Anaheim police release photos of car involved in deadly hit-and-run crash

CBS News6 hours ago
Anaheim police have released images of a car they believe was involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash in early August as they continue searching for the suspect.
It happened a little before midnight on Aug. 9 near Knott Avenue and Orange Avenue, according to a news release from the Anaheim Police Department.
"When emergency personnel arrived, they located a pedestrian in the roadway with severe traumatic injury," the release said. "The pedestrian was immediately transported to a hospital in critical condition."
They died three days later, after succumbing to the injuries sustained in the crash, police said. The victim has not yet been identified, but police say that they were a 58-year-old male resident of Stanton.
Investigators believe the man was walking across Knott Avenue, just north of Orange Avenue, when he was struck. Instead of stopping to help, the driver fled from the area.
They've released photos of the car, a red or maroon sedan, that were captured from surveillance camera footage in the area.
Anyone who knows more is urged to contact investigators at (714) 765-1474.

Chaos at Milan Malpensa Airport after passenger ‘set fire to check-in desk'

A major European airport has been forced to close off parts of its terminal after a fire broke out at a check-in desk. Part of Milan Malpensa Airport's Terminal One was closed after a man reportedly set fire to the check-in area, according to Varese News. Travellers were seen queuing outside the building as emergency crews worked to battle the flames, which filled the terminal with thick smoke. After first setting fire to a waste bin, the man damaged check-in desks and information screens with a hammer, the local outlet reported. According to Corriere Di Novara, the suspect set the fire using a flammable liquid. A SEA employee noticed the rising smoke and intervened while he was destroying screens between desks 12 and 13, Varese News added. Border Police officers soon arrived and restrained the man, while staff from airport security company ICTS worked to put out the flames. The SEA employee who intervened was injured and treated by emergency medical services. The hammer was taken by Polaria officers, who are now investigating the incident and the attacker's motives. MLB suspends Victor Robles 10 games for throwing bat at pitcher

Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles was suspended for 10 games after he threw a bat at a pitcher while on a minor league rehab assignment in the Pacific Coast League. Robles was playing for the Tacoma Rainiers when a ball from Las Vegas Aviators pitcher Joey Estes came high and inside. The ball went off the bat, and as Robles twirled around the catcher, he hurled the bat toward the mound. Major League Baseball announced the suspension on Tuesday. Jerry Dipoto, the Mariners' president of baseball operations, told reporters before the team's game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday that Robles was set to be recalled next week but the incident and subsequent suspension changed their plans. He apologized in a post on his Instagram Stories on Monday. "I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize for my recent reaction on the field," he wrote. "I let my frustration get the best of me, and I understand how that may have affected not just the game, but the energy and respect we all work so hard to maintain. "Coming off a long rehab and being away from the game for most of the season has been physically and mentally challenging. Adding to that, the recent passing of my mother has been incredibly hard, and I've been doing my best to hold it together. That's not an excuse, but some context I feel you deserve to understand where I'm coming from." The suspension will be effective on the first day Robles returns to the team's active roster. He's not allowed to play in any game, including additional rehab games in the minors, once the suspension begins. Robles is appealing the disciplinary action.
