KOTA KINABALU – The lawyer representing Noraidah Lamat, mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, has rejected allegations circulating on social media suggesting that the post-mortem of the Form One student was influenced by any external or unseen parties.
Shahlan Jufri, who accompanied the forensic team throughout the entire procedure, said that the autopsy was carried out thoroughly and transparently over the course of more than eight hours, involving four medical specialists, police officers and an official photographer.
'The post-mortem procedure was conducted professionally. There were no elements as described on social media, no hidden hands.
'I personally witnessed every step, including the internal organ examination, from start to finish,' he said.
He confirmed that he was present from 11am until 7.30pm and observed the entire process alongside a group of seven to eight individuals consisting of forensic experts, police representatives and himself.
He described the environment as professional and accountable.
Shahlan also made clear that no individuals of high status or Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs) were present at any point during the post-mortem.
'There were none. Only family representatives, medical professionals and police officers were present,' he added.
He further mentioned that documentation of the autopsy was properly recorded, but emphasised that details regarding injuries cannot be made public at this stage, as the case remains under active investigation. The family lawyer confirmed the presence of injuries on Zara Qairina's body and stressed that the post-mortem process was conducted transparently without external interference.
'The post-mortem report is a confidential document and not for public release. It may only be disclosed in court should an inquest be held,' he said.
Looking ahead, Shahlan said that a formal request for an inquest may be pursued once the current investigation has concluded.
'Next, I'll be discussing the next steps with the family and our legal team. There is a strong possibility we will apply for an inquest,' he said.

Hundreds gather outside Sogo in solidarity for Zara Qairina

KUALA LUMPUR: The bustling area outside the Sogo shopping complex here turned into a centre of solidarity and grief as hundreds gathered to demand justice for Zara Qairina Mahathir. The song "Justice For Zara Qairina" filled the air, followed by chants of "Justice for Zara," as people from all walks of life joined the solidarity rally, which began at 8pm today. Organised by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and attended by social media influencers, participants dressed in black and carried placards and banners bearing the message "Justice For Zara." Amid the chants, participants also shouted "Justice for Haris" in solidarity with Syamsul Haris Shamsudin, 22, who died on July 28 during Palapes training at the Army Training Centre (Pulada) Combat Inoculation Range in Ulu Tiram, Johor. Throughout the gathering, police were stationed at the site to ensure safety, and the rally proceeded peacefully. Meanwhile, a similar rally was held at Lintasan Deasoka in Kota Kinabalu, with participants coming from Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei, and Peninsular Malaysia to show their support despite drizzling weather. Participants in Kota Kinabalu also carried placards, posters, and banners with messages of solidarity, including "Justice For Zara," as a show of unity in demanding the truth. Police maintained order, and the event remained peaceful. The rally turned particularly sombre when Saimah Alkan, 37, from Tuaran, took the stage. Hugging her daughter tightly, she managed only a few words before tears flowed, evoking a wave of sympathy among the crowd. Deeply affected by the tragedy, Saimah, a mother of a daughter the same age as the late student, appealed to the government to conduct a transparent and thorough investigation to ensure justice is served for Zara Qairina. The incident involving the Form One student has drawn widespread sympathy, with calls for authorities to carry out a comprehensive investigation to uncover the truth behind the case. Zara Qairina's death has sparked a wave of public outcry nationwide and also drawn attention from international social media users, who have expressed support online since last week.

Justice will prevail in Zara Qairina case, reaffirms Anwar

LARUT: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed that those responsible for the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir will be brought to justice, stressing that no individual involved will be allowed to escape accountability. In this regard, Anwar advised certain parties not to manipulate the case in ways that create negative perceptions or resort to insulting specific individuals. "... the government has said the police are investigating, and I have made it clear that it doesn't matter who (is involved), they will be investigated," he said when officiating the Madani Dairy Entrepreneurs Carnival themed "Driving Modern Agricultural Revolution, Generating People's Economy" at the Farm Fresh Perak Dairy Complex here today. Also present were Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. Meanwhile, Anwar said the government will continue efforts to protect the vulnerable, including fishermen and farmers. "That is why every Friday before prayers, I eat at small eateries, because I want to meet the people, I want to ask, is everything okay, do you have enough? "I don't want to wait until election campaigns to visit eateries … I do this every week," he said. After the event, Anwar also took time to inspect the construction of the new road from Kamunting to Anak Kurau, Larut Matang Selama Phase Two, implemented under the Rural Roads Programme (JALB) of Rural and Regional Development Ministry. The project, approved in 2016 with a total cost of RM91 million, is being carried out by the Public Works Department through conventional consultancy, involving the construction of a 6.6-kilometre new road. It is expected to benefit more than 5,000 residents in the surrounding areas and have a positive impact on agriculture and plantation enterprises along the route, besides improving accessibility and stimulating local economic growth. To date, the project, which is scheduled for full completion on Aug 15, 2026, has achieved 70.5 per cent progress compared to the original 62.6 per cent, ahead of schedule by 59 days.
