20 Pakistani Soldiers Killed In 12 Hours In Balochistan As Rebels Ambush Military Checkposts
A new wave of unrest has emerged in Balochistan as armed attacks were carried out on Pakistani security forces in the Awaran, Quetta, and Kalat districts.
Recent attacks by Baloch freedom fighters have resulted in the deaths of 20 personnel, including a senior officer, Major Rab Nawaz.
The province has long seen unrest, driven by anger over resource extraction, lack of political representation, and heavy militarisation.
According to sources, Baloch independence activists are suspected of being involved in these attacks; however, no group has claimed responsibility for them yet.
The latest attacks have once again put the spotlight on Balochistan's fragile security environment, where periodic armed rebellions continue to test Islamabad's control over the mineral-rich region.
Security forces have launched an operation in the affected areas, and a search for the attackers is underway. The situation remains tense, with intense fear and panic among the people.

Kulgam op being wound up: Officials
SRINAGAR: The 11-day-long anti-terror operation in the forests of south Kashmir's Kulgam district was being wound up, with no contact having been established with terrorists in the past 48 hours, officials said Tuesday. 'There has been no exchange of fire since Saturday,' a senior Army official confirmed. A senior police official said, 'The operation has now entered a low-key, subdued phase. We cannot, however, say that it has been called off entirely.' Top military commanders and police officers had been monitoring the operation. This was one of the longest anti-terror operations in recent years. Two soldiers from the Army's elite counter-insurgency unit — Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh, both from Punjab — fell to terrorists' bullets; one local terrorist was shot dead, and 10 security personnel were injured in the operation. The encounter broke out on August 1 in Akhal Khulsan forests when a joint team of security forces was conducting a cordon-and-search operation based on intelligence inputs about the presence of three to five ultras in the area. The combing party came under fire, triggering a gunfight in which one local terrorist was killed. The other suspects managed to escape, taking advantage of the thick forests and deep ravines, prompting one of the largest searches in the area, with security forces deploying drones for aerial surveillance. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The 5 Books Warren Buffett Recommends You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo During the operation, intermittent firing and blasts were heard. The two Armymen were killed in a fierce gunfight on Saturday morning, taking the death toll of security personnel killed in anti-terror operations in J&K this year to 16 — three in Kashmir Valley and 13 in Jammu division, including three casualties due to Pakistani firing during escalated tensions between both countries following Operation Sindoor. After the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, security forces have so far killed 14 terrorists in Kashmir this year, including three top Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives linked to the Pahalgam attack who were shot dead in Srinagar on July 28.

US move on BLA linked to its mining interests in Balochistan
Synopsis The U.S. designation of the Baloch Liberation Army as a Foreign Terrorist Organization strengthens Pakistan's position against Baloch activists and potentially paves the way for American mining firms to access rare earth deposits in Balochistan. This move, coinciding with increased US-Pakistan trade and high-level visits, could also impact China's economic interests in the region, particularly the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The move by the USA to declare Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) not only strengthens Field Marshal Asim Munir's hands against Baloch political activists but can also facilitate the presence of American mining firms in Pakistan's biggest province that reportedly has rare earth and the USA, ever since the warming of ties under Trump 2.0, have held dialogues on mining Pakistan's rare earth. In fact, this has been one of elements that contributed to the strengthening of US-Pakistan ties over the past six it appears, may have convinced the Trump administration that controlling BLA is essential for harnessing "critical minerals" in the province. Critics argue that the USA may even put boots on the ground in Balochistan akin to Afghanistan but that might make the situation on the ground messy. Americans might be targets of locals who understand topography better and history may repeat itself like Afghanistan, according to diplomatic locals in Balochistan have repeatedly targeted Chinese-funded projects and engineers as they felt that Beijing has exploited the region without any benefits for locals and that their sovereignty is being compromised. China may welcome any action against BLA but it remains to be seen how it reacts to American commercial or security presence in Balochistan as that may impact the China Pakistan Economic Corridor passing through Balochistan. Gwadar port is also located in Balochistan. Observers are keeping a close watch if Pakistan, a current non-permanent member of the UNSC, moves the council armed with the US decision on BLA. It may be a rare occasion when both China and the USA support Pakistan on the issue in the council. However, BLA cannot be designated under the 1267 sanctions committee as it does not have links to Al Qaeda or associated US designation of BLA coincides with Munir's visit to Washington and follows a recent US-Pakistan trade agreement.
