Uttar Pradesh government to set up yoga parks across state to promote daily practice

Hindustan Times18-06-2025
In a bid to integrate yoga into daily life and promote regular community participation, the Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled an ambitious plan to set up yoga parks across the state. These parks will be developed in collaboration with local bodies, including municipalities and gram panchayats, said a government spokesperson on Tuesday.
According to the plan, three yoga parks will be established in districts with divisional headquarters, and two parks will be developed in all other districts. District magistrates have been directed to identify appropriate locations and submit proposals in coordination with the urban development department.
The parks will include facilities such as trained yoga instructors, open gyms, resting spaces, clean drinking water, and adequate lighting.
The state government is set to celebrate the upcoming 11th International Yoga Day (June 21) not just as a one-day event but as a week-long festival promoting social and environmental awareness. The campaign is centered around two key themes — youth participation and environmental sustainability — and is being driven by two innovative initiatives: 'Yoga Unplugged' and 'Harit Yoga', said the spokesperson.
Yoga Unplugged is a state-level initiative designed to actively engage youth in yoga through creative, competitive, and social media-driven formats. The campaign is being run across government AYUSH colleges, vocational training institutes, universities, and degree colleges — with the goal of connecting lakhs of students to the cause.
Besides, the Harit Yoga campaign reflects chief minister Yogi Adityanath's commitment to environmental stewardship. It aims to blend the discipline of yoga with a message of nature conservation, spreading the idea that 'true yoga is the harmony of self-discipline and environmental protection'.

Rakshabandhan a symbol of duty and harmony too: Yogi

Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended greetings and best wishes to the people of the state on the occasion of Rakshabandhan to be celebrated on Saturday. In a message released on Friday, the Chief Minister said Rakshabandhan is a festival symbolising the mutual love, affection and trust between brothers and sisters. "It represents duty, sacrifice, social unity and harmony. While it is a festival celebrating the bond between siblings, it also honours the teacher-student tradition in India," he said. Explaining the root of that tradition, the CM Yogi said that Rakshabandhan is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Shrawan. In the tradition of ashrams, it was customary to tie protective threads to patrons and disciples after study and rituals during the month of Shravan, a practice that continues in the form of Rakshabandhan. "This festival also serves to enhance love and brotherhood in society and highlights the importance of charity," the Chief Minister said. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath (@myogiadityanath) took cognisance of the road accident, expressed condolences… — Press Trust of India (@PTI_News) August 8, 2025 The sudden fall of the tree brought instantaneous pandemonium and a long traffic jam. Police and the district administration immediately initiated a rescue operation to clear the road and free people trapped. Witnesses testified to a scene of pandemonium as passengers hollered for assistance, with some trying to get out through windows of buses. In one of the poignant moments of tragedy, a woman caught up in the bus was heard begging bystanders who were taking videos of the situation. "This is a matter of life and death here, and you are taping. If you had helped clear the branches of the tree, we would have been able to exit," she begged. According to reports, the crowd stepped in, pushing out the person taking the video, and assisted the rescue efforts to extricate her. The bus was traveling from Barabanki to Haidergarh when the accident took place, according to authorities. Five deaths have been confirmed by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), with four of them being women. The bus driver and two female teachers are among the dead and had been on leave to attend training but were apparently headed to school at the instruction of the Basic Education Officer (BO). Rescue efforts and relief operations were delayed by the heavy rain. Cutting tools were utilized by teams to cut sections of the tree and extricate the stranded passengers. All the injured were taken to nearby hospitals to receive medical attention. The authorities have informed that traffic along the affected route has now been restored to normal. There is an ongoing investigation into the horrific accident.
