Kedarnath Dham Yatra resumes as admin clears debris following landslide
The Kedarnath Dham Yatra has resumed in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district after the administration cleared debris from multiple locations caused by a landslide on Sunday.
The Yatra was temporarily suspended following the landslide, which resulted in the death of one person and injuries to two others.
According to a statement from the Rudraprayag Police, the landslide was triggered by continuous heavy rainfall, which caused large amounts of debris and stones to fall onto the trekking route, blocking and damaging the walkway to Kedarnath Dham.
Officials further noted that a yellow alert has been issued for the region, predicting continuous rainfall throughout the week. As a precaution and in view of the safety of the devotees, the footpath to the Kedarnath Dham from Sonprayag has been suspended.
Rudraprayag Police have also urged all devotees en route to Kedarnath Dham to remain in nearby hotels and safe accommodations, and advised those planning the Char Dham Yatra to monitor weather forecasts and travel advisories closely.
"The footpath was blocked due to debris falling in the ravine near Jangalchatti. The footpath to Kedarnath Dham has been suspended from Sonprayag till further orders. According to the information received some time ago, the footpath to Kedarnath Dham has been partially blocked due to debris falling in the ravine due to continuous heavy rain near Jangalchatti. The district police appeals to the pilgrims coming to Shri Kedarnath Dham to stay safe wherever they are and stay in hotels, etc., at nearby places," it further added.
The Char Dham Yatra 2025 officially began on April 30 with the opening of the Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham on Akshaya Tritiya amid Vedic chants and rituals. The doors of Kedarnath Dham were opened on May 2, and those of Badrinath on May 4.

Dehradun/New Delhi: In the wake of the Kedarnath helicopter crash that claimed seven lives, the Uttarakhand govt suspended all Aryan Aviation operations for the Char Dham Yatra with immediate effect. As a precaution, Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) halted all chartered and shuttle flights in the region on June 15 and 16. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered a high-level probe into the incident and directed strict action in case of negligence. The decision was taken at a meeting convened by Dhami with senior govt officials, civil aviation secretary, DGCA representatives and other stakeholders at his residence on Sunday. One dead after landslip hits Kedarnath walking route, yatra suspended from Sonpryag till further orders
One person was killed and two sustained injuries after a landslip, triggered by incessant rainfall, hit the Junglechatti walking route of Kedarnath in Uttarakhand on Sunday (June 15, 2025). Authorities suspended the Kedarnath yatra from Sonprayag until further notice. Citing safety concerns amid the adverse weather, the Rudrapryag Police appealed to the devotees coming to Kedarnath temple to remain safe wherever they are. 'If possible, find accommodation and stay put till the weather gets better,' the police said through their social media handles. The police added that security is being provided for devotees walking on the footpath. They also appealed to pilgrims planning the Kedarnath yatra to check weather forecasts and travel advisories before making their journey. District disaster management officials said that only the pilgrims returning from Kedarnath temple were allowed to proceed towards Sonprayag. 'Those going uphill were stopped,' the officials added. According to the Uttarakhand Tourism department, Char Dham Yatra, which started from May 2, has been witnessing a massive rush this year. Over 10 lakh people visited the Kedarnath temple alone in the past 45 days. The metrological department has issued a yellow alert for Rudraprayag and nearby areas for the rest of the week. District authorities have taken precautionary measures, especially in landslip-prone zones along the route.
