I Finally Tamed My Frizzy Hair—These Hair Oils Deserve All the Credit

Elle03-07-2025
As someone who was blessed with dry, frizzy hair, I know the struggle of chasing the glossy, hydrated strands seen in every shampoo commercial. While hair masks can work wonders on split ends and gloss treatments offer a solid temporary solution, what if we told you there's one product that delivers both—and then some? Enter hair oil: the ultimate hair care multitasker for every hair type.
Whether your locks are curly, coily, fine, color-treated, or somewhere in between, hair oils are your shortcut to silky smooth strands. 'Not only do they promote a healthier head of hair by supplying vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants, but they also help detangle, tame frizz and flyaways, and add shine,' says celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos. The list of benefits doesn't end there. Giannetos adds that hair oils also soothe the scalp to help promote hair growth, and many modern formulas double as heat protectants, too.
With numerous options lining the beauty shelves, finding the right one for your hair type can be overwhelming. Luckily, that's why we're here. I've tested top-performing products, tapped Giannetos for his go-tos, and combed through countless customer reviews to find the ones worth adding to your arsenal. These picks go beyond basic shine, offering real results you can feel (and see) after just one use. So, whether you're aiming for frizz-free curls, stronger ends, or that elusive air-dried sheen, these 10 hair oils are sure to deliver.
This oil is the answer to all your hair care prayers. Made for all hair types, the argan oil elixir smooths frizz and boosts shine, while conditioning, detangling, and providing heat protection. I apply it through my mid-lengths to ends after styling, and any frizz, flyaways, or unwanted poofy texture immediately disappears. Both the impressive shine and delicious scent last all day long.'—Emma Aerin Becker, Associate Beauty E-Commerce Writer

It protects my strands from heat damage, doesn't feel heavy on my ends, and creates a frizz-free result that's never greasy.'—Emma Aerin Becker

This uniquely formulated hair oil is ultra-hydrating, thanks to mirsalehi honey—a powerful natural humectant sourced from Gisou's own bee garden. It's designed to reduce frizz and enhance shine on all hair types and textures, working especially well on dry hair due to its long-lasting hydration.

A Sephora reviewer says: 'This oil makes my hair so soft and shiny without feeling greasy! The scent is sweet in the best way and actually sticks around, which I love. I use a few drops on damp hair and it makes everything smoother and less frizzy. This has been a staple in humid summer weather!'
There's nothing worse than applying a hair oil just for your locks to feel heavy and greasy. Ouai ensures you never face this dilemma with their ultra-lightweight Hair Oil. Additionally, African galanga root extract helps protect color-treated hair from fading and color degradation.

An Amazon reviewer says: 'I absolutely LOVE this product! My hair is very frizzy and this oil has made such a difference! The oil is lightweight, smells amazing (if you like jasmine scents), and a little goes a long way. I use it on wet hair, and when I'm done styling I put it on my ends. And let me tell you THE SHINE. It doesn't have any harsh chemicals which is nice.'
The Augustinus Bader Hair Oil is like a tall glass of water for your hair. Powered by their patented TFC8 technology and packed with deeply nourishing, restorative botanicals—like baobab, argan, and pomegranate oils—the product reduces breakage, combats visible damage, and intensely hydrates.
Key ingredients: Baobab oil, argan oil, vitamin E
Bloomingdale's rating: 4.1/5
An ELLE editor says: 'The Hair Oil from Augustinus Bader feels just as luxurious as it looks. My favorite part is the unique dropper lid, which makes application an absolute breeze. Of course, the oil itself is also amazing—super lightweight and moisturizing without feeling heavy.'—Emma Aerin Becker
'My absolute favorite hair oil is the Pura D'or Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil,' says Giannetos. While it works on all hair types, he highly recommends it for those with fine, weak hair or stressed hair that has been damaged by chemical processing. 'It's like a miracle in a bottle to rebuild proteins and strengthen hair starting at the root.'
Key ingredients: Rosemary oil. peppermint oil, castor oil
When to apply: Dry hair before washing
Amazon rating: 4.5/5
An Amazon reviewer says: 'This Pura D'or Hair Strengthening Oil is great. I've been using it for over 2.5 months now, and combined with the hair growth regimen I already use, it has helped with new growth and overall strength. It's weightless and doesn't make my hair greasy. My hair is shedding less, and I have tons of baby hairs all over my head. I apply it in the morning when I wake up, let it sit for about 30 minutes while I enjoy my coffee, and then rinse it out in the shower.'
As someone who constantly uses hot tools to touch up my hair, I love a hair oil with heat protectant. The Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Hair Oil not only nourishes, enhances shine, and reduces frizz, but its Japanese-sourced red camellia oil protects against heat up to 450°F.
Key ingredients: Red camellia oil, vitamins A, C, E
Sephora rating: 4.7/5
A Sephora reviewer says: 'I have fine, wavy hair and I use this oil everyday. Not only does it protect my hair when I do a blow out, it smoothes and hydrates my hair without leaving it oily. My hair is hydrated and silky. I have used other oils that I thought were good, but this one wins.'
The way you use hair oil depends on your hair type. Giannetos confirms that it can be beneficial in any phase of your hair care routine, although different textures may benefit more from specific techniques. For thick hair, he recommends applying oil directly and using it as a treatment mask for 30 minutes to an hour before shampooing. For medium hair, apply it to wet strands for 'deep penetration' or mix it into your shampoo or conditioner. Those with thin, fine hair should be more cautious to avoid weighing strands down. 'Applying oil from mid-lengths to ends will boost moisture and shine while taming frizz and flyaways,' concludes Giannetos.
In general, Giannetos says hair products with natural, plant-based ingredients and high-quality oils deliver the best results. However, it's essential to consider your hair type when selecting a hair oil. Those with fine hair should opt for lighter oils that absorb easily—like jojoba, grapeseed, and sweet almond. Medium-thick hair responds well to argan, coconut, and rosemary oils. Thick, dry hair can handle all of the above, plus richer options like olive and avocado oil.

I finally found a desk that fits in my one-bedroom apartment, and it folds up in seconds

I haven't gone to an office in five and a half years. While I easily adapted to the work-from-home lifestyle, the one key ingredient missing from my workday was something that may shock you: I didn't have a desk for a solid two years. For those first couple of years, I either set up shop at my kitchen table or settled into the overstuffed armchair in my living room. As a freelance writer specializing in home and furniture products, I know this may seem a little, well, unorthodox. But I thought I had it pretty good, and I'd figured out the whole work-from-home thing to a T. Then, three years ago, I suffered from an intensely awful bout of sciatica where I couldn't sit for more than 10 seconds without screaming pain going into my left hip and thigh. The culprit? Slouching on my armchair and crushing my sciatic nerve instead of sitting upright at a desk. Thankfully, the sciatica only lasted for one excruciating month. I knew I had to make a change, but living in a one-bedroom apartment, figuring out how to incorporate a desk into the space seemed challenging. While I know many people who have and love their standing desks, I prefer to sit down, since I suffered a pretty bad ankle break almost a decade ago that prohibits me from standing for long periods of time. I knew I needed a more supportive situation for my back and hips, so a sitting desk was the answer for me. I definitely wanted a desk that looked as good as it would make me feel sitting at it. And then, while searching desks on Amazon one day, I came across the Wohomo Faux Marble Folding Desk. Voilà! Problem solved. This desk quickly became one of my most prized possessions. Our review of the Wohomo Faux Marble Folding Desk I'm always getting compliments on this desk's chic design I wanted my new desk to be as stylish as it was easy to assemble. I didn't want to set it up in my bedroom, since I'm a firm believer in the bedroom being only for sleep and relaxation. It also didn't help that at the time, I had extremely loud neighbors who listened to their TV and music at top volume in the bedroom, so working in there was definitely not an option. Since the desk would be a focal point in my living room, it was imperative that it wasn't an eyesore. First of all, I love the design. I went for white and gold, which features a faux marble desktop and gleaming, golden metal legs — it adds such a chic, glamorous touch to my space. The desk comes in a variety of other colors and finishes, too (six additional ones, to be exact), including beige with white legs, solid black wood, brown wood with black metal legs, gray wash wood with black legs, marbled gray with black legs, and solid white wood. I placed my desk right in the center of my bay window, and my neighbors have all commented on how cute it is when they walk by. And, yes, I've also heard some references to Carrie Bradshaw. Although I planned on keeping the desk set up in my window most of the time, I also wanted to be able to move it out of the way if needed. Because the legs fold in at the sides, that couldn't be easier. It's also compact enough that I can slide it behind my chair or couch without anyone being the wiser. I'll admit that I don't really do this very often, since I ended up loving the way it looks in my living room, but it is nice to have the option. It's easy to assemble and folds up in seconds I honestly couldn't be happier with how quickly I adjusted to having this foldable desk in my living room. I thought I would hate looking at it in my window and would fold it up at the conclusion of each workday. It's almost ridiculously easy to fold up — all you have to do is bend in each leg. Instead, I actually ended up leaving it in its place about 99% of the time. Its small size is unobtrusive, and the design brings me joy. It's also a fact of life that people with one-bedroom apartments need to put their desks somewhere, so I just decided this was where it would be. The only times I've decided to fold it up are when I have guests visiting and need the extra space for their items; otherwise, I leave it in its place by the window. The setup was incredibly simple, too. The desktop and the two legs, along with some screws, were inside the box. All you need to do is screw each leg into the desktop with the included Allen wrench, unfold them from underneath the desk, and lock them into place. The entire setup took less than 10 minutes and was completely painless. Done and done! Even though the desk is on the smaller side, it's exactly the right size for me. I have a 14-inch laptop, and it fits perfectly on the faux marble top. I prefer not to use an extra screen, so the laptop isn't crowded for space. I've even been able to decorate it with a few knickknacks, one of my favorite crystals, and bottles of hand cream and lip balm. It's the perfect size for my small apartment It was also important to me that the desk not be overly large. My living room isn't small, but I needed a desk that would be big enough for my laptop but not too imposing. It sits between my front door and my armchair, so there was literally a small window of space for it to occupy. Since it's only 31 inches long and a little under 16 inches deep, it truly doesn't feel like it's taken over my space. I sit at this desk every time I write, which can be in short bursts or several hours at a time. This desk is definitely a great choice for smaller spaces since it doesn't crowd the rest of my living room. During a recent visit with my mom, she sat on my couch while I worked, and we still both felt like we had enough distance between us. For under $70, it's a total steal This foldable desk has served me well over the past few years. It's under $70, which I think is an excellent deal on a piece of furniture I use almost daily. I definitely think the price is worth the overall value, too. It's stayed in one piece without any cracking or breaking, and it holds my laptop without any fear of buckling. It's also very easy to clean with a Clorox wipe. It's also worth mentioning that my sciatica has not returned in the past three years. Having a desk has helped me change my daily habits for the better. Instead of slouching in an armchair or over my kitchen table and crunching up my spine, now I sit fully upright in an office chair in front of my desk. My body feels so much better, and I can't really put a price on how important that has been to me. Cons to consider Truthfully, it's tough for me to find cons with the Wohomo Faux Marble Folding Desk. That said, it may be a bit wobbly. It has a weight capacity of 200 pounds, and I only keep about five pounds max of items on top of it. I'm honestly not sure if it's because my apartment is a bit slanted or because the desk itself is uneven, but I needed to attach a felt pad to the bottom of one leg to balance it out. Additionally, the legs sometimes fold in a bit while I'm working, causing the desk to squeak a bit. Whenever that happens, I just make sure to push the legs out a bit, and the squeaking goes away. The bottom line So, I know what you're asking. Is the Wohomo Folding Desk actually worth purchasing? As a writer who never owned a desk before this one (gasp!), I'll confirm this with an enthusiastic YES. I wholeheartedly recommend it for anyone who wants a small yet sturdy desk that won't be overly obtrusive, even in a smaller apartment. Plus, its glamorous design makes it a piece of interest within your space. It's a convenient, easily assembled piece of furniture that isn't too expensive.

TikTok thinks a weighted vest will change your body. Here's what the science says

If a regular hot girl walk is no longer cutting it, why not add a weighted vest to the mix? While not exactly new, weighted vests are making a strong comeback, especially on TikTok and Instagram, where wellness and fitness creators are touting the benefits of adding a 12-pound vest to your daily strolls. 'It's my weighted vest era,' menopause expert Dr. Mary Claire Haver posted to Instagram. 'Walk as much as you can in a weighted vest and you will be unrecognizable,' one TikTok creator wrote. 'This is my clubbing,' another creator posted. 'The strobe lights are the stars I see while walking 3 miles in 90 degrees with a 30lb weighted vest on.' From the $30 Zelus vest dominating your For You Page (often linked through influencers' Amazon storefronts) to a sleek 20-pound version from Equinox priced at $375, the concept is simple: Adding weight to your walks, runs, or workouts may help boost endurance and stamina. Now fitness and wellness creators are also promoting it as a weight-loss hack, with some claiming they've shed up to 30 pounds just by incorporating daily walks with the vest. But what does the science say? In one frequently cited study, participants wore weighted vests equal to 11% of their body weight for eight hours per day over three weeks and lost an average of 3.5 pounds. Another study had participants wear vests for 10 hours per day and found no significant weight-loss benefits—though many did report sore backs.

Massive Skechers sale live from $9 at Amazon — 15 deals I'd shop now on sneakers and apparel

Amazon is one of my favorite places to go for Skechers deals! Even though we're just off the back of a big sales event, you can currently still snag Skechers deals from just $9 at Amazon. But with so many to choose from, which ones should you go for? For starters, I highly recommend the Skechers Go Run Elevate 2.0 on sale from $43 at Amazon. We gave them 4 stars in our Skechers Go Run Elevate 2.0 review, praising their bouncy and comfortable feel underfoot. They're great for beginner runners, and they're even more affordable with a discount applied. Note that prices vary based on your choice of size and color, so check out the different color options in your size to score the best deals. For more savings, see our Amazon promo codes coverage, and check out the deals I'd shop from $15 in Amazon's Yeti sale. The Skechers Tantric are on sale for a super-cheap price, although the discount doesn't apply to all sizes and colors. These are super comfortable to wear thanks to their soft perforated footbed and canvas strap. Score these comfortable Skechers sneakers starting from $14. They feature a Skechers memory foam footbed and come in four stylish color options. Reviewers on Amazon say these are sturdy and fit true to size. These creatively-named Skechers wedges are on sale for a steal in certain sizes and colors! These sandals are super comfortable to wear thanks to their stretchy strap and Memory Foam footbed. I love the color option with the sparkly jewels on the strap! There isn't much better on the beach than these Skechers thong sandals. They have a very supportive design, with a Luxe Foam cushioned comfort insole and a shock-absorbing midsole that means you can wear them for hours without any discomfort. They look cool, too. These classic sneakers from Skechers are extra comfortable thanks to their Air-Cooled Memory Foam insole. They have a premium feel thanks to their suede upper, meaning you can wear them to dress up or dress down. These Skechers flip-flops are super cute thanks to their decorative crochet strap. But they're comfortable too, with Skechers Yoga Foam cushioned soles to keep you light on your feet even on long walks on the beach. These are the best Skechers slip-ins we've tested, so they're the ones to get if you want a super easy way to put your shoes on. They're lightweight, stretchy and breathable. In our Skechers Slip Ins Dazzling Haze review, we said they're perfect for low-impact activities like walking, light resistance training and dance cardio. If you prefer the classic slip-on look, the Go-Walk 5 Skechers have a soft, breathable, knitted upper that is comfortable across the top of your foot, whether you're wearing socks or not. They are machine washable, comfortable underfoot, and by design, extremely easy to slip on and off. These Skechers loafers are both smart and comfortable. They blend in well everywhere, from the office to the beach! With air-cooled memory foam underfoot and a stretch knit upper, your feet will be supported, and there's no chance of blisters. I'm a big fan of the sharp range of black and brown color options this shoe comes in, and they're super comfortable to boot, thanks to their Skechers Memory Foam cushioned comfort insole. They also have a flexible traction outsole that moves with you and keeps you steady on rough terrain. If you're hitting the road, these Skechers are an excellent choice. Our Skechers Go Run Elevate 2.0 review said that these are great for beginner runners thanks to their affordable price point, bouncy and propulsive soles and breathable design. We rank these shoes as the best Skechers for novice runners. These extremely light and breathable shoes are supportive, durable and come in at an affordable price point. However, we noted in our Skechers Go Run Lite review that you'll eventually want to upgrade to a shoe that is engineered for running longer distances if you do get serious about the sport. This Skechers Men's Polo is a total steal priced from $9 in certain sizes and colors. Made of Go Dri All Day fabric, it's lightweight, breathable and dries fast. It comes in white, black and three shades of blue. This Skechers tunic is a great choice to beat the heat. It's made of GO DRI SWIFT fabric that wicks sweat and dries fast. It also offers UPF 40+ protection and 4-way stretch. Plus, the side slits offer extra mobility without sacrificing coverage. Comfortable leggings are always welcome, whether you're at the gym or lounging around the house. We like these because they have exterior side pockets and a cotton-like feel, as well as 4-way stretch and moisture-wicking material.
