TNIE impact: Four FIRs filed in child marriage, teenage pregnancy case in Krishanagiri
On June 18, TNIE carried a story — 'Bride and Prejudice: Aadhaar fudged to mask child marriages in K'giri'. The dates of birth on the Aadhaar cards of six child marriage victims were changed by their relatives to evade arrest in the past six months in Kelamangalam block.
Currently, all four victims are pregnant. The social welfare department is inquiring with a 15-year-old child marriage victim near Denkanikottai, and one near Rayakottai is still untraceable.
Earlier, the Kelamangalam Block Rural Welfare Officer and Block Extension Officer of Kelamangalam filed four complaints at Rayakottai, Denkanikottai and Kelamangalam police stations on Saturday. The police booked cases under sections 5(i), 5(j)(ii), read with 6(1) of the Pocso Act, and section 9 read with 10 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.
Apart from this, Kelamangalam Block Medical Officer Dr C Rajesh Kumar filed a complaint at Rayakottai, Kelamangalam, and Denkanikottai police stations for Aadhaar tampering. Based on this, two persons were arrested in Rayakottai and Denkanikottai.
Krishnagiri District Social Welfare Officer R Sakthi Subashini told TNIE, "Police will inquire with the child marriage accused and will inquire at three temples where the marriages took place in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts."

Teen held for sexually assaulting, murdering 5-year-old boy in Hyderabad
Last Updated: Hyderabad, Aug 17 (PTI) A teenager has been apprehended for allegedly sexually assaulting and murdering a five-year-old boy, police said on Sunday. The accused, a worker of a timber depot, lured the victim by offering to buy him biscuits on August 12 and took him to an isolated place near his house and 'sexually assaulted" and later 'strangled" him to death, they said. As the boy was missing after he went to play near his house, his father lodged a complaint at Uppal Police Station, who registered a case. During the course of investigation, police analysed the CCTV footage in the surrounding areas and found the boy being 'taken" away by a person. The suspect was taken into custody on August 15, police officials said. During questioning, he confessed to the assault and said, fearing that the boy may reveal about the incident he 'murdered" him. The boy's body was found in the bushes near his house. A police official said the accused was sent to a state-run hospital for age determination test and the report is awaited. Based on the report they would proceed, he said. A case under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and BNS was registered. The first case against him is in Ghaziabad, where he has been accused of sexual exploitation under the pretext of marriage. The Allahabad High Court has given him protection from arrest in this case. However, in Jaipur, another FIR has been filed under the POCSO Act and BNS, as the victim was a minor when the alleged incidents began. The Rajasthan High Court has not given him protection in this case, and his next hearing is on August 22. She said he called her to a hotel during an IPL match in Jaipur on the pretext of providing cricketing advice, and then assaulted her. He also allegedly made false promises about her cricket career. Dayal could be sentenced to a minimum jail term of 10 years if found guilty. 3 Assamese men assaulted for entering Nagaland ‘without permit'
Amid tensions on Assam-Nagaland border following large-scale eviction drives in Assam's Golaghat district, three men from Assam who had entered Nagaland for a picnic on August 15 were assaulted by three Nagaland locals who sought to check their permits and identities. According to a police officer from Golaghat, nine men from Merapani – which is part of the Disturbed Area Belt, land disputed between Assam and Nagaland – had gone for a picnic on Friday to a spot located around 1.5 km within the adjacent Wokha district in Nagaland. 'Since the area is only about 2-3 km from each of their homes, they must not have thought much about it. But when they were packing up to leave around 5.30 pm, three Naga locals who were carrying airguns confronted them. They asked to see Inner Line Permits and Aadhaar cards of the group. On not finding the papers with them, they (Naga locals) hit two of the group members with the butt of their airguns and fired in the air. A pellet from the airgun hit one of the (Assamese) men, Prakash Basumatary,' said the police officer. He said the matter was informed to the Nagaland police, after which the three accused were apprehended by Wokha police around 11 pm. 'After the evictions, people in Nagaland have been particular about checking identification and permits of people entering from Assam,' said the officer. In the past month, the Assam government conducted a massive eviction drive in the Rengma Reserve Forest in Uriamghat in Golaghat district, a region which borders Nagaland. Over 2500 families, mostly Bengali-origin Muslims, living in the area were affected. Ahead of this eviction drive, the Nagaland government directed 'heightened vigilance' along the state border with Assam amid 'apprehensions' that the displaced people may try to enter Nagaland. Following this, police, district administrations and civil society organisations swung into action to conduct checks on movement near entry points from Assam.
