Haramain High-Speed Railway Offers 1.6 Million Seats During Ramadan
As a key component of Saudi Arabia's railway network expansion, the Haramain High-Speed Railway is recognized as one of the world's fastest electric railways, reaching speeds of up to 300 km/h. Equipped with advanced signaling and communication systems, the railway was inaugurated in 2018 as a major infrastructure project in the Middle East, designed to offer safe, efficient, and comfortable transportation for pilgrims, Umrah performers, and general travelers.
To manage the heightened demand during Ramadan, Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), in partnership with the operating company, has implemented a comprehensive plan to ensure smooth operations. The railway enables travelers to commute between Makkah and Madinah in just about 2 hours and 20 minutes.
Haramain High-Speed Railway
The Haramain High-Speed Railway features five strategically located stations in Makkah, Madinah, and Jeddah. Among these, the King Abdulaziz Airport Station stands out as the world's largest airport-connected railway station, spanning over 105,000 square meters and housing six train platforms. This station significantly reduces road congestion around the airport by providing direct rail access to various destinations.
The railway operates a fleet of 35 modern electric trains, each comprising 13 cars with a total of 417 seats. Passengers can choose between business and economy class cabins, with additional amenities such as a cafeteria, entertainment screens, and accessibility features for individuals with special needs. Business class travelers enjoy premium hospitality services, while economy class passengers have access to food carts for refreshments.
