Not Only Rishabh Pant! Another India Batter Batted With Finger Fracture Vs England

Karun Nair, it has been revealed, was dealing with a finger fracture in the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy but continued batting.
As is always the case with famous Test series away from home, India's 2-2 against England was sprinkled with many brilliant stories of individual valor and team brilliance. One such story has emerged about Karun Nair, the middle-order batter who made a comeback after eight years for the country.
According to a report in The Times of India, Nair fractured his finger while batting in the second innings of the fifth Test at the Oval. He still continued batting for the team and though his returns weren't game-defining, he survived a total of 32 balls to score 17 runs with three boundaries.
From next season onwards, he'd be up for selection in the South Zone as he has moved allegiances from Vidarbha to Karnataka, his home state, which he left a few years ago.
Karun Nair's career hangs in balance
It was a Bollywood-esque story of a comeback for Nair, who admitted to being completely broken after getting dropped in 2017. However, he scored only 205 runs, including one half-century in the first innings at the Oval. Questions were raised about his ability to be India's long-term number three.
'His feet don't move enough to be successful at No. 3. In that case, the options become limited and when it's a choice for Nos. 6 or 7, there are too many options. It's not just Shreyas (Iyer) and Sarfaraz (Khan). Even Axar Patel or Nitish Reddy can come into the picture depending on the nature of the pitches India are playing on," Deep Dasgupta told TOI.
Sai Sudharsan is breathing down Nair's throat at number three. The Tamil batter didn't put up huge scores either, but looked better technically. Nair would hope that the team decides to give him another chance at home to showcase his potential. The next Test series is a two-match one against the West Indies from October 2.

Rohit Sharma Starts Training For Australia ODIs With Former India Assistant Coach

Last Updated: Rohit will captain India in the three-match ODI series against the Australian team. The three ODI matches between India and Australia will be played on October 19, 23 and 25. India's ODI captain Rohit Sharma took to Instagram stories on Tuesday (August 12) to share a picture of him with former Indian men's cricket team assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. In the viral picture, Rohit can be seen in the gym, which is an indication that he has kicked off his preparations for the upcoming India's white-ball tour of Australia. The Indian men's cricket team will travel to Australia in the third week of October to take part in a three-match ODI series, which will be followed by five T20Is between the two teams in Australia. Since Rohit is only active in ODIs now, he will play the three 50-over matches. The series opener is scheduled to take place at Optus Stadium in Perth on October 19, and the next two ODIs will be played in Adelaide and Sydney on October 23 and 25, respectively. Rohit last played an ODI match for India on March 9, 2025, against New Zealand in Dubai. In the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, he opened the innings for India in the 252-run chase and scored 76 runs from 83 balls. For his super show with the bat in the summit clash of the Champions Trophy 2025, he won the Player of the Match award. view comments First Published: August 12, 2025, 21:10 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
