Local faith based organizations put in the work with Pensacola's Habitat for Humanity

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — With a little bit of elbow grease, local faith based organizations are coming together to help build a home for Pensacola's Habitat for Humanity.

'God's blessed me so much in life, so it's nice to come out here and be able to bless others to be able to get in their dream home,' Redemption Church of Pensacola volunteer Christy Stargell said.
With every swing of a hammer and each nail placed in a two-by-four, a new home is starting to take shape on West Gonzalez Street in Pensacola.
'It's amazing,' Pensacola Habitat for Humanity Faith Relations Coordinator Monique Turner said. 'To get different faith based organizations to come out to build on a home, everyone gets the fellowship. They get to know different churches in the area, and they all know that they're doing something to give back.'
The volunteers put on a hard hat and help to make a difference in the community.
'I'm fortunate to own a home, and it's work, but it's also a great joy and relief, so I'm just glad to help someone else experience that,' Taurai Gweshe, a volunteer with Mt. Zion Bible Church, said.
Pensacola Habitat for Humanity has built over 1,650 homes in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties, providing affordable home ownership at a time when Pensacola is facing an affordable housing crisis.

'Being able to get people that wouldn't be able to have a home on their own, to help them get into homes to be able to raise their families and make our community a better place,' Stargell said.
