Calvin Harris, 'Smoke the Pain Away'
Calvin Harris walks down the dirt road into country music with 'Smoke the Pain Away,' an acoustic guitar and harmonica-heavy ode to trying to numb heartbreak with a hodgepodge of controlled substances. When the Scottish hitmaker teased the track earlier this month, it was unclear if or how any electronic elements would be incorporated, but while the song is still a departure for Harris, it does contain dance DNA with a flickery, high BPM beat that adds extra verve and bounce and helps the song ride the line between the two genres.
Featuring Harris' own plaintive vocals, the song is another pretty undeniable earworm from one of dance's foremost hitmakers. It also comes days after the announcement that Harris will play the first ever double residency at Ushuaïa in Ibiza, where he'll perform on both Tuesdays and Fridays this summer. In keeping with the country theme. this mega-club is not too far from the sprawling farm Harris has on the island. '
Sub Focus & bbyclose, 'On & On'
It's a big week for Sub Focus fans, the with U.K. heavyweight releasing his first new single of the year with 'On & On,' which extends his reputation as an essential master of drum and bass. The hypnotic song features a long mid-track bridge built largely around vocals from bbyclose, with the song altogether adding fuel to a run that's included Sub Focus' 2024 John Summit collab 'Go Back.' Following his sold out show at London's Alexandra Palace last week, he announced this week that he's bringing this same Circular Sound setup — which features him playing from the center of a halo of lights — to New York and Los Angeles this fall.
Cassian, Script & Belladonna, 'Where I'm From'
It's not a surprising that Cassian got not one but two slots opening for Anyma's Sphere residency, given that Australian producer and mixing engineer's sound sound falls squarely into the grandly-sized melodic techno style preferred by Anyma and many of the artists surrounding him. 'Where I'm From' is a prime specimen of the genre, with Cassian and his co-producers Script and Belladonna weaving together an urgent production, with stuttering vocals and ominous choral singing, into a straight-up banger that's right out of an action movie.
Myd, 'The Wizard'
French producer Myd returns with a pair of new tracks, 'Song for You' and 'The Wizard,' with the latter being a warm, propulsive and very soulful fusion of disco and tribal house that just feels good on the ears. Out via Ed Banger Records and Because Music, the singles follow Myd's slot DJ-ing the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris and also comes after a marathon week-long Twitch stream from the producer's house in that same city, a segment of which you can see here.
DJ E-Clyps, 'Gitit'
The always reliable DJ E-Clyps returns with his fifth single of the year, 'Gitit.' The track balances a cool, bouncy, nearly future house production with E-Clyps' own vocals, a ode to being in the club and appreciating the kind of woman with 'pretty super eyes and those super juicy thighs' — lyrics he delivers in a laid-back staccato. 'Gitit' is out on Blacklight Factory, the label E-Clyps founded in partnership with Empire Dance and launched last month.
Catz 'n Dogz & Nala, 'Dance'
The Polish duo return with the noisy, kind of giddily abrasive electro-punk track 'Dance' a call to arms for dancefloor self expression. 'We wanted to create a track that could be played when you're angry, or just if you need to release that pressure valve. Something with pure energy' says the duo's Greg Demiañczuk. This one is just that, with its strident vocals courtesy of Miami-based artist Nala, a regular Catz & Dogs collaborator who's also opening for John Summit tomorrow (March 15) at Billboard Presents THE STAGE at SXSW in Austin, Texas.

Halle Berry slips into red lingerie on tropical birthday holiday

Halle Berry didn't let a few clouds damper her tropical birthday trip. Berry, 59, made the most of the gloomy weather and enjoyed a seaside swim with a massive inflatable yellow duck. The Oscar-winning actress slipped into a red lacy Uwila Warrior set to splash in the water in the private pool at her over-the-water villa. The "Catwoman" star floated on the water wearing a flower crown while sipping on a cup of coffee days after her Aug. 14 birthday. "Making the most of a cloudy day," Berry captioned the series of photos shared online. Earlier in the week, Berry shared a few glimpses of her tropical getaway with musician boyfriend Van Hunt. Berry looked completely at ease wearing a gold Monday Swimwear bikini as she sipped on a coconut while overlooking the water. "Phew…! cooking, cleaning and mothering," she captioned the post, seemingly referencing recent comments made by her ex-husband, David Justice, during his Aug. 7 appearance on Matt Barnes' "All the Smoke" podcast. On the podcast, Justice explained that his understanding of relationships "wasn't vast," and he believed at the time that a wife "should cook, clean, [and be] traditional, you know? "Then, I'm thinking, 'OK, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with?'" he explained. "At that time, as a young guy — she don't cook, don't clean, don't really seem, like, motherly, and then we start having issues." Justice and Berry married in 1993 and divorced more than four years later. Berry filed for divorce in April 1996, citing "irreconcilable differences." Justice filed his own divorce papers two weeks later. It was made official in June 1997. During his sitdown on the podcast, Justice pointed out that Berry asked him to marry her after a few months of dating. "There really wasn't a lot of negative attention until I decided to leave her in 1996," the former Braves outfielder said. "… She asked me to marry her after knowing me for five months. I said, 'OK' because I couldn't say no … but I don't know if my heart was really into it." Berry and Justice's divorce was finalized in 1997. She has two children – daughter Nahla with ex Gabriel Aubry, and son Maceo with ex Olivier Martinez. The "Die Another Day" actress revealed on Instagram in 2020 that she was in a new relationship with musician Van Hunt. While the couple has been dating for five years, there's no rush to get married. "I put out the proposal, and it's still on hold as you can see," Hunt told in June during a joint interview with Berry. "It's just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her." Berry admitted her past relationships influenced her decision to wait out another marriage. "Well, I've been married three times. Van has been married once, and so no, we don't feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don't," Berry said.

Radiohead's Huge Week On The Charts — And It's All Thanks To One Song

Radiohead is having a fantastic week on the charts in the United Kingdom, where the English rock band hails from. The group has two singles bouncing back onto the nation's most competitive songs ranking, and interest in its Grammy-winning discography is growing as it delivers only its second-ever live set, Hail to the Thief (Live Recordings 2003–2009). Three different albums by Radiohead appear on various charts in the U.K. at the moment. All three titles make a home on at least a trio tallies apiece, with one managing to live on four – and they're all growing in popularity again. OK Computer Stands Out as Radiohead's Biggest Winner OK Computer jumps to No. 66 on the Official Albums chart this week, while also soaring into the top 20 on the Official Physical Albums and Official Albums Sales lists. The decades-old alternative set even returns to the top 10 on the Official Vinyl Albums ranking. The Bends and In Rainbows Both The Bends and In Rainbows can also be found on the Official Albums Sales, Official Physical Albums, and Official Vinyl Albums charts, though OK Computer is the only Radiohead project to find space on the all-encompassing albums roster. The Bends is the bigger winner of the two, with both sets living inside the top 40 on all lists. 'Let Down' Pushes Radiohead's Catalog North Radiohead's entire charting discography is climbing largely thanks to the virality of 'Let Down.' That album cut, originally featured on OK Computer, became a hit seemingly out of nowhere earlier this year after spearing like wildfire on TikTok. The continued success of the track has propelled OK Computer higher and reignited interest in all things Radiohead, lifting more than just OK Computer itself. 'Let Down' and 'Creep' Return 'Let Down' and 'Creep' — two of Radiohead's most successful songs — both return to the Official Singles chart. This time around, 'Let Down' reenters the tally at No. 88, just a few spots beneath its No. 85 peak, while 'Creep,' arguably the band's most familiar composition, lands at No. 95. Both tracks are also growing on the Official Singles Streaming chart, lifting to Nos. 62 and 68, respectively.

Halle Berry throws shade at ex David Justice's divorce comments in cheeky birthday post

If Halle Berry has learned anything in her nearly six decades, it's how to take criticism in stride. The Oscar-winning actress, whose ex-husband David Justice opened up about their 90s divorce in a recent interview, seemingly responded to her former spouse's remarks in a cheeky Instagram post on Aug. 14, which coincided with her 59th birthday. Berry shared a series of photos from her birthday celebration, which included festive snaps of the actress lounging seaside in a bikini, spending time with boyfriend Van Hunt and enjoying a slice of chocolate cake. "Phew…! cooking, cleaning and mothering," Berry captioned the post. Berry's social media comment appeared to be a callout addressing Justice's remarks from his "All the Smoke" podcast appearance, during which he reflected on the couple's high-profile relationship (Berry and Justice were married from 1993 to 1997.) "She asked me to marry her after knowing me for five months," Justice said on the Aug. 7 episode. "I don't know if my heart was really into it. But I didn't want to make her feel bad and say no. I was just in the moment, it caught me off-guard." Halle Berry's ex David Justice opens up: Baseball veteran reveals stunning reason for ending marriage David Justice reveals reason for Halle Berry divorce Justice added that he didn't face "a lot of negative attention" until he separated from Berry in 1996. Explaining the reasoning for their split, the former Atlanta Braves outfielder said the state of Berry's domestic life was a red flag for him. "I'm looking at my mom. I'm a Midwest guy. So in my mind, I'm thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean," Justice said. "And I'm thinking, 'OK, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with?' And at that time, as a young guy, she don't cook, don't clean, don't really seem, like, motherly." But looking back, Justice said he could have handled his divorce with Berry differently. "I didn't ease out" of the relationship, the baseball veteran reflected, adding that "my knowledge and my understanding and my wisdom around relationships just wasn't vast." "That girl really did love me, and I can see why she would be so mad at me," Justice said. "Because imagine if you really love somebody, and they tell you they want to break up, and there's nothing you can say to get them back. That had to have been tough on her." Berry is in a long-term relationship with Hunt, a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter. Her marriage to Justice was in the 90s. She then married Eric Benét (2001 to 2005) and Olivier Martinez (2013 to 2016). She has two children: Nahla, 17, whose dad is ex-partner Gabriel Aubry, and son Maceo, 11, whom she had with Martinez.
