South Africa select Kolisi at No.8 for Australia clash at Ellis Park

Aug 11 (Reuters) - Manie Libbok has been named at flyhalf and captain Siya Kolisi at number eight for the first time as South Africa selected a side that is likely to play with ball in hand for their Rugby Championship opener against Australia at Ellis Park on Saturday. The world champion Springboks are seeking a fifth successive win against the Wallabies as they also seek to retain their southern hemisphere crown won last year. Scrumhalf Grant Williams is alongside Libbok, with battering ram Andre Esterhuizen at inside centre and Jesse Kriel in the number 13 jersey. The back three includes fullback Aphelele Fassi, with Kurt-Lee Arendse and Edwill van der Merwe on the wing. Kolisi switches to number eight having played much of the recent United Rugby Championship season there for the Sharks, with Marco van Staden and Pieter-Steph du Toit the two flankers. Veterans Eben Etzebeth and Lood de Jager are the lock pairing, while hooker Malcolm Marx has props Ox Nche and Wilco Louw either side of him. "We've been experimenting with player combinations during the (July internationals) and at our conditioning camp in the last two weeks, and we believe this team will allow us to play the type of rugby we want to play against Australia," Erasmus said. "All of the starters except for Edwill have faced them before, and we are confident that he is ready for this challenge." Centre Damian De Allende is sidelined through injury and wing Cheslin Kolbe was not selected as a precaution despite returning to training last week. Erasmus, who switched his team announcement to Monday, has opted for a 5-3 split between forwards and backs, another sign the Springboks intend to run the ball. Scrumhalf Cobus Reinach, wing/centre Canan Moodie and utility back Damian Willemse are the three backline options. "They (Australia) are a physical and well-coached team, and we'll certainly not underestimate how much those performances (against the British & Irish Lions), combined with their motivation to bounce back strongly against us after the last few results between the teams, and win their first match ever at Ellis Park, will inspire them," Erasmus said. South Africa team: 15–Aphelele Fassi, 14–Edwill van der Merwe, 13–Jesse Kriel, 12–Andre Esterhuizen, 11–Kurt-Lee Arendse, 10–Manie Libbok, 9–Grant Williams, 8–Siya Kolisi, 7–Pieter-Steph du Toit, 6–Marco van Staden, 5–Lood de Jager, 4–Eben Etzebeth, 3–Wilco Louw, 2–Malcolm Marx, 1–Ox Nche Replacements: 16–Bongi Mbonambi, 17–Jan-Hendrik Wessels, 18–Asenathi Ntlabakanye, 19–Franco Mostert, 20–Kwagga Smith, 21–Cobus Reinach, 22–Canan Moodie, 23–Damian Willemse.

‘They wanna ruin us' – Luke Littler reveals his and girlfriend Faith's struggles as he opens up on new relationship

LUKE LITTLER has claimed girlfriend Faith Millar is just what he "needed" in his chaotic life. The darts sensation has been dating the beautician since March, although the pair initially played down their relationship. 3 3 3 The couple, 18 and 19 respectively, went public with their relationship in July by sharing an intimate kiss before Litter's World Matchplay Darts quarter-final in Blackpool. And Littler has been happy as Larry since coupling up with Millar, who joined him Down Under for the Australian Darts Masters. He told DartsStream Live: "She's a lovely lady, Faith. "I think it's sort of what I needed. I knew my mum and dad weren't going to come. "And as soon as I asked the question, she was like, 'Yeah, I don't think I'll ever get the chance." So I said, 'You can come with me.'" Litter is still getting to grips with being a global superstar after being thrust into the limelight two years ago. His relationship with Millar is now also in the spotlight and has been the subject of criticism from vile online trolls. Littler has become adept at blocking out the "negativity" aimed their way by trolls, who he reckons are "jealous" of the life they're living. "But I just said, 'Just don't look at it and just focus on what we've got." Millar's presence in Wollongong proved to be a good luck charm as Littler got his hands on the Australian Darts Masters trophy thanks to an 8-4 win over Mike De Decker in the final. An elated Littler said: "Obviously, it hadn't gone to plan on the World Series circuit this year. "But there's plenty of opportunities to win and I've finally picked up that trophy. "I cannot wait for Auckland now. We'll have a few days off, and then off we go!"

'Inappropriate touching' drama as the AFL hands down ruling on video footage

The AFL 's Integrity Unit has closed down an investigation into an incident of 'potential inappropriate touching'. On Saturday, the Brisbane Lions came unstuck against the Swans late on, with the reigning premiers succumbing to a two-point defeat at The Gabba. But a bizarre incident has overshadowed the match after a Brisbane player Henry Smith and Swans player Nick Blakey appeared to feud on the footy pitch during the final minute of the first quarter. The Swans halfback had taken a mark inside Brisbane's forward line before falling to the ground. Smith's foot then appeared to make contact with Blakey's head, with the latter then appearing to kick out at his opponent, tripping him to the ground. As he fell to the ground off-balance, the Brisbane player appeared to reach out with his hand and make contact with Blakey's backside. Nine's Tom Morris stated on Monday that the Lions and Swans had 'been aware of the AFL's enquiries' over the matter. However, he added that there was 'no complaint' from Blakey or the Swans regarding the matter, with the league having subsequently scratched their investigations. A statement from the AFL read: 'Following inquiries by the AFL Integrity Unit into an incident during the Brisbane Lions and Sydney Swans match on Saturday, it has been determined that no further action is required.' On Monday, the Lions said: 'The club is aware the AFL Integrity Unit is looking into an alleged incident from Saturday's match against Sydney. While this process is being conducted, the club will not be commenting at this point.' Morris said that the incident had been 'initially viewed throw a Match Review Officer lens' before it was referred to the AFL's Integrity Unit.
