Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary. As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years. Here's a look at Luke Walton, a forward who played for the Lakers during a good chunk of the Kobe Bryant era. Walton, the son of Hall of Famer Bill Walton, played four seasons of college basketball at the University of Arizona under legendary coach Lute Olson and earned two straight first-team All-Pac 10 selections. The Lakers took him in the second round of the 2003 NBA Draft after his senior season with the Wildcats. The 6-foot-8 forward lacked the ability to score and was relatively unathletic by NBA standards. But he found his place within Lakers coach Phil Jackson's triangle offense, and he became adept at facilitating the offense and setting up the correct sequences. During his rookie season, the team reached the NBA Finals, and although it lost there in five games to the Detroit Pistons, he made a definite contribution in Game 2 with seven points, eight assists, five rebounds and two blocks. Los Angeles won that game in overtime, 99-91. The younger Walton stuck around long enough to win back-to-back championships with the Lakers in 2009 and 2010. His tenure with them came to an end late in the 2011-12 season when they traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He remained a member of the Cavs until the end of the following season. He later became an assistant coach of the Golden State Warriors during the 2014-15 campaign. Two years later, the Lakers brought him back as their head coach, a post he held until he left at the end of the 2018-19 season. Jimmy Butler channeled his inner Will Ferrell when Draymond Green dragged him into a back-and-forth on social media over the weekend. The exchange took place after the Miami Heat traded forward Haywood Highsmith to the Brooklyn Nets on Friday. The trade sent Highsmith and a 2032 second-round pick to the Nets in exchange for a protected 2026 second-round pick. Highsmith was looked at as a key piece to Miami's future while Butler still was with the team before the Feb. 5 trade to the Warriors, but Green appears to believe the praise, by some, was exaggerated. Highsmith averaged 24.6 minutes per game last season with the Heat, while scoring only 6.5 PPG. Butler averaged 17.5 PPG last season, which puts these two in completely different categories. The Heat reportedly made offers to the Phoenix Suns for now-Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant this offseason, but Miami team president Pat Riley was unwilling to include young assets like Highsmith. The complexities of Butler's relationship with the Heat organization ultimately were unreconcilable in the end, but he seems much more at home now with the Warriors and isn't too excited to contribute to Green's social media banter. LAS VEGAS (AP) — A'ja Wilson had 32 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks to help the Las Vegas Aces win their eighth straight game, 74-72 victory over the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday night. Wilson, who entered averaging 28.4 points and 14.4 rebounds in her last five games, secured her 116th career double-double — and 33rd with at least 30 points and 10 rebounds. It was Wilson's third straight 30-point game and third career game with 30-plus points, 10-plus rebounds and five-plus blocks — the most in WNBA history, surpassing Brittney Griner and Candace Parker. Jackie Young added 16 points and Chelsea Gray had eight points, seven rebounds and 11 assists for Las Vegas (22-14). Wilson, who was 12 of 24 from the field, became the youngest and fastest player in WNBA history to reach 2,000 career made field goals. Rhyne Howard had 19 points and six assists for led Atlanta (22-13), which had won seven of its last eight games. Allisha Gray and Griner each added 16 points. Atlanta scored the final five points of the third quarter and the opening six of the fourth for a 67-57 lead. But the Aces scored the next 13 points to take a 70-67 lead on Jewell Loyd's 3-pointer. The Dream went nearly six minutes without scoring in the fourth. Howard sank a contested 3-pointer with 1:37 left to tie it at 72-all before Wilson answered with a jumper at the other end.
