Police offer R300 000 reward for information on the brutal killings of three officers
Jabulani Moyo is alleged to have killed two police detectives in Roodepoort on Friday, August 8.
This follows the brutal killings of Warrant Officer Vuyisile Sintwa and Sergeant Simon Masenya from the Johannesburg Trio Task Team, who were ambushed on August 8 while escorting awaiting-trial prisoner Jabulani Moyo from Roodepoort Magistrate's Court back to prison.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced two separate cash rewards of R150,000 each for information leading to the arrest of suspects responsible for the brutal killings of three police officers in two separate shootings over the weekend.

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola stated that the Hawks are leading the investigation, relying on witness testimonies and evidence collected at the filling station near Roodepoort Magistrate's Court where the shootings occurred.
He added that questions have been raised about whether the awaiting-trial prisoner was handcuffed at the time.
'It is standard procedure that all awaiting trial prisoners must be appropriately restrained and placed at the back of a van. On whether Moyo was handcuffed or not and why members were travelling in a sedan, all these questions are under investigation.'
On August 9, Sergeant Lawrence Mtshweni of Schoemansdal SAPS in Mpumalanga was fatally shot while responding to a burglary near Komatipoort. Police are currently searching for 10 suspects believed to be involved.
Masemola paid a visit to the families of the fallen officers to express his condolences and provide support.
He denounced the killings as a blatant assault on state authority and the rule of law.
Masemola disclosed that 27 police officers were killed by criminals in the last financial year, with six officers already losing their lives in the line of duty since April 1, 2025.
'These are not just numbers; they were mothers and fathers who have left families behind to fend for themselves. Most of them were breadwinners in their households, but most importantly, they were members who dedicated and laid down their lives in the line of duty by ensuring that all people living in South Africa are safe and protected from callous criminals,' he said.
Masemola also strongly urged all police officers across the country to be vigilant and not risk their lives while using the tools and resources provided to them.
'I am making this call again to all police officers in the country, do not die with the tools and resources that we have given you. The men and women in blue must act appropriately when circumstances allow them to act. Remember to always use force that is proportional to the threat. I plead with you, do not let your guard down, always be a step ahead of these criminals to ensure the safety and security of the people of this country,' he added.

KwaZulu-Natal police arrest over 12 000 suspects in July operations
KZN SAPS arrested 12,624 suspects for a range of serious offences during specialised operations and routine policing in July 2025, according to Colonel Robert Netshiunda, SAPS spokesperson. Of the total arrests, 3 741 suspects were detained for contact crimes. These included 216 arrests for murder and 201 for attempted murder. Police also removed 331 firearms and 16,178 rounds of ammunition of various calibres from circulation. In cases involving women and children, 193 suspected rapists were arrested, along with 50 for sexual assault, eight for attempted rape, and 17 for other sexual offences. Police also arrested 204 people for violating the Domestic Violence Act and four for child abuse. A total of 201 suspects were arrested for various robberies, including business and house robberies, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and theft of or from motor vehicles. Assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm accounted for 1,720 arrests, while a further 925 were for common assault. Road safety was a focus, with 519 motorists arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Drug-related crimes led to 2,108 arrests. Operations also targeted stock theft, resulting in 48 arrests and the recovery of 70 suspected stolen cattle and 77 goats. Police seized 610 dangerous weapons, including 536 knives and 36 machetes. 'These arrests and seizures demonstrate the SAPS's ongoing commitment to making our communities safer,' said Colonel Netshiunda. Agency sets record straight on SASSA Old-Age Grant deductions
Numerous complaints about unauthorised SASSA Old-Age Grant deductions has the agency reaching out to beneficiaries. SASSA CEO Themba Matlou said this past week that the agency has no authority to make any SASSA Old-Age Grant deductions. So, why has there been such a spate of this occurring in the last month? Image: File By way of clarification, the South African Social Security Agency assures clients that it is not allowed to make deductions without notifying the recipient beforehand and receiving consent. If you have not received your full grant amount for the month of August, you must contact SASSA immediately to rectify the situation. Recently, several SASSA beneficiaries have come forward alleging that their grants are arriving with R165 already deducted, reports The Citizen . Due to the sheer number of complaints, the concern is that this has moved beyond a few isolated incidents and there are nefarious actors at play. You should never have any money deducted from your SASSA payment without giving consent beforehand. Image: File 'I can tell you outright that we are not allowed to make SASSA Old-Age Grant deductions from a beneficiary without their consent. That is the regulation. Your money is your money. Once we give you the money, we have no control over that,' clarified Matlou. 'However, of course, there will be these unscrupulous chance-takers who will try to take advantage of SASSA grant recipients. A possible reason could be funeral policies being deducted from immediately after the SASSA Grant payment. But the agency does not offer any such policy. And the agency does not allow anyone to advertise policies using its branding,' Matlou explained. Anyone using the SASSA branding in a misleading manner will be investigated in court.
