Music tycoon Simon Cowell has openly reflected on fatherhood in a heartfelt interview with This Morning's Jeff Brazier ahead of Father's Day. In the touching exchange, the 65 year old disclosed how fatherhood has transformed him and expressed worries about his 11 year old son's future.
Simon, who welcomed his sole child Eric in February 2014 with his partner Lauren Silverman, has generally maintained a private family life. Nonetheless, during a Britain's Got Talent episode in the 2024 series, viewers were treated to a surprise when Eric joined his father on stage for a memorable Golden Buzzer moment, pressing the iconic buzzer himself.
The series also shed light on Eric's budding interest in drumming, but Simon has now divulged further details about his young son to dad-of-two Jeff. The music impresario lovingly expressed how significant his son is to his life.
"Honestly, everything. Out of everything I've ever done in my life, this is the best thing to ever happen to me. The very first time I saw his scan, I was literally obsessed," he gushed.
Despite the joys, Simon acknowledged the challenges that come with raising a child in today's world, specifically surrounding the topic of technology. "We're getting to a point where the word phone comes up. 'Oh god, here we go,'" said Simon, who notably doesn't use a personal mobile phone, reports the Mirror.
Simon's concerns about children's access to mature content were evident as he spoke: "I'm very worried Jeff, about how much kids can see at a certain age. I grew up...Which was learning things at the right time, the right age, etcetera etcetera. I just would be petrified of him having access to anything, that would really worry me."
Simon continued, expressing his opinion on the pressures placed on children by schools: "I think schools put too much pressure on kids, which is, you're getting up at seven in the morning, you're coming home say at five, six in the afternoon, evening and then you've got to do two hours of homework."
He further elaborated: "It's like, they're ten, eleven, twelve years old. It's too much. I would say to any teacher watching, ban homework, you'll have happier kids and they'll do better."
Simon, known for being the 'tough' judge since his 2001 appearance on Pop Idol, has mellowed over the years. However, he revealed that his high standards apply even to Eric, his son.
In response to Jeff's inquiry about his approach if Eric were to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, Simon confessed that he would be "absolutely honest" with him.
Simon explained: "I've thought about this. What if he said to me, 'I want to be a singer' and he couldn't sing, I would be absolutely honest with him. If he couldn't, I would say, 'You know what, be a drummer,'" he joked.
However, it appears Eric has a hidden talent as Simon shared: "He actually can play the drums well but he's quite shy. You know, I walk and I hear him, and he stops. I say, 'Why are you stopping?' and he says, 'Well, I'm a bit embarrassed' and I say, 'Well don't be, you're really good."

No EuroMillions winner means biggest lottery prize in UK rolls over yet again
With no EuroMillions winner, the jackpot on Tuesday will be an estimated £208 million - a massive, life-changing scoop - but first you have got to grab your ticket online or in shops An estimated £208 million is up for grabs in Tuesday's lottery after no EuroMillions winner was found on Friday. The jackpot will is now biggest lottery prize the UK has seen, National Lottery operator Allwyn said. The total prize money has now been capped, meaning prize pots in the next winning tier will be boosted. "Tuesday will see the incredible £208 million EuroMillions jackpot still up for grabs. A win of this magnitude would create the biggest National Lottery winner this country has ever seen. Get your tickets early to ensure you're in with a chance of a massive life-changing win," Andy Carter, senior winners' adviser at Allwyn, said. Five UK players became millionaires on Friday after matching five main numbers and one Lucky Star, winning £3.61 million each. However, there was no EuroMillions winner. Mr Carter added: "The EuroMillions jackpot is now capped, so any money that would have gone into increasing the jackpot now boosts prizes in the next winning prize tier, meaning that we're seeing multiple UK players banking huge prizes for matching just the five main numbers and one Lucky Star." The main EuroMillions winning numbers on Fridaywere 02, 28, 40, 43, 45 and the lucky stars were 03 and 07. Friday June 13 also saw 13 UK millionaires made through a special EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker event. "Contrary to superstition, Friday the 13th has proven the luckiest date in the calendar for these lucky UK players. All UK EuroMillions players should check their tickets and contact us if they believe they are one of tonight's lucky winners," Mr Carter continued. No players won the £1 million HotPicks jackpot – which uses the same numbers as the EuroMillions draw. No players won the £500,000 Thunderball jackpot either. The five Thunderball numbers were 01, 02, 24, 33, 39 and the Thunderball number was 13. When mum Annie Leith entered a different lottery last year, she was overwhelmed to be able to take her family on an abroad holiday for the first time. The yoga teacher, from Pill, Somerset, told the Mirror: "We have some wonderful memories, like waking up and hearing the waves crash off the cliffs in Tenerife. It was crazy to see and hear that. My children chasing lizards there was amazing, and the black sand on the beaches there was great. Digging shoes into the black sand was lovely. I remember the kids talking, or trying to talk, in Spanish out there and trying to encourage them. "We have all got this little spark that something will happen outside the norm one day, and for us that has. This happened to my family to the nth degree so we are lucky... The world isn't this thing with boundaries, which again is maybe a Covid thing, and it is great to explore. We have been able to experience this now and it has been life-changing."

Jamie Laing shares moving tribute as pal tragically dies on Air India flight
Jamie Laing has paid tribute to his 'wonderful' friend who was feared to be on the ill-fated Air India flight this week. Fiongal Greenlaw, 39, and his husband Jamie Meek, 45, are thought to have been on board the flight, bound for London's Gatwick Airport, which went down shortly after take-off. They are said to have been on holiday in India. The couple co-founded a wellness brand together, which had been shown on ITV's This Morning. Following the tragic news, Jamie paid tribute to Jamie with a tribute on his Instagram Stories. "I will miss you dear friend," he said. "A wonderful human with a wonderful soul." Fiongal appeared as a guest on This Morning in January. During the episode, he gave hosts Ben and Cat a reading over their auras. He was brought back as a spiritual advisor on the show in April, with him appearing alongside Ben, Cat and Josie Gibson in the TV studio based in London. After his first visit, a post shared by his wellness brand the Wellness Foundry on Instagram read: "So this happened ... The biggest gig so far! Fiongal on This Morning - it was very nerve-wracking but he was honoured to chat about one of his favourite topics to such a big audience." The post on the platform continued: "Thank you to everyone [at] This Morning for being so amazing and guiding me through. Thank you to [Cat and Ben] for being so kind and welcoming." Fiongal and Jamie are said to have been died in the plane crash this week. As it was previously reported, the duo posted a clip from Ahmedabad airport moments before getting on the plane. Fellow Made In Chelsea star Alex Mytton also paid tribute amid reports Jamie and Fiongal died in the crash. Tagging his girlfriend Helen Wood, Alex wrote: "A bit lost for words and feeling a tad emotionally exhausted so I just want to write a short message so as to get the message out. "Our lovely friends Fiongal & Jamie were very sadly killed yesterday in the plane crash in India. There's a lot more I want to say about them, as they were very close to @Hannah_woood & I's heart but right now I just wanted to say that if anybody wants to meet up tomorrow if they're feeling heavy, sad or just wanna hang out with some other humans I'm gonna be organising a little meet up & hug in the park or along the lines (sorry not making loads of sense atm). "It feels like there's a lot of sadness and pain at the moment and just wanted to do something as a vigil to our friends but also for everything else going on at the moment. "So please if you're feeling down or even just up for hanging out or just saying hey, it'll be a bunch of us just chatting and chilling in the park."
