Who's banned from Mecca? 6-month jail sentence for violators

As the Hajj season of 2025 approaches, the relevant authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have issued regulations for this year's pilgrimage, revealing the categories of individuals prohibited from entering Mecca, as well as the categories exempt from Saudi Arabia's decision.
As part of ongoing preparations for the Hajj season '2025 AD – 1446 AH,' the relevant authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have issued a set of regulatory controls regarding the Hajj season 2025.
This aligns with the directives of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration to the consular sector of the ministry and the Consulate General of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Jeddah to raise the level of preparedness for this year's Hajj season.
The aim is to ensure the safety of the pilgrims to the Sacred House of God and enable them to perform the Hajj rituals with security, ease, and peace of mind.
The procedures and regulatory controls for the entry and stay of Egyptian citizens in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the Hajj season, particularly in Mecca, include the following:
Prohibition of Entry to Mecca
All categories are prohibited from entering Mecca specifically, starting from today, April 23, 2025 (corresponding to Shawwal 25, 1446 AH), until June 11, 2025 (corresponding to Dhu al-Hijjah 15, 1446 AH), including residents of the Kingdom, with the exception of only three categories: (Those holding an official Hajj permit – Residents holding residency permits issued from Mecca only – Workers inside Mecca with a special permit).
Umrah Visa Holders
This category is prohibited from entering the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from any port or airport starting from April 13th (corresponding to Shawwal 15th). Those who entered with this visa before this date are required to leave Mecca and the Kingdom before April 29th (Dhu al-Qadah 1st).
Valid Family Visit Visa Holders
They are allowed to enter the Kingdom, and there are no specific restrictions on them except for the ban on entering Mecca during the period from April 23rd to June 11th, 2025.
Tourist Visas (Port Visas)
These are obtained only at Saudi ports by holders of Schengen and United States visas. No decisions have been issued to prevent their entry into the Kingdom. However, this type of visa does not allow its holder to enter Mecca during the ban period from April 23rd to June 11th, 2025. Attempting to enter Mecca from anywhere within the Kingdom will subject the holder to accountability and deportation.
Transit Visas
This type of visa was only available on Saudi airlines (Saudi Arabian Airlines – flynas – flyadeal). No official decision has been issued to prohibit them. Holders of transit visas can enter from any port or airport in the Kingdom except King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, with the necessity of adhering to the controls and requirements specific to this type of visa, which include adhering to the visa duration (a maximum of 96 hours from the moment of entry into the Kingdom) and the necessity for the traveler to complete their journey and continue to their final destination (a third country).
Saudi authorities have also issued a decision imposing fines on Umrah visa holders who fail to leave the Kingdom after April 29, 2025.
The decision stipulates a fine of 50,000 Saudi Riyals for any arriving pilgrim who overstays their visa, imprisonment for up to 6 months, and deportation to their home country.
Additionally, a fine of 100,000 Saudi Riyals has been announced for tourism companies affiliated with the overstaying pilgrim if they fail to report the overstay. These fines will be multiplied for a single company based on the number of overstaying pilgrims affiliated with it.

Iran's FM prays at Al-Hussein Mosque, dines at traditional restaurant in Cairo - Foreign Affairs

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited key landmarks in Cairo and met with prominent Egyptian figures during a trip to Egypt on Monday. In a post on the X platform Tuesday morning, Minister Araghchi said he performing Maghrib and Isha prayers at Cairo's historic Al-Hussein Mosque. He later dined with prominent Egyptian figures at the iconic Naguib Mahfouz restaurant in Khan El Khalili– a venue that hosted President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron during the latter's visit in April. Among the prominent figures Araghchi dined with were former Egyptian foreign ministers Amr Moussa, Nabil Fahmy, and Mohamed El-Orabi. The top Iranian diplomat described the dinner conversation as 'very productive.' Earlier on Monday, Araghchi also met with President El-Sisi, where they discussed bilateral and regional issues, including the current regional conflict. He also held talks with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, where both ministers expressed a shared interest in strengthening ties. They agreed to enhance cooperation in key areas, including trade, tourism, and continued political dialogue. While formal diplomatic ties have yet to be fully restored, with ambassadors still not reappointed, Araghchi noted that close coordination between the two sides continues. He added that Iran is not pressing for a specific timeline, and will proceed at Egypt's pace, stating, 'When our brothers in Egypt are ready, we will be ready.' The Iranian foreign minister stated that 'After many years, Iranian and Egyptian diplomacy has entered a new phase.' — Seyed Abbas Araghchi (@araghchi) June 3, 2025 This marked Araghchi's second visit to Egypt since becoming foreign minister in August 2024. His first trip, in October, was the first by a high-ranking Iranian official to Cairo in over a decade. In recent years, ties between Egypt and Iran have notably improved following decades of tension rooted in Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution and Egypt's peace agreement with Israel the same year. Renewed diplomatic engagement in 2023—especially in the wake of the war in Gaza—led to a wave of senior-level talks, reflecting a mutual interest in restoring normalised relations. 'As two influential regional powers with ancient cultures and civilisations, Iran and Egypt share a joint responsibility for maintaining peace, stability, and calm in the region,' Araghchi added in his X post. Ali Abo Deshish - Ahmed Emam CAIRO – The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has announced the successful arrival of all Egyptian tourism pilgrims to the holy sites in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj rituals for the Islamic year 1446H. A total of 40,672 Egyptian tourism pilgrims have now reached the Kingdom, following a meticulously organized travel operation via both air and land routes. According to Samia Sami, Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Tourism Companies' Affairs, Head of the Egyptian Tourism Hajj Mission, and Chairperson of the Supreme Committee for Hajj and Umrah, the current season witnessed the operation of 421 flights transporting around 33,172 pilgrims under the economic and five-star packages. Additionally, 180 tourist buses carried 7,500 pilgrims via land routes, reflecting the diverse tourism Hajj programs designed to meet the varying needs of Egyptian citizens. Sami noted that the ministry's field committees, stationed in Mecca and Medina, closely monitored the arrival process and supervised the accommodation arrangements in accordance with approved contracts. These teams are also handling complaints and inquiries on the spot to ensure the highest levels of satisfaction and comfort for the pilgrims. She emphasized that the ministry, under the directives of Minister Sherif Fathy, places the safety and comfort of pilgrims as a top priority. Continuous coordination is being maintained with the Saudi authorities and all relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth pilgrimage experience and to deliver services that meet the expectations of Egyptian tourism pilgrims. These efforts are part of the Ministry's broader strategy to manage a highly organized and efficient Hajj season—one that showcases professionalism, discipline, and reinforces the tourism Hajj model as one of the most successful frameworks for facilitating pilgrimage for Egyptian citizens. It is worth noting that the final air pilgrimage flight of the season arrived in Saudi Arabia two days ago, carrying 116 tourism pilgrims, while the last land convoy arrived on Thursday, consisting of eight buses and 313 pilgrims. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks

How Hajj 2025 Became the Most Accessible Pilgrimage in History

From smart cooling roads to AI-guided apps, Saudi Arabia is transforming Hajj for millions of pilgrims this year. Jun 03, 2025 For Hajj 2025 (1446 AH), Saudi Arabia has rolled out a wave of upgrades aimed at easing the physical, logistical, and informational burdens of the pilgrimage. These initiatives span cooling technologies, smart infrastructure, AI tools, and multilingual guides—many of them focused specifically on improving access for elderly, disabled, and international pilgrims. Here's a look at the most important initiatives shaping this year's Hajj… Cooling Roads & Rubber Walkways to Ease the Trek One of the most physically demanding aspects of Hajj is the long-distance walking in extreme heat. This year, authorities have expanded heat-reducing smart asphalt by 82% in Arafat alone, lowering surface temperatures by up to 12°C. Meanwhile, rubberised walkways designed to reduce foot pain and fatigue have been increased by 33%, especially in Muzdalifah and Mina. Shade, Mist & Greenery in the Holy Sites To combat heat stress, new shaded rest zones spanning over 110,000 square metres have been added in Arafat, Mina, and Muzdalifah. These include misting fans, water stations, and over 10,000 newly planted trees, transforming major walking paths into cooler corridors. Smart Roads, AI Drones & Crowd Management Tech Artificial intelligence is being deployed to improve crowd flow and safety. AI-powered cameras, drones, and ground sensors are now in use to monitor real-time crowd densities. Smart roadways with embedded heat sensors also help direct foot traffic and maintain cooler surfaces. Saudia's 'Coolest Ihram' & Accessibility Services The national carrier unveiled a new cooling ihram designed to lower body temperature by ~2°C. It's moisture-wicking, UV-protective, and breathable. Saudia also expanded onboard accessibility services, including mobility aids and in-flight oxygen for elderly and disabled pilgrims. 28,000 Square Metres of Dedicated Rest Areas Rest has become a formal part of the infrastructure. A total of 28,000 square metres of shaded, cushioned rest zones are now available—especially in Muzdalifah, where pilgrims often sleep before returning to Mina. Supercharged Digital Ecosystem: Nusuk & Tawakkalna The Nusuk super-app was upgraded to include crowd alerts, digital permits, real-time directions, and multilingual guides. Simultaneously, the Tawakkalna app now allows digital display of official Hajj permits directly from a pilgrim's smartphone. Health Preparedness: From Kits to Air Ambulances A new multilingual Health Kit offers vaccine requirements, heatstroke prevention tips, and emergency contacts in eight languages. The Ministry of Health also deployed 11 air ambulances, 71 ERs, and three mobile hospitals, treating over 50,000 pilgrims and conducting 140 surgeries with no outbreaks. Smart Guides at the Prophet's Mosque In Madinah, an AI-powered 'Smart Enrichment Assistant' helps pilgrims locate prayers, lectures, and facilities inside the Prophet's Mosque. Content is available in multiple languages and adjusts based on your location inside the mosque. Efficient Luggage & Postal Logistics for Pilgrims Saudi Post (SPL Sabala) launched a two-month logistics window to assist pilgrims with baggage routing, Hajj souvenirs, and package forwarding—all using smart tracking and real-time delivery. Multilingual Ritual Guides On Demand For the first time, pilgrims can access a 'Smart Book of Hajj Rituals' in six languages, available via mosque digital libraries and on Saudia flights.
