Aces' Nikki Vargas, Ty Ellis attend Black history panel at Las Vegas valley school
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Aces President Nikki Vargas and new Assistant Coach Ty Ellis took part in a Black history panel hosted at the Meadows School.
'For the administration to see the importance of having this type of educational programming, I wish that every school was doing this,' Nikki Vargas said.
Ellis, who is new to the Las Vegas community, added that it was refreshing to see the kids excited to learn about Black history because it reminded him of his childhood. Organized by the Black Student Alliance, the event featured Black history trivia and performances. President Lea Shapiro shared that it took several months to plan, but she is proud that she and her team successfully brought it to life.
For Shapiro seeing figures like Nikki Vargas in attendance was the highlight of the event.
'Nikki Vargas she really stepped up and showed what it meant to truly be a black woman,' Shapiro said. 'I feel like that empowered the boys but also the women too so just to see a figure like that step up and showcase their talent it's honestly amazing.'
Vargas and the Aces emphasized that supporting events like these and giving back to the community is a priority. They said they will continue to visit more schools and explore additional ways to make a positive impact.
