Ben-Gvir, who openly prayed at the compound in defiance of long-standing agreements, was condemned by Palestinian leaders, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia
Three Palestinian guards at Al-Aqsa Mosque were arrested by Israeli police on Sunday after far-right Israeli minister Itamar Ben-Gvir entered the holy site with thousands of settlers.
According to the Ministry of Islamic Endowments, the detained guards were Muhammad Teena, Muhammad Badran, and Ahmad Abu Aliya, Al Jazeera reported.
Earlier in the day, Ben-Gvir, Israel's National Security Minister, visited the compound in occupied East Jerusalem on the Jewish day of mourning, Tisha B'Av. He was accompanied by more than 1,000 Israeli settlers, including members of the ultra-nationalist Temple Mount group.
Reports suggest the number of visitors may have reached 3,000. Although the visit occurred during designated hours, Jewish prayer at the site remains prohibited under long-standing agreements known as the status quo.
Despite this, Ben-Gvir openly prayed at the compound, becoming the first government minister to do so publicly. His actions drew swift condemnation from Palestinian leaders, as well as from Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesperson for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, described Ben-Gvir's visit as dangerous and provocative. Jordan's Foreign Ministry also condemned the incursion, urging Israel to avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
During his visit, Ben-Gvir called for Israel to annex the Gaza Strip and encourage Palestinians to leave. 'This is the only way that we will return the hostages and win the war," he said.
His remarks came shortly after Hamas released distressing videos of hostages held in tunnels, including one showing 24-year-old Evyatar David in poor health. Ben-Gvir condemned the footage and used it to justify his controversial stance.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said after the visit that Israel's policy of maintaining the status quo at the compound 'has not changed and will not change."

Huda Kattan's controversial TikTok video alleging Israel's involvement in historical atrocities was removed for violating community guidelines. (AP) In a video shared with her over 11 million TikTok followers, Kattan, the creator and spokesperson for the billion-dollar company Huda Beauty, accused Israel of masterminding the September 11 terrorist attacks, World War I, World War II, and the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel. Notably, both World Wars I (1914–1918) and II (1939–1945) took place prior to the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. 'All of the conspiracy theories coming out and a lot of evidence behind them — that Israel has been behind World War I, World War II, September 11, October 7 — they allowed all of this stuff to happen. Is this crazy?' Kattan stated on camera. 'Like, I had a feeling — I was like, 'Are they behind every world war?' Yes.' Also Read: Stephen A. Rivers Swell, Patna Double Deck Flyover Worth Rs 422 Cr Sinks As Rains Batter Bihar

Last Updated: Patna's double-deck flyover, inaugurated by the CM in June, has sunk after heavy rainfall. Built for Rs 422 crore, flooding has disrupted daily life and raised structural concerns. A recent incident has raised concerns about the structural integrity of Patna's double-deck flyover, which was inaugurated in June this year. Part of the double-deck flyover sinks after incessant rainfall in the city. The flyover was built for Rs 422 crore and was inaugurated by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. A video of the flyover built to ease traffic congestion on Ashok Rajpath, connecting Kargil Chowk near Gandhi Maidan to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) and Science College, was shared by the news agency ANI. Patna has suffered heavy rainfall over the past few days, causing severe flooding across major areas, including Kankarbagh, Rajendra Nagar, Exhibition Road and Gandhi Maidan. Waterlogging has severely impacted daily life, causing widespread disruptions, with roads, homes, hospitals, and schools getting flooded, accompanied by sewage overflow, traffic jams, and a breakdown of local drainage systems. The relentless rains have overwhelmed poor drainage systems, leading to disruptions in daily life and prompting worry over affected infrastructure, including the flyover. The double-deck flyover consists of two levels. The upper deck is 2,175.5 metres long and carries traffic from Gandhi Maidan to Science College. The lower deck is 1,449.3 metres long and helps vehicles move from Patna College to Gandhi Maidan, near BN College. Both decks, each 8.5 metres wide, connect to PMCH and are meant to reduce traffic jams in the city. According to the officials, Ashok Rajpath will soon have four levels—two flyover tiers, a ground-level service road, and the upcoming metro underground. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Trump Aide Targets India, Alleges It Is Fueling Russia's War On Ukraine: 'Tied With China'

Stephen Miller's comments marked one of the strongest criticisms of India from the Trump camp so far A senior aide to US President Donald Trump has accused India of helping to fund Russia's war in Ukraine by continuing to buy oil from Moscow. The remarks were made as Trump stepped up pressure on New Delhi to halt its energy trade with Russia. Speaking on Fox News ' Sunday Morning Futures, Trump's deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller said, 'What he (Trump) said very clearly is that it is not acceptable for India to continue financing this war by purchasing the oil from Russia." Miller went on to say that 'people will be shocked to learn that India is basically tied with China in purchasing Russian oil. That's an astonishing fact." His comments marked one of the strongest criticisms of India from the Trump camp so far. India, a key US partner in the Indo-Pacific region, has maintained strong energy ties with Russia despite the ongoing war in Ukraine and growing Western sanctions against Moscow. According to Indian officials quoted by Reuters on Saturday, New Delhi intends to keep buying Russian oil, arguing it serves the country's energy security needs. As part of its tougher stance, the Trump administration imposed a 25% tariff on Indian products last Friday, citing India's continued purchases of Russian energy and military equipment. Trump has also threatened to raise tariffs up to 100% on imports from any country that continues buying Russian oil unless a major peace deal is reached. Despite the comments, Miller also noted that Trump maintains what he called a 'tremendous" relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
