Sheikha Fatima thanks Türkiye for hosting 'Mother of the Nation'
Her Highness Sheikha Fatima praised the initiative as a reflection of the deep-rooted fraternal ties between the UAE and Türkiye, nurtured under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Türkiye.
She emphasised the continuous growth in UAE-Türkiye relations across all fields, bolstered by the shared vision of both nations' leadership and their mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation and friendship. These relations, she noted, are founded on mutual respect, joint interests, and a shared aspiration for a better future.
Her Highness Sheikha Fatima also expressed particular gratitude to President Erdoğan for the Turkish Presidency's patronage of the exhibition, commending his enduring support for bilateral ties and initiatives that enhance social and humanitarian collaboration.
She further conveyed special thanks to Emine Erdoğan, the wife of President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for her dedication in supporting the exhibition, lauding her distinguished contributions to Turkish society in the cultural, humanitarian, and social spheres, as well as her efforts to promote women's role in sustainable development.
Sheikha Fatima emphasised that the exhibition serves as an important cultural and social bridge between the two nations. It promotes mutual understanding, knowledge exchange, and cooperation in areas such as women's empowerment, family development, and community welfare. The exhibition, she added, embodies shared values and a joint commitment to sustainable development on both regional and global levels.
The selection of the Nation's Library of the Presidency, as the exhibition venue carries symbolic weight, reflecting the high esteem in which UAE-led initiatives are held in Türkiye and the depth of official and popular relations between the two countries.
Organised by the UAE Ministry of Interior, the "Mother of the Nation" exhibition celebrates the inspiring humanitarian and social legacy of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. It showcases key milestones in her decades of service to the community, presenting her as a national role model whose life continues to inspire generations.
The exhibition also highlights the achievements of Emirati women and promotes cultural and intellectual exchange between the Emirati and Turkish peoples.

Israel Retracts Claim About Bushehr Nuclear Plant
Israel claimed on Thursday, June 19, that it struck Iran's only functioning power plant along the Gulf coast; however, an Israeli military official backtracked on the statement, creating confusion over what happened. The military official said, "It was a mistake" to say that they had hit the Bushehr Nuclear Plant. The confusion happened after Israel targeted nuclear sites in Iran, following the latter's missile attacks on Israel earlier on Thursday, on the seventh day of the Iran-Israel war. Israel attacked the nuclear sites in Natanz, Isfahan and Arak in Iran, according to an Israeli military official. The Bushehr power plant is located near the UAE and employs technicians from Russia. It is the only functioning nuclear power plant in Iran and uses Russian fuel, which Moscow takes back to cut down proliferation risk. An attack on this nuclear plant would be a big step; when the Israeli military official was asked about the attack on Bushehr, he said that he could neither confirm nor deny it. The CEO of Russia's nuclear energy corporation Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev, said, "If there is a strike on the operational first power unit, it will be a catastrophe comparable to Chernobyl." Likhachev confirmed that Russian specialists had been removed from the nuclear power plant, but hundreds of people from the workforce remained on site. Russian President Vladimir Putin told journalists on Thursday that Israel had promised him that Moscow's workers at the Bushehr site will be safe.

Judge orders immediate release of Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil
A US federal judge has ordered the release of Mahmoud Khalil from immigration custody as his legal fight continues to play out. The Trump administration's deportation case against the Palestinian activist and US green card holder is not over yet, but now that he will be out on bail, Khalil will be able to hold his newborn son for the very first time. The decision is a landmark victory for rights organisations that said Khalil's constitutionally protected freedom of speech was not just trampled upon, but he was "punished". Judge Michael Farbiarz said on Friday that the Trump administration was unable to make its case that Khalil would be a danger to the public or a flight risk if released from an immigration detention facility in Jena, Louisiana, where he was secretly transferred after his arrest. Farbiarz, a New Jersey district court judge who is overseeing Khalil's case, last week ruled it was unconstitutional to detain and deport Khalil, a lawful permanent resident, for supporting Palestinian human rights, and that he should be released from detention. The government then told the court on Friday that it would continue to detain Khalil in Louisiana, saying that Khalil had omitted information on his green card application. "There is at least something to the underlying claim that there is an effort to use the immigration charge here to punish the petitioner (Khalil)," Farbiarz said, adding that punishing someone over a civil immigration matter is unconstitutional. While Farbiarz acknowledged that the government virtually never detains anyone on 'misrepresentation' charges, he said he would uphold their appeal, and did not grant Khalil's release. The government will continue to try to deport Khalil as the case continues. Who is Mahmoud Khalil? When the student protests began at Columbia University following the 7 October 2023 Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel and the subsequent war on Gaza, Khalil functioned as an intermediary between students and university administrators over the student movement's demands for university divestment from weapons companies profiting from Israel's war on Gaza. Khalil did not participate in the encampments himself, opting instead to negotiate with administrators and offer guidance to the students. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detained Khalil on 8 March. His wife, Nour Abdalla, was eight months pregnant. He became the first of a string of international student arrests outside their homes, often by plainclothes masked agents who would not tell them why they were being taken away, or to what location. The one thing they all had in common, despite not knowing one another, is that they opposed the war in Gaza in a public forum or had significant ties to someone who did. Khalil has been held at an ICE prison facility in Jena, Louisiana, since early March. His lawyers believe the Trump administration finds immigration judges in the south to be more favourable to the US government. In April, one of those judges said that Khalil could be deported even though he was a permanent US resident through his wife, an American citizen. According to the Associated Press, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had insisted that Khalil's "presence or activities would compromise a compelling US foreign policy interest'. Marc Van der Hout, one of Khalil's lawyers, said in a statement issued after that ruling that Khalil had been 'subject to a charade of due process', adding his deportation order was 'a flagrant violation of his right to a fair hearing, and a weaponisation of immigration law to suppress dissent'. Van der Hout then turned to Farbiarz to put a stop to that order. The immigration court's refusal to allow Khalil to attend the birth of his son was a double blow to his family.

UAE, Bahrain and Oman evacuate citizens from Iran; more than 20 countries including India, China and US step up repatriation
The UAE, Bahrain, Oman and countries from across the world have stepped up efforts to evacuate citizens from Iran amid rising tensions in the region. The UAE evacuated a number of its nationals and residents from the Islamic Republic of Iran, in coordination with the relevant authorities. As part of its unwavering commitment to the safety of its nationals and residents, and in swift response to emergencies, the UAE successfully executed evacuation operations, which were coordinated and facilitated by the Iranian side, to ensure their safe return home. UAE among countries to evacuate citizens from Iran Furthermore, the UAE continues to engage in intensive calls and diplomatic consultations with the relevant and strategic partners, to de-escalate tensions and restore peace, stemming from a steadfast commitment to diplomacy and dialogue as the only viable path forward. This reflects the UAE's broader vision of fostering stability, justice, and prosperity for the peoples of the region. Meanwhile, Oman, in continuation of the efforts made by the Foreign Ministry to facilitate the repatriation of citizens from Iran, announced the safe return of 193 Omani nationals from Bandar Abbas Port to Khasab Port. The repatriation was secured as part of the third phase of the approved evacuation plan. In a humanitarian cooperation effort, this phase also included the repatriation of 158 nationals of other countries who were able to transit through Oman under the current circumstances. Additionally, 155 Omani citizens and a number of foreign nationals were safely repatriated by air from Iraq to Oman, as part of ongoing coordination with relevant authorities and the Omani Embassy in Baghdad. The Ministry, in cooperation with Oman's diplomatic missions abroad, continues to implement the evacuation plan to ensure the safe and secure return of all Omani citizens to their homeland. For its part Bahrain, in its ongoing efforts to facilitate the return of Bahraini citizens stranded abroad in countries affected by current developments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs deployed a team of Bahraini diplomats to Turkmenistan. The diplomats are overseeing and coordinating with the relevant Turkmen authorities to streamline entry procedures for Bahraini citizens stranded in the Islamic Republic of Iran, enabling their transit through Turkmenistan and onward travel to the Kingdom of Bahrain via Gulf Air, the national carrier. The Ministry also arranged transportation by bus from the city of Mashhad for citizens wishing to depart Iran by land. The regional repatriations come as more than 20 countries around the world are taking measures to evacuate their citizens from Israel and Iran as the two nations enter the seventh day of their air war and airspace in the region remains closed.
