The bodies of five skiers have been found on a glacier near the Swiss mountain of Rimpfischhorn, police announced on Sunday.
The bodies were found after two other skiers raised the alarm, saying that they had seen skis at the foot of the summit of the mountain, but had not come across the owners of them, the police statement said.
A rescue helicopter with medical professionals on board immediately flew over the area and the five bodies were 'quickly discovered,' the statement continued.
Three of the bodies were found some 500 meters (roughly 1640 ft) from where the skis were located, Swiss broadcaster Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) reported. The two other bodies were found nearly 200 meters (roughly 656 ft) higher, on a small, snow-covered area, it added.
Formal identification of the victims is ongoing. The Attorney General has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident, police said.

Hanover hit-and-run suspect vehicle found burnt: HPS
Hanover police have recovered the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run earlier in the week. Police recovered a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser. Officers said it was destroyed by fire in a bush lot on Sideroad 25 just north of Morry's Trailer Sales, in the former Brant Township. The Hanover Police Service is asking anyone who saw the smoke, the vehicle, or anyone in the area on Wednesday evening around 5:20 p.m., shortly after the collision. Video surveillance is also wanted. You are asked to look for the PT Cruiser from Concession 4 to Morry's Trailer Sales on Sideroad 25 between 5:25 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. in your footage. The suspect is described as a white man in his early 30s, wearing a dark coloured baseball hat and was picked up by a vehicle on Bruce Road 4 near Davis Hill Nursery in the same timeframe. Anyone who saw the suspect is also asked to contact police. The registered owner of the involved car has been interviewed and is cooperating with the investigation. 'Although this person was the registered owner, they have never had care and control of this PT Cruiser since it was purchased,' police confirmed. Officers are thanking the public for their help with this investigation. The driver is encouraged to surrender to Hanover Police. Police added if anyone is helping the suspect in anyway, could be prosecuted criminally.

Police investigating suspicious deaths of 2 people in downtown Sherbrooke, Que.
Quebec provincial police are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman after they were found badly injured in downtown Sherbrooke, Que., in the early hours of Sunday. Local police were called to Ball Street around 2 a.m. by a passerby after they found a severely injured man, 38, outside. While police were erecting a perimeter around the site, they discovered a 32-year-old woman who was unconscious inside a residence. Both were transported to hospital where the woman was declared dead shortly after. The man succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. The investigation has been transferred to the provincial police force, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). SQ spokesperson Louis-Philippe Ruel says they established what the relationship was between the two victims but would not share what they found.
