios. The EVOLVE University segment, which commenced on 10th August, builds on this foundation by offering 76 university students deeper exposure to NBB's specialised business areas and more industry-relevant training.
