MusicTown returns to the National Concert Hall
MusicTown is a shapeshifting programme of live events created to reflect this ever-changing world of live music in Dublin City.
Within this programme, there is music as experimental theatre, a reflection of one of history's great singers/composers by a group of young musicians, an all-ages DIY afternoon show, a 62-year-old songwriter performing his solo work live for the first time, a sensational young performer from Fermanagh summoning the ancient and the modern, and much, much more.
Staged throughout the nooks and crannies of the National Concert Hall, this year's MusicTown will feature main auditorium performances from Fermanagh sensation Róis collaborating with Crash Ensemble; Glasshouse tackling the works of Scott Walker; and Crash Ensemble once again, this time joining forces with former Revelino man Bren Berry, who charmed audiences with his debut album earlier this year.
Playing a pivotal role in 2025's MusicTown programme, Crash Ensemble will also collaborate with acclaimed vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Anna Mieke in a performance featuring interpretations of existing and developing work.
Also on the bill is a very special - and very rare - performance from Operating Theatre, the music/theatre group formed in the 1980s by godfather of Irish electronic music and renowned composer Roger Doyle, alongside acclaimed actor Olwen Fouéré.
Operating Theatre were recently honoured by Caroline Polachek, who released a version of their song 'Spring is Coming with a Strawberry in the Mouth'.
Cellist Eimear Reidy and experimental all-rounder Natalia Beylis come together in The Kevin Barry Room for a matinee performance of She Came Through the Window to Stand by the Door and other works for piano and cello, creating evocative and intoxicating music that conjures webs of woodland landscapes, kosmische moonrises and odysseys of drone.
Foggy Notions consistently platforms the most exciting emerging talent from Ireland and abroad and MusicTown ensures this continuity. Irish/French artist Goldbug will be joined by Crash Ensemble for a very special showcase of music from his forthcoming album, co-produced with Chris W Ryan, and mastered by Heba Kadry - which follows an art rock tradition, with a sound that nods as much to the lo-fi sampling of downtempo electronic music as it does to the orchestral compositions of old Disney soundtracks.

Best pubs near Croke Park for a pre-show pint before Oasis' Dublin reunion shows
Oasis fans are just days away from the Mancunian Supersonic hitmakers taking to the stage at Croke Park for two massive sold-out shows. As the countdown ticks down, thousands of fans up and down the country, and from abroad, are packing their bucket hats and practising belting out tunes from the top of their voices. Streets are expected to be flooded with Oasis fans of all walks heading to the venue for hours of hits, and public transport most likely at full capacity during the weekend to accommodate all these fans - many will be looking for a spot to grab a drink and a bite to eat close to the show. Thankfully, there is a tonne of amazing bars and gastropubs littered just a few minutes walk to Croke Park, meaning fans who may not know the capital too well will be able to grab a few drinks and walk to Croker with no issues. Here are the top bars and gastropubs near Croke Park: Phil Ryan's Hogan Stand, North Circular Road Dubbed a "Traditional Dublin pub", with a friendly atmosphere, that is "ideal for pints with friends" and most importantly, serves a great pint of Guinness. Phil Ryan's is the perfect spot for a sup before any gig. Located on the North Circular Road, the family-owned pub is just a short 11-minute walk to Croke Park. Gaffney and Son's Pub, Fairview Strand This "family-owned" pub comes "with a lot of history", and a lot of great drinks. A beloved pub, only a short stroll from Croke Park, is one of the top rated pubs close to the stadium, and with reviews praising it as a "great bar" with staff who "know how to make a customer welcome", this place is a must. The Auld Triangle, Dorset Street Lower While this is a small bit more of a stretch to get to, at around 17 minutes to stroll, The Auld Triangle is a fitting place to have a few pints. (Image: Google Maps) Meaghers, Richmond Road Meaghers is near the Davin entrance to Croke Park, around a nine-minute stroll, and the huge pub is a handy spot to stop in for a few sociables. With a large outdoor area and seating inside, the pub caters for any concert-goers hoping for a pint before a show. Fagan's, Lower Drumcondra Road Another top spot less than 20 minutes away from Croker, and with a sheltered smoking area, Fagan's is usually full to the brim with concert-goers. Fagan's is a gastro-pub, so if you were hoping to grab some grub as well as drinks, this is the spot for you. Clonliffe House, Ballybough The Clonliffe House in Ballybough is often used by crowds ahead of a match or show in Croke Park. Called a "great pub with excellent staff" and an "excellent place for a few beers" before a show, Clonliffe House, which is only an eight-minute stroll, may be the perfect place to visit. Tickets for the Oasis reunion sold out across all venues due to huge demand when they went online earlier in the year. However, there are still several options available for fans trying to snag a last-minute spot. Limited last-minute tickets can be bought from the official Ticketmaster resale site, where fans who can no longer go sell their seats, although these tend to go into and out of stock quickly. Elsewhere, resale sites like Viagogo, Vivid Seats, StubHub and Twickets are selling tickets for various dates, although fans should always bear in mind that many official sites, such as Ticketmaster and Live Nation, discourage the purchase of resale Seat Unique has some VIP tickets available offering a host of additional perks alongside access to the gig. Gay Byrne's voice lives on in incredible gaming throwback
Gay Byrne's voice has been found in an incredibly random place — a video game that is over two decades old. The legendary broadcaster and former Late Late Show host wore many hats throughout his illustrious career — from hosting the Rose of Tralee to The Meaning of Life before his passing in 2019. However, one overlooked portion of his career may be that he hosted the Irish version of 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' for three years from 2000-2003; and while the show was only around for a short span, it was enough to have him immortalised in the video game. Gay lent his voice for the Irish video game version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in 2000, when he hosted the show. Pic: Maxwell's Released in 2001, the game sure enough features voiceover work from Gaybo himself — and while many believed that the game was lost to the annals of history (or perhaps stuck with UK versions of the game), one person on the Ireland Subreddit shared that they found the Irish version with Gay's voice. The video saw Gay tell the player that he had 15 questions ahead of him (standard for Millionaire, to be fair), and introducing him with the first question; although the player, who was filming the game, was clearly surprised that Gay Byrne would appear in a PS1/emulator of all places — saying 'look at this, it's f***ing Gay Byrne!' People thought that the idea of Gaybo in a video game was hilarious, with one person joking that they wanted to see Gay in a TellTale style video game — with options including 'press [circle] to cut to a guest' and press triangle to interrupt a guest mid-interview (I'd play that). Pic: Maxwell's As for the iconic game show, Gay hosted the Irish version for three seasons; using Irish punts for the first round of episodes in 2001 before switching to Euros. The game was known for being incredibly difficult, as some players found themselves crashing out before even getting to the €1,000 (usually the first five are 'gimmes') — with RTÉ landing in hot water after one person answered a question 'wrong' despite it having at least two right answers. The controversy arose in 2001, when contestant Shane O'Doherty was asked where the lunula was located, with his phone-a-friend, a physician, saying that it was in the heart. However, he got the question 'wrong' when the answer they were looking for was actually in the fingernail. Gay was the most prolific presenter in Irish history, most notably taking on the Late Late Show. Tyson Fury marries for third time as he gushes over wife
Tyson Fury has lavished praise on his wife Paris as he gave fans a glimpse into their third wedding ceremony. The pair chose to renew their vows during a romantic getaway to France, accompanied by their seven children. The couple first tied the knot in 2008 when Paris was just 19 and Tyson was 21. They decided to say 'I do' once more in April 2013, followed by another ceremony this week. Joining the joyous occasion were their children, Venezuela, 15, Prince John James, 13, Prince Tyson II, eight, Valencia, seven, Prince Adonis Amaziah, six, Athena, three and Prince Rico, who is just under two. This comes after Princess Andre declared her independence from her parents following a public spat with Katie Price. Former heavyweight world champion Tyson announced the delightful news on social media, sharing: "Paris and I got married again third time lucky. We had the most beautiful day in sof [sharing a French flag emoji] it holds a lot of special memories for us." He has been effusive about Paris in a series of online posts following their latest vow renewal ceremony. Tyson posted a video of Paris enjoying a swim in crystal clear waters before lounging on a surfboard with their daughter Venezuela, reports the Mirror. Paris has stood by Tyson's side throughout the peaks and valleys of his boxing career, as well as during his struggles with excessive drinking and substance abuse from late 2015 onwards. Tyson has openly acknowledged he hasn't been an ideal spouse over the years. "I've not been the best husband in the world," he confessed during his appearance on Gary Neville's programme The Overlap. "I've been far from it. "I've not been the best person in the world," he added. "I've been far from it but I'm happy that I'm back on track and everything's running smooth again. "And to get a woman who's been with you all that time and gone through the bulls***. The good times and the bad times. [For her] to still be there when you don't want to be and when you're being forced away and you're being pushed out, that takes a very strong individual. And like I say, without having that person, [I would] probably want to be dead anyway."
