Gunnar Nelson was set to fight twice in the same year for the first time since 2019 when he was matched up against Neil Magny for a UFC 318 scrap. That welterweight fight, which was to take place on the preliminary card of the Holloway vs. Poirier 3 headlined event, is off after Nelson suffered a hamstring injury that will leave him unable to compete on July 19 from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. Nelson (19-6-1) fought for the first time in over two years in March when he faced Kevin Holland at the 02 Arena in London on a UFC Fight Night card. Holland won that fight, beating Nelson via unanimous decision. The loss ended Nelson's two-fight winning streak.
Octagon Update was the first to report the news of Nelson's withdrawal from the figh card.
Magny (29-13) is riding the first two-fight losing skid of his career since he dropped back-to-back fights to Sergio Moraes and Seth Baczynski in 2013. Magny, who has been with the UFC since that same year, has been knocked out in the first round his past two trips to the Octagon, falling to Michael Morales in August 2024 and Carlos Prates in November 2024. Before those losses, Magny was on a 4-3 run, alternating wins and losses in those seven contests.
'Maybe some of you have heard. I've had to withdraw from my fight with Neil Magny on July 19 due to a hamstring injury,' Nelson said on social media. 'I won't get into any crazy details about the injury but I'll tell you it's a two-part injury, so there is a tear in one of the muscles in the hamstring, which is a Grade 2b injury. It's not too bad, so it's possibly something that we could have worked with.
'However, the second injury is on the tendon inside the muscle, which is a full thickness tear, so a Grade 4c injury and that's a more serious one. Basically, I'm absolutely useless when it comes to any type of grappling scenarios. I'm not able to wrestle or grapple or kick and apparently it will be another eight weeks at least until I can comfortably have any type of grappling training at full speed. At least eight weeks.'
The UFC has not indicated if Magny will remain on UFC 318: Holloway vs. Poirier 3 with a replacement opponent. Forbes UFC 318 Holloway Vs. Poirier 3: Undefeated Newcomer Saves Prelim Fight By Trent Reinsmith

Mimi Rhodes sinks hole-in-one off another golf ball at Women's British Open

Mimi Rhodes, you wizard. Tip your cap. On Sunday, whether it was designed or not, the young Ladies European Tour golfer masterfully played the par-3, 214-yard Hole 3 during the 2025 AIG Women's British Open at Royal Porthcawl in Porthcawl, Wales, for a hole-in-one. Rhodes' ace, however, didn't come without some help, as it ricocheted off Stephanie Kyriacou's ball that was placed inches away from the hole to bounce in. Chelsea sign 19-year-old Netherlands defender Jorrel Hato from Ajax

Chelsea have completed the signing of Netherlands defender Jorrel Hato from Ajax in a deal worth a reported £37million. The 19-year-old, who has been capped six times by his country, has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge. He becomes the Blues' eighth signing of the summer transfer window. 'I'm very excited, I'm so happy to be here,' Hato, who can operate in central defence or at left-back, told the Premier League club's website. 'I thought a lot about my future and wanted to take the next step in my career. Chelsea is the best place for me to do that so I'm very happy.' Hato joined Ajax's academy from hometown club Sparta Rotterdam in 2018 and signed his first professional contract aged 16 four years later. He scored four goals in 111 appearances for the Eredivisie giants, with his international debut coming as a substitute in a 6–0 win against Gibraltar in November 2023. Club World Cup champions Chelsea begin the new top-flight season on Sunday, August 17 at home to London rivals Crystal Palace.

Miyu Yamashita of Japan wins the Women's British Open for her first major title

PORTHCAWL, Wales (AP) — Miyu Yamashita of Japan captured her first major title Sunday when she withstood a charge by Charley Hull by not making a bogey until the outcome of the Women's British Open was no longer in doubt. She closed with a 2-under 70 for a two-shot victory. Yamashita holed two big par putts on the back nine at Royal Porthcawl, the last one when Hull had closed to within one shot of the lead. Hull started the final round three shots behind. She holed a 20-foot birdie putt on the 14th to get within one shot. But the English star hit into a pot bunker off the tee at the 16th and did well to make bogey. She made another bogey on the 17th and had to settle for a 69 to tie for second with Minami Katsu of Japan. Japanese players now have won four of the last nine majors in women's golf. Mao Saigo won the first major of the year at the Chevron Championship. ___ AP golf:
