Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited key landmarks in Cairo and met with prominent Egyptian figures during a trip to Egypt on Monday.
In a post on the X platform Tuesday morning, Minister Araghchi said he performing Maghrib and Isha prayers at Cairo's historic Al-Hussein Mosque.
He later dined with prominent Egyptian figures at the iconic Naguib Mahfouz restaurant in Khan El Khalili– a venue that hosted President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron during the latter's visit in April.
Among the prominent figures Araghchi dined with were former Egyptian foreign ministers Amr Moussa, Nabil Fahmy, and Mohamed El-Orabi.
The top Iranian diplomat described the dinner conversation as 'very productive.'
Earlier on Monday, Araghchi also met with President El-Sisi, where they discussed bilateral and regional issues, including the current regional conflict.
He also held talks with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, where both ministers expressed a shared interest in strengthening ties.
They agreed to enhance cooperation in key areas, including trade, tourism, and continued political dialogue.
While formal diplomatic ties have yet to be fully restored, with ambassadors still not reappointed, Araghchi noted that close coordination between the two sides continues.
He added that Iran is not pressing for a specific timeline, and will proceed at Egypt's pace, stating, 'When our brothers in Egypt are ready, we will be ready.'
The Iranian foreign minister stated that 'After many years, Iranian and Egyptian diplomacy has entered a new phase.'
This marked Araghchi's second visit to Egypt since becoming foreign minister in August 2024.
His first trip, in October, was the first by a high-ranking Iranian official to Cairo in over a decade.
In recent years, ties between Egypt and Iran have notably improved following decades of tension rooted in Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution and Egypt's peace agreement with Israel the same year.
Renewed diplomatic engagement in 2023—especially in the wake of the war in Gaza—led to a wave of senior-level talks, reflecting a mutual interest in restoring normalised relations.
'As two influential regional powers with ancient cultures and civilisations, Iran and Egypt share a joint responsibility for maintaining peace, stability, and calm in the region,' Araghchi added in his X post.

The president's remarks came during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation Khaled Abdelaziz, Chairman of the National Press Authority Abdel-Sadek El-Shorbagy, and Chairman of the National Media Authority Ahmed El-Meslemany. "This aims to ensure national media keeps pace with rapid global changes and fulfils its mission in line with the orientations of the modern Egyptian state and the New Republic," President El-Sisi said, affirming the state's commitment to upholding freedom of expression. According to the presidential spokesman, President El-Sisi opened the meeting by extending his greetings and appreciation to all workers in the media sector. He praised the Egyptian media's vital role in building national character, shaping public awareness, informing citizens of developments at home and abroad, highlighting achievements, elevating public taste, and reinforcing societal values and constants. He also highlighted the importance of embracing all patriotic viewpoints within the Egyptian media system to strengthen pluralism and intellectual openness. Moreover, the president approved the government's proposed cash allowance for journalists and directed that the issue of end-of-service gratuities for the Egyptian Radio and Television Union's (Maspero) employees be resolved. He also urged relying on qualified young cadres for media work and organizing educational and training programmes for sector employees. Egypt's Annual Inflation Falls to 13.9% in July

Ahmed Emam Egypt's annual urban consumer inflation rate dropped to 13.9% in July from 14.9% in June, marking an unexpected slowdown despite forecasts of an upward trend. Nationwide, the annual inflation rate fell to 13.1% from 14.4% in the previous month, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). On a monthly basis, urban consumer prices fell by 0.6% in July compared to June 2025, the data showed. The deceleration comes in contrast to projections by local analysts, who had anticipated inflationary pressures to persist following recent cigarette price hikes, tax adjustments introduced by the Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA) , and the fading effect of the 'base year' comparison. Deutsche Bank had earlier forecast Egypt's inflation to average between 15% and 16% by the end of the year. Egypt's inflation reached an all-time high of 38% in September 2023 before gradually declining over the past year. Also, CAPMAS attributed July's slowdown mainly to a 3.1% drop in food and beverage prices. Meat and poultry prices fell by 4.9%, fruit prices dropped 11%, and vegetables were down 7%. Meanwhile, prices of grains and bread rose 0.4%, fish and seafood by 0.2%, oils and fats by 0.1%, sugar and sugary products by 0.2%, coffee, tea, and cocoa by 0.2%, and dairy products, cheese, and eggs by 0.2%. Economists say the latest figures could provide temporary relief for consumers struggling with the cost of living, though risks remain amid global market volatility and domestic fiscal adjustments. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
