5-member drug gang busted; two Nigerians among arrested
HYDERABAD: The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB), in coordination with the Golconda police, arrested two Nigerian nationals and three Indian drug peddlers on Friday. Officials seized 20 grams of cocaine, 45 grams of MDMA, 20 grams of ecstasy pills, and `40,000 in cash from them.
Police said Okoro Cosmos Ramsey, a Nigerian national, is involved in three NDPS cases in Hyderabad. Lakshmipathi is involved in eight cases across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Romi Bharat Kalyan in three cases in Hyderabad and Goa, Jafar Khan in two cases, and Chimezie Boniface Adikea in two NDPS cases.
All five accused were previously lodged in Chanchalguda jail in the same barrack, where they became friends and exchanged phone numbers.
After their release, Ramsey moved to Golconda, where Adikea later joined him. The duo began procuring cocaine and MDMA from a Mumbai-based supplier named James, and sold it to Lakshmipathi and other peddlers.
Lakshmipathi frequently travels to Goa and Bengaluru with a friend, where he established contacts with several drug suppliers. He reportedly procured cocaine, MDMA and OG weed from persons, including Jack, Romi Bharat Kalyan, Mahesh, Susheel and Abdul Jafar Khan alias Sharukh. Jafar Khan also helped him procure MDMA from a person named Haleem in Bengaluru. Police said the five-member gang has been supplying drugs to more than 25 persons in Hyderabad.

Subsequently, the drugs licensing-cum-controlling authority in the state cancelled the licence of the petitioner by an order dated March 13, 2023. Quashing the order, the court observed, 'I am surprised to see that Indian authorities are trying to validate their proceedings conducted under the Indian law on the basis of judgment passed by the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan'. Indian laws relating to drugs are exhaustive and self-sufficient code which does not require any validation of the judgement passed by a foreign court, the high court order said. The court added that the premises of the petitioner's factory has been inspected more than once and the samples collected from the factory has been examined by the government analyst, as per provisions. Authorities concerned have delved deep 'to examine the manufacturing process of the drugs at the factory premises of the petitioner and the quality of drug as well as legal requirement enunciated under the Act 1945 and Rules 1945,' it said. 'There is nothing convincing, as to what special the state and central authorities have found in the judgement passed by the foreign courts intending to validate their official duties performed under the Indian law. 'Nothing special has been demonstrated before this court in the orders passed by different courts of Republic of Uzbekistan except certain observations with regard to the quality of drugs, which have been found unfit for use and the said observation was subsequently modified to certain extent,' the judge said. 'The order impugned is illegal, unwarranted under law and without jurisdiction. Existence of such order would prejudice to the right and interest of the petitioner and amounts to miscarriage of justice to him', the court added in its judgment dated May 19. New Delhi [India], June 14 (ANI): A Delhi court has discharged an Indian man wrongfully accused in connection with a murder in Australia's Redfern in 2003 after forensic tests confirmed it was a case of mistaken identity. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Pranav Joshi on June 13 exonerated Mohammed Basheeruddin, who had been arrested last month, after a report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) revealed that his fingerprints did not match those found at the crime scene in Australia. 'The fingerprints of the arrested individual do not match those of the original fugitive criminal,' the judge noted in court. 'In view of this, Mohammed Basheeruddin is discharged from the present proceedings.' The murder occurred on the night of June 29, 2003. The body of Shoukat Mohammed was found stuffed inside a sleeping bag placed in a wheelie bin on James Street, Redfern.
