EFF accused of hypocrisy after Kleinfontein march

The EFF marched to the Afrikaner-only settlement in Kleinfontein on Friday demanding that its 'segregation' policies be abolished.
EFF Gauteng chairperson Nkululeko Dunga said the party was against an area only wanting one race to live there.
'We can never allow an area to be a white-only area, where black people are only subjected to sweat and slavery but cannot reside in that area. There is no single area in South Africa or even the City of Tshwane that is a black-only area,' he said.
'Kleinfontein must fall, it must cease to exist,' he said.

EFF accused of political theatrics
However, the Freedom Front Plus (FF+) on Saturday said the EFF's march to Kleinfontein 'was nothing but political theatrics'.
It accused the EFF of trying to turn attention away from the poor performance of the Tshwane government. The EFF is in a coalition with the ANC and ActionSA in Tshwane. Other parties in the coalition government are the ACDP, AIC, DOP, PA, PAC, ATM and GOOD.
FF+ also accused the EFF of having a 'dangerously inflammatory and destructive culture'.
It said a video of the EFF's MMC for Environmental Affairs in Tshwane, Obakeng Ramabodu, vandalising an AfriForum sign at Kleinfontein demonstrates this.

EFF hypocrisy over Kleinfontein?
The FF+ further said it was hypocritical of the red berets to accuse Kleinfontein residents of illegally occupying the land.
'The EFF, as a governing coalition partner in the Tshwane Metro, deliberately chose to target Kleinfontein, an Afrikaner cultural community, but tolerates over 500 illegal informal settlements in the metro and approximately 20 illegal developments functioning within the metro that do not meet formalisation requirements or pay taxes,' said Jaco Mulder, the party's provincial leader in Gauteng.
'In addition, the metro does not provide any services to the Kleinfontein community.'

uMhlathuze council meeting comes to abrupt end amid chaos
Chaos erupted during the City of uMhlathuze council sitting on Thursday afternoon shortly after the media was asked to leave the public gallery area. It is believed the meeting had just begun when shouting and screaming overpowered the voice of Speaker Thobias Gumede. The meeting came to a close minutes later, although the exact cause of the disruption is unclear at this stage. EFF members chanted their way through the city premises, celebrating the victory of their three replacement PR councillors being elected to the City of uMhlathuze. This after the Independent Electoral Commission confirmed the three members' election on 7 July. The newly-elected councillors replace the three who were expelled from the party earlier this year. Tshwane threatens to demolish whites-only settlement in Kleinfontein, Pretoria
JOHANNESBURG - Leaders of the whites-only Afrikaner settlement Kleinfontein, east of Pretoria, said they're 'disappointed' by the City of Tshwane municipality's threat to demolish their community. The municipality served the settlement with a court notice, compelling it to file a new spatial planning and land use management application to supplement an outdated one filed in 2013. Kleinfontein is one of 17 settlements identified by the capital as illegal and improperly zoned for township establishments. ALSO READ: Tshwane denies unfairly targeting Kleinfontein with hiking its rates bill The Kleinfontein community spokesperson, Dannie de Beer, said a new application will be expensive 'Naturally, Kleinfontein is disappointed with the court action from Tshwane, instead of engaging with the community in talks and sitting around the table, Tshwane has decided not only to take the community to court, but also threaten them with demolition. As far as we know, we are the only community, settlement that is being threatened by Tshwane this way. We take exception to it.'

Maphwanya's Iran fiasco: EFF takes fresh shots at Trump
South Africa still insists that the US is an important trade partner despite tensions between the two countries. The EFF says South Africa does not owe the US any explanation for the comments made by SANDF chief General Rudzani Maphwanya during his visit to Iran. This comes after reports that the White House has reached out to the government of South Africa, demanding an explanation for controversial remarks Maphwanya made, including the suggestion that Tehran and Pretoria have common goals and should work together. Maphawanya also allegedly slammed Israel for its alleged genocide against the people of Gaza. Is South Africa accountable to the US? However, EFF spokesperson Sinawo Thambo said the government should stand firm and not give in to the demands of the US. 'South Africa must not succumb to bullying and intimidation from the United States. 'We must continue to engage freely with Iran and all other nations we choose to, without reducing our foreign policy to the emotions of Donald Trump or any other American president,' he said. Should Maphwanya be punished for his remarks? Despite the potential risk of worsening relations between Pretoria and the Trump administration, Thambo said Maphwanya should be unapologetic for his comments. 'General Rudzani Maphwanya, the Chief of SANDF, must firmly reject any attempts by politicians to control our Army. 'His primary constitutional responsibility is to safeguard the people of South Africa, not to appease political agendas,' he said. Why was Ramaphosa not in Iran? He said Maphwanya is being thrown under the bus by the Presidency. 'It is now clear why President Cyril Ramaphosa distanced himself from this visit, presenting it as if the Chief of the SANDF had gone rogue. 'In reality, he sought to downplay the engagement, anticipating America's displeasure and bending once more to the need to appease Donald Trump.' EFF asserts SA's independence Thambo said South Africa is an independent country and should be treated as such. 'South Africa is an independent nation and we reserve the right to pursue trade, economic, diplomatic, and military relations with whomever we deem fit, including Iran.' He belives South Africa and Iran should have relations since they are both Brics countries. 'The enemies of the United States do not automatically constitute themselves as the enemies of South Africa, nor will our engagements be dictated by their shifting hostilities,' he said. SACP comes to Maphwanaya's defence The South African Communist Party (SACP) also recently pledged their support for Maphwanya. The party said Maphwanya had only represented the government's position on the war in the Middle East. 'The SANDF chief's comments in Iran regarding political and policy questions reportedly included South Africa's adopted and correctly articulated policy positions on Palestine. 'This reflects South Africa's international relations and co-operation policy, including solidarity,' the party said. But the Presidency said Maphawanya's comments are 'ill-advised,' 'unfortunate', and 'unhelpful.' ALSO READ: SANDF chief Maphwanya submits report on controversial Iran trip How did we get to this point? This is the second time that the US has demanded an explanation from South Africa about the country's 'controversial' policies. The Trump administration previously accused the country of a genocide against white people in South Africa. This prompted Ramaphosa to urgently compile a team and meet with Trump to dispel the untruths about human rights violations in the country. Last week, Deputy President Paul Mashatile announced that another team would be sent to the US for trade talks with the Trump administration. This comes after Trump slapped Pretoria with a 30% tariff fee on South African exports. NOW READ: Ramaphosa briefed by Putin on his meeting with Donald Trump
