Prison officer brutally crushed beneath runaway cement lorry in Melaka
MELAKA, May 16 — A Malaysian Prisons Department officer was killed after being run over by a cement lorry that reportedly suffered brake failure at a traffic light junction along the Sungai Udang-Paya Rumput-Ayer Keroh (SPA) route yesterday.
Sergeant Amal Nurlidar Ghazali, 42, a prison warder, died at the scene after she was trapped beneath the lorry in the 5.50pm incident, Harian Metro (HM) reported.
Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the victim had stopped her Yamaha Ego Solariz at the traffic lights when the lorry, driven by a 49-year-old man travelling in the same direction, lost control.
He said the driver swerved to avoid other vehicles, veering onto the road shoulder before hitting and running over the woman.
'As a result of the incident, the victim's leg was crushed and she sustained serious injuries to several parts of her body, including her face,' he was quoted as saying.
Firefighters from the Masjid Tanah Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the scene to extricate the victim's body from beneath the lorry. Her remains were later sent to the Forensic Department of Melaka Hospital for a post-mortem.
Christopher told HM that initial findings suggest brake failure caused the crash, which was recorded on a witness's dashboard camera. He added that the driver tested negative for drugs and would be remanded at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court this morning.
The lorry has been seized for inspection by the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom), and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

A video of the capsized boat being towed to the shore has since been widely circulated on social media.

The man grew confident in the scheme and made 103 transactions to 31 different accounts totalling RM1,532,563 from Dec 2 to March 8, and realised he was scammed when he failed to withdraw RM4,131,671 through the app but was asked instead to provide additional capital to be able to withdraw his profits. SHAH ALAM, June 7 — Three people, including a child, died after a boat capsized in the waters off Tanjung Harapan, Port Klang, yesterday. Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director, Maritime Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh, said the incident occurred at around 5 pm and involved six locals, aged between three and 50. He said two other victims, a married couple, were reported missing, while one victim was rescued by fishermen. The search for the two missing individuals continued this morning, with the firefighters conducting diving operations. 'The deceased victims are Darren Gan, a three-year-old son of the missing couple, and Cheu Son Hin, 50, both found in the front compartment of the boat,' he added. 'Also killed was Fong Yong Sen, 29, a friend of the couple, while another victim, Chang Yan Qin Alvin, 17, survived,' he said in a statement here today. He added that the missing victims were identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife, Careen Man, 29, both from Klang Utama. Abdul Muhaimin said initial investigations found that the boat likely lost control before capsizing. He added that his team activated the rescue operation at 5.16 pm after receiving information about the incident.
