7 UP officers attend National Conference on Women in Police
Seven women officers from Uttar Pradesh Police attended the two-day 11th National Conference on Women in Police organised by the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) and the Tamil Nadu Police in Chennai starting Wednesday.
The delegation included Padmaja Chauhan, Additional Director General, Women and Child Safety Organisation (WCSO), Vrinda Shukla, SP (WCSO/1090) and Sambhal Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anukriti Sharma.
The conference was attended by women cops across ranks starting from constable to DG/ADG from all states and UTs, paramilitary forces and agencies like the National Investigation Agency (NIA), officials said.
The aim of the conference was to brainstorm on ways of increasing the representation of women in the police force, mainstreaming them and making them progress in all kinds of policing roles. The themes of the conference were 1) recruitment, training, gender sensitive uniforms and accoutrements 2) mainstreaming and career growth 3) work life balance 4) welfare measures, including mental health 5) ?ideas and vision on empowerment of women and 6) best practices in prevention of human trafficking.

Family of UP woman cop, found dead in May, alleges she was sexually assaulted
A 27-year-old woman constable of the Uttar Pradesh Police was found dead in her rented accommodation in Lucknow on May 27. Her body was discovered hanging, in what is now emerging as a case of abetment to suicide following serious allegations of blackmail, sexual exploitation and financial constable, originally from Amroha district, had joined the UP Police in 2019. She was initially posted to Ghazipur police station and had been working at Madiyaon police station for the past two victim's family has accused a man named Satwant, also from Amroha, of repeatedly blackmailing her, sexually exploiting her, and extorting nearly Rs 12.5 lakh from her. The constable was found dead in her house in the Sarvodaya Nagar area. Following the family's complaint, a case of abetment to suicide has been registered against the accused at the Ghazipur police Commissioner of Police (Crime) Babloo Kumar confirmed that Satwant is currently absconding and efforts are on to trace him."Preliminary investigation has revealed that the constable was under severe financial and emotional stress. We are conducting a thorough investigation, and further action will be taken based on the evidence," he said.

UP cop amasses Rs 10.59 crore worth of illegal assets in 14 years, arrested
A corruption case has been registered against an inspector in the Uttar Pradesh Police for allegedly accumulating disproportionate assets worth over Rs 10.59 crore during her 14-year tenure. This indicated an excess of 97.55 per cent above her legal to the FIR, Nargis Khan, who was arrested, acquired extensive property including houses, plots, restaurants, bars, shops, shopping complexes and petrol pumps in Meerut. Additionally, she purchased flats, plots, bars, and petrol pumps in Ghaziabad and FIR, filed by the Anti-Corruption Unit at Meerut's Medical College police station, accused Khan of acquiring property worth Rs 10.59 crore between January 1, 2007, and March 31, 2021, while her known income during the same period was only Rs 5.36 crore. The discrepancy amounted to Rs 5.23 crore. Currently posted at the Special Investigation Branch in Bareilly, Khan previously served multiple tenures in Meerut. Allegations suggest that during the Samajwadi Party regime, she secured postings in Meerut at her own husband, Suresh Kumar Shekhar, is reportedly closely associated with Samajwadi Party Inspector Durgesh Kumar filed the complaint after a detailed investigation, which was initiated following a 2021 served notices and collected records of her income, expenses, bank accounts, and property transactions. ‘UP 1090 women power line a national inspiration'
1 2 Lucknow: Actor Shriya Pilgaonkar on Thursday lauded Uttar Pradesh's 1090 Women Power Line, calling it a model of women's safety that should be replicated across India. During her visit to Women and Child Safety Organisation (WCSO) headquarters in Lucknow, Shriya praised the state's technology-driven, empathetic approach to handling crimes against women. Interacting with officials, she observed functioning of 1090 helpline, which receives over 8,000 calls daily. "It's remarkable how action is taken swiftly without the survivor even having to visit police station," she said. Shriya noted that helpline not only counsels victims but also provides psychological counselling to accused individuals to prevent repeat offences. Pilgaonkar, who plays a police officer in her upcoming crime series Chhal Kapat, said her visit aimed to promote awareness around women's safety. "Security doesn't come from fear alone—it comes from understanding, awareness, and technology," she said. She said safe society could be built only when citizens were informed and proactive. "When women speak up and society listens with empathy, real change happens," she added. WCSO ADG Padmaja Chauhan presented Shriya with awareness material and token of appreciation.
