However, the real challenge begins when the wok gathers rust or stubborn black residue. At times, the rust is so tough that even after hours of scrubbing, it refuses to come off, leaving your hands sore and your patience tested.
But here's a simple desi method that can make your kadhai sparkle in just a minute, without the need for expensive cleaners or exhausting scrubbing. All you need is one simple white ingredient, along with a few household items. The star of this cleaning method is a piece of alum. Along with alum, you will need water, detergent powder, dishwashing liquid, and a steel scrubber or old scrub pad.
Steps To Clean The Kadhai
Place the kadhai on the stove and pour in one cup of water.
While the water heats, grind a piece of alum into a fine powder, about one teaspoon. Add the alum powder to the hot water.
Stir in one teaspoon of detergent powder and let it boil for 3-4 minutes. Foam will begin to form.
Using a spoon, spread this foamy water over the edges so the entire kadhai is soaked, allowing the rust and grime to loosen.
Turn off the stove and let the wok cool slightly. Transfer the alum water to a bowl and lightly scrub the kadhai with a steel scrubber.
Wipe it dry with a clean cloth, then rub a thin layer of mustard oil on the surface to prevent future rusting.

Snake rescued from CM's grievance cell
Bhubaneswar: Volunteers of Snake Helpline rescued a juvenile Indian rat snake during the session at the chief minister's grievance cell here on Monday. The 1ft-long reptile created panic on the premises before it was rescued and released into the wild. After spotting the snake, officials contacted Snake Helpline for assistance. Responding to the call, general secretary of Snake Helpline, Subhendu Mallik, reached the spot and caught the snake. "I received a call at 9:25am and rushed to the CM's grievance cell. It was a juvenile Indian rat snake, harmless and beneficial to the ecosystem. We ensured it was handled safely to avoid stress," Mallik said. The rescued snake was later released in a suitable habitat outside the city. "Indian rat snake (Ptyas mucosa) is a common species found across the country and plays an important role in controlling rodent populations," he added.

School adds creative touch to dolphin conservation pledge
Mangaluru: The Govt High School, Badaga Yekkar, has gone beyond merely following a directive to administer a pledge on dolphin conservation. It has turned the exercise into a full-fledged awareness campaign. However, English teacher Anith Kumar said the team wanted to give it more depth. "As soon as we received the order, we began researching dolphins in India and realised how vital their conservation is. One striking fact was that dolphins thrive only in clean water, which explains why they are found in the Brahmaputra and Ganga. However, over the years with increasing pollution, the species are facing a threat," he noted. The school prepared a multimedia presentation with videos, which teacher Ramya, coordinator of Vanasiri Eco Club, presented the same to the students. The pledge focused on respecting and protecting dolphins and their habitats, avoiding pollution of water bodies, rejecting activities that exploit these mammals, and actively supporting conservation. Students also learnt about Project Dolphin, launched on Aug 15, 2020, which aims to conserve marine and riverine dolphins through habitat protection, research, and community awareness, he said. To make the learning interactive, the school organised a drawing competition on Indian dolphins, encouraging children to explore the species further. The event held recently saw participation from about 75 students.

Indian naval ship INS Rana arrives in Sri Lankas port city of Trincomalee
Colombo, Aug 11 (PTI) The Sri Lankan Navy on Monday welcomed the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Rana, which arrived in the north-eastern port city of Trincomalee with 300 crew members on board for a four-day official visit. INS Rana is a 147-metre-long destroyer. It is commandeered by Captain KP Sreesan, the Lankan Navy said in a statement. During the ship's stay in Sri Lanka, the crew will engage in several training programmes and sporting events arranged by the Sri Lanka Navy, aimed at strengthening cooperation and fostering goodwill between the two navies, it said. 'The itinerary also includes sightseeing tours across the country. In addition, the visiting ship will conduct a yoga session and host a training visit for Lanka Navy personnel onboard, while the Sri Lanka Navy will execute simulation exercises at the Special Boat Squadron Headquarters for the ship's crew," the statement said.
