In a tragic incident reported on Sunday, a 17-year-old student preparing for the national medical entrance examination (NEET) in Kota, Rajasthan, allegedly took their own life. The incident occurred in the Parshvnath Puram area under the Kunhadi police station's jurisdiction, casting a somber shadow over the day before the crucial examination.Police officials stated that the girl, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, was discovered hanging on Saturday night. She was immediately rushed to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival."The 17-year-old girl hanged herself on Saturday night. After receiving the information, we reached the spot and took her to the hospital, where she was declared dead," confirmed Narendra Singh, a head constable with Kunhadi police, to the press."Her body has been shifted to the mortuary, where a post-mortem will be conducted," he added.According to Station House Officer (SHO) Arvind Bhardwaj, the deceased, who hailed from the Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh, was living in Kota with her parents and younger brother. He noted that the alleged suicide occurred the night before the NEET examination scheduled for Sunday.The SHO further explained that at the time of the incident, the girl's younger brother was downstairs in another room, while her parents were away from their residence."We are further looking into the matter," he stated.Authorities have indicated that more details regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident are pending investigation.This distressing event unfolded just a day before the NEET UG 2025 examination, a nationwide test administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Lakhs of aspiring medical students across the country are participating in the examination on Sunday, vying for admissions to MBBS, BDS, and other undergraduate medical programs. Scenes from various examination centers earlier in the day showed candidates gathering amidst stringent security measures.On Saturday, the NTA had affirmed that all necessary arrangements had been finalized to ensure the safe and secure conduct of the examination, with state governments placed on high alert.This emphasis on security follows the NEET-UG 2024 controversy, which involved accusations of leaked question papers, inflated scores, and legal challenges concerning grace marks, leading to widespread public outcry and judicial scrutiny.This year, the NTA has asserted that it has taken "all measures" to guarantee the integrity of the exam.

Jaipur: City police Sunday said they are investigating the possibility of a larger exam cheating racket following the arrest of a final-year MBBS student from AIIMS Jodhpur, a medical intern, and an ayurvedic practitioner in connection with the NEET-UG 2020 impersonation case. The accused include Sachin Gaura (22), a student of AIIMS Jodhpur, Ajit Gaura (30), a medical intern at a govt college in Bharatpur, and Subhash Saini (33), an ayurvedic practitioner who has a prior record of cheating and impersonation-related offences. They were arrested on June 6. Police said Sachin allegedly paid Rs 60 lakh to Saini to facilitate the scheme, which helped him bypass the competitive entrance process and secure admission at AIIMS. The admit card for the NEET UG 2020 exam carried Ajit's photograph instead of Sachin's, allowing another individual, likely Ajit, to appear for the exam on his behalf. Sachin went on to secure 667 marks, helping him to take admission with an All-India Rank of 1,443. DCP (West) Amit Kumar said the role of Saini is central to the case and that his network of accomplices is currently being tracked. NEET aspirant falls from hostel stairs, dies
Kota: A 17-year-old boy from Madhya Pradesh who was preparing for NEET-UG in Kota died after falling down stairs from the second floor of his hostel building in Vigyan Nagar police station area Sunday morning, police said. The teenager, a resident of Vidisha in MP, had arrived in Kota for NEET-UG preparations about 15-20 days ago. He had enrolled in a coaching institute and was residing in a hostel room. According to Vigyan Nagar police, the boy slipped and fell down the stairs after coming out of the bathroom. He fell all the way down to the ground floor and suffered critical head injuries. He was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment about an hour later, police said. The body has been kept in the mortuary of MBS hospital. The boy's family members were informed and the postmortem will be conducted after their arrival, police said.
