Ealges making ‘positive' progress on Harley deal
Izak Rankine's hopes of a premiership are alive, but only just, after the Crows star was hit with a four-match ban for using a homophobic slur. West Coast are making headway towards a new deal for superstar Harley Reid, with new details emerging of what his future could look like. As the Eagles look to rebuild from their lowest ebb, Reid remains the linchpin of their plans, having led the midfield in the absence of Elliot Yeo this season. He has long been linked with a move back to Victoria with clubs reportedly queuing up with long-term offers for the emerging superstar. Speculation around his future hit overdrive last week with reports St Kilda have put in a long-term offer worth $25 million. Reid's management has been locked in negotiations with the Eagles for months, having reportedly put a variety of options on the table for the 20-year-old, including a monster $24 million 11-year deal. However, it appears Reid is looking increasingly likely to sign a more medium-term extension. 'It's not as far along as people would like to think it is, but I will say this, the conversation is now a positive one between West Coast and Harley's management,' Seven's Ryan Daniels said. 'A possible deal would be a 2-3 yr extension rather than the monster 2+9 yr deal and would likely see Harley join Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera in the $2 million club. Reid returned to training last week, having spent some time back home in Victoria after an ankle injury suffered in the Western Derby ended his season early. On Monday, coach Andrew McQualter said the star remains fully committed to the Eagles. 'I've said this many times: Harley is invested in our football club. Clearly, he's injured at the moment, but he's back here doing his rehab program, building himself back up for a big season. 'We're working closely with Harley's management group, and as soon as there's any news to share, we'll share it.' It comes as Daniels expects captain Oscar Allen to formally announce his departure from the club in the coming days once the Eagles season is officially over. 'It looks like Monday or Tuesday, Allen will announce formally that he's leaving.'

West Coast negotiations with Harley Reid move in ‘positive direction' on shorter deal
West Coast and Harley Reid are moving in a 'positive direction' on a new deal, but it won't be a long-term contract that has previously been flagged. The future of Reid has been an ongoing saga since he joined the Eagles with pick No.1 in the 2023 draft. He has long been linked with a move back to Victoria with clubs reportedly queuing up with long-term offers for the emerging superstar. Speculation around his future hit overdrive last week with reports St Kilda have put in a long-term offer worth $25 million. West Coast had put a range of different offers in front of Reid, including a blockbuster two-year deal with a nine-year player option that was reportedly worth well over $20m. But now that deal appears unlikely. 7NEWS Perth reporter Ryan Daniels said a much shorter deal is now on the table. 'It's not as far along as people would like to think it is, but I will say this, the conversation is now a positive one between West Coast and Harley's management,' he said on Triple M. 'The old two-year plus a nine-year extension to get to $24 million, I don't think that's going to happen now. That is going to be reworked, it's going to be a much shorter deal.' Despite the deal being shorter, it will still catapult Reid into the very top echelon of earners in AFL, joining St Kilda superstar Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera in the $2m club. 'Very similar to a Nas job, now they are looking at a two or three-year extension, on top of the year he already has. 'We're talking the $2m club, the Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera club. 'There's a long way to go on this, there are no triggers attached to it, there's nothing else, it's just 2-3 years, keep it simple, shorter term, $2m a year. 'That's what they are looking at now, things have moved, they are not done by any stretch of the imagination.' Reid has played 39 games in two years for the club and has shown his enormous potential with a string of eye-catching performances. The explosive midfielder's season ended earlier after suffering an injury in the loss to Fremantle in Round 20.
