Hike for inclusion unites community
IN celebration of Autism Awareness Month, the Be The Best Version of Yourself (BTBVOY) Foundation hosted its annual Hike for Inclusion on Saturday, April 26, at the Paradise Valley Nature Reserve which brought together families, youth, and purpose-driven individuals for a powerful day of connection, awareness, and fundraising.

The event marked the official start of BTBVOY's 2026 Mount Kilimanjaro fundraising campaign, part of a bi-annual tradition that supports underrepresented causes. Previous climbs in 2022 and 2024 highlighted deaf awareness, cancer, mental health, and youth empowerment. This upcoming climb shifts its focus towards Autism Awareness, support for the blind, and the expansion of the Youth Skills Village movement.
Participants enjoyed a guided 5km hike, inclusive children's activities, a joyful Easter egg hunt, and delicious food and refreshments all set against the natural beauty of Paradise Valley. The event featured autism-inclusive activities designed to ensure children of all abilities could participate.
'This is more than a symbolic event. It creates real impact, helps fund real solutions, and builds real bridges toward inclusion,' said campaign manager Arlene Cairncross.
At the heart of BTBVOY's mission is a powerful belief that everyone deserves the chance to be the best version of themselves, a vision inspired by the personal journey of founder Nolan Pillay, a global award-winning mindset specialist who transformed hardship into healing and hope.

'While Nolan continues to lead the charge toward our 2026 Kilimanjaro climb and prepares to release his upcoming book, this movement is growing beyond just one person. It's a community of changemakers, allies, and young leaders working toward lasting inclusion,' added Cairncross.

Presley Chweneyagae: Mourners gathered at Mmabatho like they did in 2018 for HHP

Picture: Presley Oageng Chweneyagae/Facebook In his welcome note at the memorial service of actor Presley Chweneyagae, the mayor of Mahikeng, Tshepiso Mphehlo, reflected on the pinnacle of the province's art scene when Tsosti was released. 'That period was a pinnacle period for the arts and culture in Mahikeng,' shared Mphehlo. The memorial service is being held at the Mmabatho Convention Centre for the late 40-year-old actor, who passed away a week ago. This is the first of two memorial services expected this week. The other service will be held at Pretoria's State Theatre on Thursday for his friends and industry colleagues who are based in Gauteng. We knew through their rise to stardom that we too will be called for greatness,' said the mayor, mentioning other artists from the province like Mo Molemi, among others. Referring to Chweneyagae by his local nickname, Tobetsa, Makapan said the late actor was a people's person. 'Tobetsa was able to gather people. Tobetsa was a people's person. There are many people who wanted to get this opportunity to speak about their experience with Tobetsa, but did not have the opportunity to come here. 'It's not that you were undermined [or] ignored…it's just that the programme was set the way it was. I wasn't even supposed to be standing here, the person who was meant to stand here was unable to attend,' said Makapan. The actor, whom many viewers will remember as Thomas on Generations, said he spent most of his time with Chweneyagae in Pretoria, where they first met after being introduced by a mutual friend. 'Even through the pain we're feeling right now, we all know he made us laugh. He was a people's person who was able to be, [to] chill with us. He didn't care to chill at a five-star place, even if we chilled under the tree, he never judged people.' Makapan said he went to Chweneyagae's house after the news broke of his passing, and that the deceased's wife said he should be celebrated instead of mourned. WarmFees collects 667 blankets in the West
WarmFees made its debut in the West Rand recently when it hosted an event that brought together hundreds of people collecting blankets for the homeless and animal shelters through their Winter Knights project. The event, held at Berlin Bear, featured live music and surprise performances that brought the community together in a spirit of celebration and excitement. Organised by Round Table North Ridge 117 in partnership with Berlin Bear, and supported by Jacaranda FM, WarmFees collected an impressive total of 667 blankets, which will be donated to those in need. 'Words cannot describe how grateful we are for the amount of love and support we received at this amazing event,' expresses the chairperson of Round Table 117, Wynand Warren. Entry to the event was free, and people had to bring blankets, and those who couldn't were allowed to purchase one at the venue. Popular Jacaranda FM presenter and singer Martin Bester entertained the crowd. There was a surprise performance by Prime Circle and a surprise song by none other than The Parlotones, which made the night a special one to remember for the people. 'We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in our event on Saturday,' says Wynand. He also went on to thank the event organisers and people who made the event a heartwarming and successful one.
