Set to make its debut during Monterey Car Week, Cadillac's latest show car is a high-performance 2+2 meant to raise the bar for battery-electric vehicles. Quite literally. It's an EV you could show off at the country club, then take it out on the Dakar Rally or an Extreme-E race, said Bryan Nesbitt, the global vice president of design at General Motors.
Like the earlier Cadillac Opulent Velocity concept, the new, gullwinged show car is long and wide, but stands significantly higher, with an air suspension designed to handle just about anything you could throw at it, added Brandon Vivian, the project's executive chief engineer. And it's got V-Series power which 'hint(s) at the future of Cadillac performance,' he said during a media backgrounder.
Elevated Velocity is loaded with the latest technology – including a 'Sand Vision' system that can help you see through a desert sandstorm, as well as the gloom of night. Meanwhile, the concept vehicle features next-generation autonomous driving and a biometric sensing system that can help occupants slip into a relaxed state of Zen.
Cadillac Plugged In
Cadillac currently offers five different battery-electric vehicles, from the entry-luxury Optiq to the EV version of its flagship SUV, the Escalade IQ. Elevated Velocity could take the hand-built Caddy Celestiq to new extremes, however.
There are some familiar design cues, including the concept's vertical lighting and the crossover's long front end. But the more coupe-like roofline and seamless nose 'serves as a beacon for us,' said Nesbitt, exploring what he suggests will be the next iteration of Cadillac design, dubbed the 'Art of Exhilaration.'.
The concept's 24-inch tires and that air suspension, the automaker explains, 'enables occupants to chart the most challenging terrains, while providing a refined and luxurious on-road driving experience.'
2+2+More
Officially, Cadillac calls the Elevated Velocity Concept a 2+2. But there's far more interior space than you'd find in a classic sports car or grand tourer thanks to the use of a skateboard-like platform placing key drivetrain components below the load floor.
The gullwing doors swing wide, making it easy for occupants to get in and out, whether in the front row or back. The cabin has a decidedly futuristic feel with thin, sculpted seats that might have been inspired by a Hollywood sci-fi adventure. The cabin is finished in various shades of red and features a mix of natural and sustainable materials, including a 3D-printed black crystal. The cargo compartment is fitted with a set of bespoke luggage, including one case carrying a handy outfit for desert polo.

The instrument panel is elegant yet spartan. Key instrumentation can be found in the center of the yoke-like steering wheel, and on a display built into the floating center console. That yoke, as well as the pedals, retract when the concept EV is switched to autonomous mode.
Elevate Mode
Whether driven in the desert or a rain forest, the 'extreme climatization' system filters out sand, dust and smog while compensating for dry air, sudden temperature shifts and altitude changes, Cadillac explains.
There are a variety of mode settings the driver can select, including the electric version of the high-performance V-Mode found in today's Caddy V-Series products. Elevate Mode, meanwhile, activates a next-generation autonomous driving system which, unlike today's GM Super Cruise, allows the driver to completely disengage.
As the steering wheel and pedals retract, the vehicle's biometric sensors start tracking the driver's pulse, breathing and body temperature. Ambient lighting is automatically switched to red while the seatback activates infrared therapy lighting. 'Doors are backlit to synchronize breathing and movement, furthering the emphasis on recovery.,' notes a news release, while 'a light moves forward and rearwards to aid in breathwork in conjunction with an animation displayed on the cowl to help the occupants get into the headspace for performance.'
Drivetrain
Cadillac isn't ready to talk about the underlying drivetrain in the Elevated Velocity Concept, but we can take some cues from what we're seeing with the brand's new Lyriq-V, the first all-electric V-Series package. Its twin motors produce a combined 615 horsepower and 680 pound-feet of torque, the V package can launch from 0-60 in a mere 3.3 seconds, making it the fastest stree-legal model in Cadillac history.
If that's not enough, the all-electric GMC Hummer can deliver as much as 1,160 horsepower and an astounding 13,000 pound-feet of torque. Caddy might also borrow Hummer EV's 'crab walk,' and the Escalade EV's four-wheel-steering.
Plans for the Future
'This is a real, running vehicle,' Nesbitt told a handful of journalists during a virtual briefing last week. But, like the Opulent Velocity Concept that debuted a year ago, there are no plans to put the new show car into production. But don't think of it as just a fantasy in chrome, the design chief stressed. 'This is an opportunity for Cadillac to test the waters – to see how far we can take electrification and performance -- and encourage feedback' that could influence future products. Look for the Cadillac Elevated Velocity Concept to make its debut on Saturday, August 15 at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering in Monterey, California.

Suze Orman Breaks Down Big Beautiful Bill Act Perks: $10K Car Loan Deductions, $25K Tip Exemptions, And A $1K Gift For Every Baby

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act has stirred up plenty of conversation. Financial expert Suze Orman recently detailed some of its key benefits on her "Women & Money" podcast. While she acknowledges there are many parts of the bill she hates, she encourages her listeners to focus on the practical perks that can help you keep more of your money or save on taxes. Here's a breakdown of some important highlights. Don't Miss: Would You Have Invested in eBay or Uber Early? The Same Backers Are Betting on 'Scrolling To UBI' — Deloitte's #1 fastest-growing software company allows users to earn money on their phones. You can Expanded Child Tax Credit One of the standout features of the bill is the expanded child tax credit, which Orman highlights as a vital lifeline for parents raising children under 17. "Right now, the child tax credit gives you up to $2,200 per child," she explains. Even if you owe no taxes, up to $1,700 of that amount is refundable — meaning if your tax bill is zero, the IRS will still send you a check for that portion, rather than just reducing what you owe. The credit phases out for higher earners — starting at $200,000 modified adjusted gross income for singles and $400,000 for married couples filing jointly. Importantly, the child must be a U.S. citizen living with you for more than half the year. "Do not leave money on the table," Orman advises, encouraging parents to claim this benefit if eligible. Trending: Named a TIME Best Invention and Backed by 5,000+ Users, Kara's Air-to-Water Pod Cuts Plastic and Costs — Up to $10,000 Deductible on Personal Car Loans Another notable perk is the new deduction for interest on personal auto loans. "You can now deduct up to $10,000 per year in interest on a personal auto loan as long as – there's always a catch, isn't there — the car is assembled in the United States," Suze notes. This deduction applies only if the loan is in your name and the vehicle isn't leased or used for business purposes. This benefit is good through 2028, giving car buyers a significant tax break if they finance a qualifying vehicle. Orman cautions, "Just ask, does this car qualify or not," to make sure you're taking advantage of this Tips: Up to $25,000 Exempt From Federal Income Tax For workers relying on tips, such as servers or hairdressers, the bill offers a new exemption on tip income. Up to $25,000 in tips can now be excluded from federal income taxes annually. Orman calls this "one of the biggest tax breaks you're gonna ever see," but stresses the importance of accurate record-keeping. "This really is a gift," Orman says, but reminds tip earners to track their tips, report everything honestly, and file taxes carefully. This exemption phases out for singles earning more than $150,000 and married couples filing jointly above $300,000. Note that this only applies to federal income tax; some states are considering similar exemptions, while others still tax tip income. What This Means for You Orman isn't the first to say she dislikes this new legislation, but if it's happening, she says you might as well take advantage of it. "You first have to be able to take advantage of the things that you can take advantage of and not waste money," she says. The bill's various benefits mostly expire in 2028, coinciding with a new presidential term, but until then, Orman says there are several smart moves taxpayers can make to boost their bottom line. Democrats decry move by Pentagon to pause $800 million in nearly done software projects

By Alexandra Alper WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Democrats took aim at the Trump administration after Reuters reported on Wednesday that the Navy and Air Force were poised to cancel nearly completed software projects worth over $800 million. The reason for the move was an effort by some officials at the services to steer new projects to companies like Salesforce and Palantir, in what could amount to a costly do-over. 'The Pentagon has yet to show that it had a good reason for halting these contracts in the last inning and scrapping work American tax dollars have already paid for," Democratic Senator Tim Kaine said in a statement. "If it can't show its homework, then this announcement - just days after Palantir's CEO spoke at Mike Johnson's Wyoming donor retreat - reeks of corruption.' Punchbowl reported this month that Palantir CEO Alex Karp planned to address Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson's annual big-donor retreat in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The Pentagon and Air Force did not respond to requests for comment. The Navy declined to comment. Trump officials have said the administration is striving to make the contracting process more efficient. The comments show growing concern among Democratic lawmakers over waste at the Pentagon, even as Donald Trump took office vowing to rid the government of waste and abuse. The website of the Department of Government Efficiency, the agency he created to spearhead those efforts, lists over $14 billion in Defense Department contracts it claims to have canceled. But seven months into his presidency, some of his own actions have complicated DOGE's work, from firing the Pentagon's inspector general to issuing an executive order prioritizing speed and risk-taking in defense acquisitions. 'If you're serious about cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse, the last thing you'd do is cancel $800 million in projects that are nearly ready to roll out just to turn around and steer the same work to corporations of your choosing," said Democratic Representative Maggie Goodlander, who sits on the House Armed Services Committee and served as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve. "This maneuver is an insult to taxpayers and servicemembers across America," she added. Salud Carbajal, another House Democrat who sits on the Armed Services Committee, said the behavior was part of a pattern of waste at the Pentagon under Trump. 'I understand that our military's acquisition and procurement processes aren't flawless, but this administration has repeatedly shown a blatant disregard for the responsible use of taxpayer dollars,' said Carbajal, citing "lavish" military parades and "unnecessary" troop deployments in Los Angeles. Democratic U.S. Representative Jill Tokuda, who also sits on the committee, echoed Carbajal's remarks. "Stripping away critical oversight guardrails is unnecessary and downright reckless," she said, adding that after many delays, the Pentagon was finally poised to implement military pay systems that could pass an audit. "Taxpayers should not fund sweetheart deals for the well connected."

Smart Mobility Maker

Since its inception, Alt Mobility has experienced rapid growth, deploying over 13,000 EVs and operating in more than 30 cities. Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. You're reading Entrepreneur India, an international franchise of Entrepreneur Media. When Dev Arora co-founded Alt Mobility in 2022, he had a clear goal in mind: to make electric mobility more accessible and practical for India's expanding transportation landscape. With his experience in startup innovation and a keen sense for market opportunities, Arora recognised that one of the biggest hurdles to EV adoption wasn't the technology—it was financing. "Traditional lenders weren't built for the EV revolution," Arora, Co-founder and CEO of Alt Mobility, explained. "We needed to develop a new model, one that caters to both businesses and everyday drivers." This new approach led to the creation of Alt Mobility—an EV leasing and asset management platform that goes beyond just providing vehicles. The startup has built a comprehensive ecosystem that includes maintenance, servicing, roadside assistance, and access to an extensive charging and service network. Since its inception, Alt Mobility has experienced rapid growth, deploying over 13,000 EVs and operating in more than 30 cities. With an asset under management (AUM) exceeding INR 250 crore, it now caters to both commercial fleets and individual drivers, offering flexible and cost-effective leasing solutions. "For many people, purchasing an EV feels risky," Arora noted. "We eliminate that uncertainty by providing all-inclusive plans that cover service, warranty, insurance, and even 24/7 support." At the core of Alt's offerings is its proprietary FleetOS platform, which utilises AI, IoT, and telematics to monitor vehicle health, track usage, and ensure proactive maintenance. This not only prolongs the life of the vehicles but also maximises uptime—essential for businesses that depend on having vehicles ready for revenue generation. What sets Alt Mobility apart is its Drive-to-Own model, which enables drivers to gradually shift from leasing to ownership. This approach has been particularly beneficial for individuals who lack access to traditional financing, fostering economic empowerment and long-term asset creation. "Ownership is a powerful thing, especially for those working to build their livelihoods," Arora emphasised. "We aimed to create a pathway that makes that possible." Scaling the business definitely came with its challenges. Getting customers on board with a new approach to owning and managing vehicles meant we had to focus on education and building trust. "Alt tackled this by blending innovation with robust support systems and forming partnerships throughout the EV value chain—from manufacturers to charging networks," he explained. Looking to the future, Dev sees opportunities to branch out into four-wheeled cargo vehicles and electric buses, strengthening their foothold in key markets across India and playing a crucial role in the nation's shift towards clean mobility. "The future of transportation in India is electric. We're committed to fostering a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable future for India's mobility landscape," he added. Facts:
