Brian Wilson, Beach Boys visionary leader, dies at 82

Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys' visionary and fragile leader whose genius for melody, arrangements and wide-eyed self-expression inspired 'Good Vibrations,' 'California Girls' and other summertime anthems and made him one of the world's most influential recording artists, has died at 82. Wilson's family posted news of his death to his website and social media accounts Wednesday. Further details weren't immediately available. The eldest and last surviving of three musical brothers — Brian played bass, Carl lead guitar and Dennis drums — he and his fellow Beach Boys rose in the 1960s from local California band to national hitmakers to international ambassadors of surf and sun. Wilson himself was celebrated for his gifts and pitied for his demons. He was one of rock's great romantics, a tormented man who in his peak years embarked on an ever-steeper path to aural perfection, the one true sound. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. ‘Sinners' returns to AMC for discounted screening on Juneteenth. What to know

Vampire horror flick 'Sinners' will head back to the big screen at AMC Theatres — for one day only. To celebrate Juneteenth, moviegoers can catch the hit film at a discounted 'Fan Faves' price at 330-plus theaters nationwide Thursday, June 19, according to the theater chain. Some tickets start at $5 plus tax, though 'Fan Faves' pricing varies by location, AMC said. The special pricing still 'offers significant value' compared to the cost of an evening ticket, according to the company. Juneteenth was named a federal holiday in 2021 and commemorates the day enslaved Black Americans in Texas learned they had been freed. The news came June 19, 1865, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. 'Sinners,' directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, is one of two films celebrating Black stories set to screen at AMC in time for the holiday. 'Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back,' according to IMDb. Fans can also see an early access showing of '40 Acres,' an action-thriller starring award-winning actress Danielle Deadwyler, AMC said. 'After a series of plagues and wars have left society in ruins, the Freemans are surviving on an isolated and well-protected farm, until they're forced to make a stand against a ravenous militia hell bent on claiming their land,' according to the theater chain. The film, premiering nationally July 2, will screen at 100 select AMC theaters on Juneteenth, the company said. AMC said the special programming initiative was made possible by an internal advisory council aimed at supporting the company's Black associates, improving cultural awareness and promoting its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. 'Sinners' premiered in U.S. theaters April 16 with advance screenings in IMAX formats, according to IMDb. The film grossed more than $350 million worldwide and is now available to buy or rent online, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Find your nearest AMC Theatre here.
