Justin Tafa vs. Tallison Teixeira prediction, pick, start time for UFC 312
Last event: 2-3
UFC main cards, 2024: 8-8
Justin Tafa vs. Tallison Teixeira UFC 312 preview
Tafa (7-4 MMA, 4-4 UFC) will look to return to the win column following a unanimous decision loss to Karl Williams last March. Prior to that defeat, Tafa ripped through stoppages of Harry Hunsucker, Parker Porter and Austin Lane. … Teixeira (7-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) debuts in a big spot on a pay-per-view main card. The undefeated 25-year-old heavyweight stopped Arthur Lopes in his September Dana White's Contender Series appearance to earn a UFC contract.
Justin Tafa vs. Tallison Teixeira UFC 312 expert pick, prediction
Despite having fights like Jack Jenkins vs. Gabriel Santos stuck on the prelims, the UFC matchmakers can't help themselves when it comes to force-feeding us low-level heavyweights on main cards, but I digress.
In the fighters' defense, both Tafa and Teixeira are at least action-oriented heavyweights – so hopefully we can avoid any slop fests.
Teixeira is one of the few Stefan Struve-esque heavyweights who will actually fight long, but the Brazilian's defense leaves a lot to be desired.
Aside from Teixeira's head being naturally strung up like a tetherball due to his height, the 25-year-old prospect has a tendency to rush follow fleeing foes and rush off of his successes.
For that reason, I'll pick Tafa to score the knockout with a counter right hook in Round 1.
Justin Tafa vs. Tallison Teixeira UFC 312 odds
The oddsmaker and the public are slightly favoring the Brazilian fighter, listing Teixeira -142 and Tafa +116 via FanDuel.
Justin Tafa vs. Tallison Teixeira UFC 312 start time, how to watch

Max Holloway explains difference entering UFC 318 now fully committed to lightweight
Max Holloway feeling like a true lightweight ahead of UFC 318. NEW ORLEANS – Max Holloway's return to the lightweight division looks to be a lot different than times prior. Holloway (26-8 MMA, 22-8 UFC), a former UFC featherweight champion, who's moved up and fought at lightweight twice before, is having his third bout at 155 pounds this Saturday, taking on Dustin Poirier (30-9 MMA, 22-8 UFC) in the main event of UFC 318 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) – which takes place Saturday at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. Unlike before, Holloway's move to lightweight includes no potential return to 145 pounds, changing the situation completely. "Oh yeah, for sure, I feel the difference," Holloway said at the UFC 318 media day on Wednesday. "For my last fight (at featherweight), you guys could see my cheekbones way more, I kind of looked like a skeleton, so I'm just glad here. You guys see the difference. People are talking about it about how big I am, how wide I am. It just feels good. I'm a Polynesian, a Hawaiian-Polynesian. I'm glad I get to show that Polynesian, big wrist, big ankles kind of thing." Not planning on making 145 pounds ever again, Holloway has better adapted his frame to lightweight this time around. This change has freed him up, as he can now do things he couldn't do before. "Just being able to focus on this camp and not even teeter tottering on the chance of, 'Oh, we might go back down,' we can do certain things, we can supplement in certain ways," Holloway said. "At the end of the day, these 155-pound camps are the best. I feel good. I feel great. I get to eat a lot more during camp. There were times at 145 where I was like, 'Oh, I want to eat' and then I jump on the scale, and I'm like 'Oh, sh*t. I can't do it,' so these 155 camps are way more enjoyable." Holloway is coming off a KO loss to Ilia Topuria in a featherweight title fight last October. Some question Holloway's chances of getting himself into another title fight, given Topuria has also moved up to lightweight and is now the champion after stopping Charles Oliveira for the vacant belt. "Blessed" disagrees with those skeptics, and think a good win over Poirier will put him back in the mix. "If I go out there and have a (UFC) 300 moment, I'm right there for a title shot," Holloway said. "And if it's not for a title shot, I'm right there for a No. 1 contender shot, whoever it may be. First things first. I see the media, I see people talking, I see people chirping."

Brendan Allen tells Marvin Vettori to 'grow up,' recalls casino brawl ahead of UFC 318
Brendan Allen shares his side of the story. NEW ORLEANS – Brendan Allen and Marvin Vettori are set to run things back this Saturday, although officially it will be the first time they meet. The two UFC middleweight contenders clash on the preliminary card of UFC 318 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+), which takes place at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. The two men have plenty of history – a failed booking in April 2024 and a brawl after a PFL event last August. Speaking to reporters just days away from their bad-blood bout, Allen (24-7 MMA, 12-4 UFC) recalled his viral fight with Vettori (19-7-1 MMA, 9-6-1 UFC) on the casino floor of the Hard Rock in Hollywood, Fla. "Basically I was there with my wife and some friends and teammates. We were supporting teammates for PFL, and it was time to go," Allen said on Wednesday at UFC 318 media day. "I was leaving, and I heard people the whole night say he was looking for me, and my response was always, 'I'm not hard to find. I'm pretty easy to find.'" Allen exited the Hard Rock Live venue and into the hotel's casino, and that's when he first saw Vettori, who was getting aggressive with UFC light heavyweight Tuco Tokkos – Allen's friend and teammate. "On the way out of the door of the arena and into the Hard Rock (casino), I look and my friend Tucco is getting swung on by Marvin," Allen said. "At first he's telling him, like you could see him do this (putting up his hands) like, 'Calm down, chill. We're not doing that.'" According to Allen, one of his teammates pushed back Vettori, and that's when Allen rushed his rival. However, there were plenty of people present, and he was held back before he could get to Vettori "He ends up somehow creeping around the crowd and coming back behind me, and obviously there's 40, 50 people, and I lose track of him, and people are grabbing me," Allen said. "Lucky, he goes to swing around me and my boy Tuco smacks his hand as he's swinging at me, and my boy Tuco ends up hitting me because of the force and everything." Allen claims Vettori circled back around for a second shot, and that's when the most viral angle of the brawl began. In the video, you could see UFC lightweight Michael Johnson, who also competes at UFC 318, get the crowd to make space, setting up an impromptu arena for Allen and Vettori, who were left standing across each other. "He's looking at me dead in my eyes, as you can see from the camera angles," Allen explained. "... He's looking at me in my eyes, he puts his hands up, and what do you do? You walk away, and you're a b*tch, or you walk over there and hit him? I walked over there and hit him." Allen is not looking to extend his beef with Vettori beyond Saturday. He'd be more than willing to squash their differences as he sees the feud as childish. "It's like grow up, man," Allen said. "I'm almost 30 years old, and I have all those kids over there. I'm not trying to act stupid, and that was the whole point. Apparently he got mad at me because I said one of his fights was sh*t. It was like, 'Man, it takes two to fight. So if I called your fight sh*t, it's both of you guys. It's not just one.' I've had sh*t fights. If I'm saying it to me as a fighter, imagine how many other people you're going to hear it from. If that's what you got mad at, alright, bro."

Atletico Madrid hit with blow as Inter agree terms with Nigeria forward
Atletico Madrid's strong summer recruitment drive continued today with the announcement of one of their top targets Johnny Cardoso, who has signed a five-year deal with the club. However they are facing more difficulty to bring in another of their targets this summer. So far Los Colchoneros have been successful with almost all of their pursuits, with Tottenham Hotspur's Cristian Romero appearing to be the one that may elude them. Yet they must up the ante if they are to get a deal done for Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman. Atletico Madrid interest in Ademola Lookman Image viaLookman is available this summer, after falling out with manager Gian Piero Gasperini. Barcelona also have an interest in Lookman, but the finances could price them out of a move. They have set a €50m price tag for the Nigeria international though, and Los Colchoneros are keen to see that fee come down before making a move. Despite good relations with Atalanta, Los Rojiblancos are not keen to spend quite so much, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. They also require further exits before that becomes a possibility, with Samuel Lino's name circled in red. The Brazilian saw his role reduced last season, and he has been offered out to Premier League clubs in hope of a lucrative deal. Inter move in on Lookman Atletico are facing stiff competition for Lookman though. Inter have made Lookman their top of their priority list for the forward line, as per Gianluca di Marzio. They say that terms have been agreed with Lookman after talks with his camp, and their plan is to submit a €40m offer in the near future. Lookman price unlikely to come down? If Atalanta do stick to their guns on the asking price, then it may prove too expensive for Atletico. Equally, if they do not, then Inter look as if they will have the chance to move quickly for him, as Los Rojiblancos await movement for Lino. If they are to sign the 2024 African Player of the Year, it seems that they may have to speed up the process or convince the player that he wants a move to the Metropolitano first and foremost.
