Pakistan inducts Chinese Z-10ME attack helicopters in defense modernization push
The state-of-the-art, all-weather platform is capable of precision strike operations day and night, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military's media wing.
Equipped with advanced radar systems and cutting-edge electronic warfare suites, the Z-10ME helicopter significantly enhances Pakistan's capability to engage diverse aerial and ground threats.
Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir oversaw the induction ceremony at Multan Garrison and expressed satisfaction over Pakistan's readiness to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
'The COAS (chief of army staff) witnessed firepower demonstration by the newly inducted Z-10ME helicopters at the Muzaffargarh Field Firing Ranges,' the ISPR said in a statement.
'The induction of this potent system marks a major leap in the modernization of Army Aviation, reinforcing its integrated battlefield response and capacity to deliver decisive effects against potential adversaries.'
The development comes after reports of India planning to launch a $234 million incentive program for civil and military drone makers to reduce their reliance on imported components and counter rival Pakistan's program built on support from China and Turkiye.
It follows a four-day military conflict between Pakistan and India that saw them attack each other with fighter jets, missiles, drones and artillery. The conflict was triggered by an attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, which New Delhi blamed on Pakistan. Islamabad denied the allegation and called for an independent probe into the assault.
In his interaction with Pakistan Army soldiers, Field Marshal Munir lauded their exceptional morale, professionalism and combat proficiency, according to the ISPR.
He appreciated the successful demonstration of combined arms tactics, reflecting the army's firm resolve to maintain a 'decisive edge in the evolving character of warfare.'
In recent months, Pakistan and China have resolved to continue their bilateral cooperation for regional peace, development and stability.
For China, Pakistan is a strategic and economic ally. Beijing is investing over $60 billion to build infrastructure, energy and other projects in Pakistan as part of its China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
India and China, on the other hand, are competing regional giants and nuclear powers and widely seen as long-term strategic rivals.
On Friday, Field Marshal Munir described his country's strategic partnership with China as 'pivotal' for regional peace and stability at an event held at Pakistan's military headquarters to mark the 98th founding anniversary of the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
'The Field Marshal highlighted that the Pakistan-China strategic relationship exemplifies mutual trust, unwavering support and shared commitment,' the ISPR said.
'He stressed that despite shifting strategic dynamics, the friendship between the two nations has remained steadfast and unshakable.'

BANGKOK: Myint Swe, who became Myanmar's acting president under controversial circumstances after the military seized power from the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi more than four years ago, died on Thursday, the military said. South Korea, US to conduct major joint military drills
South Korea and the United States will conduct major joint military drills starting on August 18, their military officials said on Thursday, announcing an annual defensive exercise that has been a source of tension with North Korea. Pakistan, Iraq eye increased trade, religious tourism through ferry service agreement
KARACHI: Pakistan and Iraq have agreed to strengthen their maritime cooperation by exploring new sea routes after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to launch a ferry service between the port cities of Umm Qasr and Gwadar, Pakistan's maritime affairs ministry said this week. Islamabad this week granted its first-ever ferry service license to an international operator, Sea Keepers, for routes connecting Pakistan with Iran and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Pakistan's Maritime Affairs Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the move would boost regional connectivity, religious tourism and economic activity via sea routes. The agreement to launch the ferry service between Umm Qasr and Gwadar was reached in a meeting between Maritime Affairs Minister Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, and a three-member delegation from the Iraqi Embassy in Islamabad, led by its deputy head of mission, Abdulqadir Sulyman Alhimiri. 'Welcoming the initiative, Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry described it as 'a new chapter' in bilateral relations, emphasizing that maritime passenger and cargo links could build on expanding economic ties and religious travel between the two countries,' Pakistan's maritime affairs ministry said in a statement on Wednesday. Chaudhry highlighted that Islamabad can meet Baghdad's potassium sulphate needs through the ferry service, noting that a manufacturing facility is present in the southwestern Gwadar Free Zone. 'The ferry connection can leverage our shared cultural and religious bonds while unlocking new business opportunities,' the minister said. He underscored the potential for increased port activity and expansion of the supply chain under Pakistan's blue economy strategy. Chaudhry informed the Iraqi delegation that Pakistan was also working to set up ferry routes with Iran and GCC countries. He said similar arrangements with Iraq could complement these plans, fostering a regional maritime network that meets both economic and strategic goals. 'The minister proposed expanding goods trade by boosting Pakistani exports of medicines, meat and rice to Iraq while increasing Iraqi oil imports into Pakistan, which could help elevate bilateral trade well beyond current levels,' the ministry said. Alhimiri expressed 'strong support' for the minister's proposals, calling the maritime sector a 'key enabler' for future collaboration, the Pakistani ministry said. Chaudhry said the proposed ferry link would serve as a vital corridor to access broader Asian markets for Iraq, reduce transportation costs, improve logistics, and significantly boost bilateral trade between the two countries.
