Fahadh Faasil On Saying No To Alejandro Inarritu's Film: ‘Didn't Feel The Fire'

Fahadh Faasil clarified that it was not exactly a rejection but more of a realisation that he was not the right fit for the role. Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil, who is winning hearts for his role in Maareesan, has opened up about an interesting chapter in his career that many fans may not know about. The actor revealed that he was once approached for an international project by none other than Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, the director behind The Revenant and Birdman. But the collaboration did not move forward and the reason? Faasil's accent. In a candid conversation with Cue Studio, Fahadh Faasil shared that things had reached the stage of a video call with Inarritu himself. The actor explained, 'It was not like he rejected me, but it was the accent that he was concerned about. To perfect the accent, I was told to go to the US and stay there for three or four months. But they weren't ready to pay for that. That's why I skipped it. Otherwise, I would have gone running. The commercial aspects of it wouldn't have worked out. I didn't feel that kind of fire for it to do so much for my accent." Fahadh Faasil Was Not Right Fit For Role Further in the conversation, Fahadh Faasil clarified that it was not exactly a rejection but more of a realisation that he was not the right fit for the role. 'I spoke to him on a video call. It might be during that conversation that he also realised, 'Oh, this isn't the guy I'm looking for.' Such things happen. There have been many films I lost during such meetings," he added. Fahadh Faasil On Malayalam Cinema Fahadh looks at the experience completely differently. Instead of considering it as a missed opportunity, he seems deeply content with what he has achieved through Malayalam cinema. 'All the magic in my life happened here in Malayalam. So, even in the future, if any new changes were to happen, I want them to come from Malayalam. I don't think I will leave Kerala for that. If a project emerges that redefines me in some way, I want it to be in Malayalam," Fahadh continued. While Fahadh did not reveal the name of the project, media reports have hinted that it could be Iñárritu's upcoming film starring Tom Cruise, set for a 2026 release. The film stars Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, Riz Ahmed and Sophie Wilde in the key roles. On the film front, Fahadh Faasil is now gearing up for the release of Odum Kuthira Chadum Kuthira, directed by Althaf Salim. The film, set to arrive in theatres on August 29, also stars Kalyani Priyadarshan, Lal, Vinay Forrt, Revathi Pillai and Anuraj OB. Released on July 19, the film was well-received for its simple yet fresh storytelling. Featuring Manoj Chandra and Monika in the lead roles, the movie touches upon relatable themes in a rural backdrop, striking a chord with audiences. With its theatrical success behind it, the movie is now ready for its OTT journey. Aha has announced that Kothapallilo Okappudu will stream on its platform from August 22. The project gains added significance as it is co-produced by Praveen Paruchuri along with actor Rana Daggubati, ensuring both credibility and visibility. Viewers are eager to see how the film fares in the digital space, where smaller but impactful narratives often gain renewed appreciation. The Alto Knights – Jio Hotstar – August 21 For fans of Hollywood cinema, The Alto Knights arrives on Jio Hotstar on August 21. Directed by Barry Levinson and penned by Nicholas Pileggi, the film dives deep into the gritty underworld of the 1950s. The highlight is Robert De Niro's dual performance as mob bosses Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, a feat that has already generated strong buzz. The biographical crime drama also features Debra Messing, Cosmo Jarvis, Kathrine Narducci, and Michael Rispoli in key roles. With Levinson's meticulous storytelling and Pileggi's sharp writing, The Alto Knights has been touted as a must-watch for fans of mafia dramas. The OTT debut ensures the film reaches a wider global audience, especially those fascinated by real-life crime sagas. F1 (F1: The Movie) – Prime Video & Apple TV+ – August 22 Sports drama enthusiasts are in for a treat with F1: The Movie, set to release simultaneously on Prime Video and Apple TV+ on August 22. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for Top Gun: Maverick, the film offers high-octane thrills and an emotional core. The week's OTT releases highlight the growing diversity of digital entertainment. From Tamil thrillers and Telugu dramas to Hollywood biographical and sports films, there's something for every taste.
