Porto are a club with great European pedigree, having won the European Cup in 1987 and the Champions League in 2004.
They qualified for the Club World Cup via the UEFA ranking pathway thanks to some strong Champions League showings between 2021 and 2024.
History at the Club World Cup
Porto have never played at the Club World Cup but did win the Intercontinental Cup in 1987 (beating Uruguayan side Peñarol 2-1 after extra-time in a one-off match) and in 2004 (beating Colombian outfit Once Caldas in a penalty shoot-out).
How did they perform in the 2024/25 season?
It's been a tough campaign for Porto with the Portuguese giants finishing third in their domestic campaign, failing to win any of the cups and getting knocked out of the Europa League and the first post-group stage hurdle.

Argentine coach Martín Anselmi has only been in charge of Porto since January 2025, having previously coached in Chile, Ecuador and Mexico respectively.
He has a reputation as a progressive, detail-oriented manager focused on high-intensity, possession-based football.

Spain international forward Samu Aghehowa will be one to watch at the Club World Cup.
Since joining Porto from Atlético de Madrid in the summer of 2024, the 20-year-old has been in impressive form, scoring 25 goals in 42 games, earning himself a call-up to Spain's senior squad last November, having won a gold medal for La Roja at the 2024 summer Olympic Games.
Expected performance at the Club World Cup
The Dragões will fancy their chances of emerging from Group A, where they will face Al Ahly, Inter Miami and Palmeiras.

But a disappointing season on the domestic front means it's difficult to imagine them doing much in the knockout stages, if indeed they get that far. A quarter-final berth would represent a solid achievement.

Newcastle insist the 25-year-old will not move unless they can source an adequate replacement and Liverpool meet their British transfer record price tag of a reported £150 million ($202 million). Newcastle's lack of firepower without Isak was exposed as they failed to break down 10-man Aston Villa in a goalless draw on the opening weekend. It has been another frustrating week for Eddie Howe in the transfer market as his attempts to land Brentford striker Yoane Wissa have stalled. Spurs a reminder of Man City demons City's 4-0 demolition of Wolves on the opening weekend sent a strong message of intent after a season to forget. The visit of Spurs is a painful reminder of City's fall from grace last season as Tottenham ran riot with a 4-0 victory at the Etihad in November, in the midst of a run of one win in 13 games for Pep Guardiola's men. Tottenham's Premier League campaign also got off to a flier with a 3-0 win over Burnley. Everton's new era Everton's new season got off to a frustrating start in a late 1-0 defeat by Leeds. But the hope of a bright future is the club's new state-of-the-art home on Liverpool's docklands. After decades in the doldrums for one of England's historically most successful clubs, Everton are banking on the Hill Dickinson Stadium to help bankroll a change in fortunes. But the move from Goodison Park, which had been home of the Toffees since 1892, is also fraught with risk. Goodison's intimidating atmosphere played a big role in helping save Everton from the drop in a series of difficult seasons in recent years. On the evidence of Monday's defeat, the Blues need their new home to be just as much of a fortress to avoid another relegation scrap. Amine Adli to Bournemouth is considered a ‘done deal'
Bournemouth are set to complete the signing of Bayer Leverkusen attacker Amine Adli (25). According to , the Moroccan's move to the Premier League club is considered a 'done deal' after both parties reached an agreement for a €30m transfer. Bournemouth will pay an initial €21m plus €9m in add-ons, some of which may be unachievable. Plettenberg further reports that a realistic total is around the €27m fee. Bayer Leverkusen have also given the green light for Adli to undergo a medical. The former Toulouse player – who also had interest from Sunderland and Marseille – has already provided one assist for B04 this season during their DFB Pokal win against Sonnenhof Großaspach. Adli's move to Bournemouth comes just hours after it was reported that the Bundesliga side are closing on an agreement with Manchester City to sign Argentine midfielder Claudio Echeverri on a season-long loan without an option to buy, beating Borussia Dortmund to sign the 19-year-old. Two Premier League games in October moved for TV
Two of Manchester City's Premier League matches in October will be shown live on TV in the UK. Our trip to Brentford will now be played on Sunday 5 October with a 16:30 (UK) kick-off and will be shown live on Sky Sports. And City's game away to Aston Villa will now be played on Sunday 26 October and will kick off at 14:00 (UK).
