Kinghorn, Ryan promoted as Lions chase Wallabies sweep

Coach Andy Farrell has made two changes in his British and Irish Lions starting side as they seek to complete a 3-0 series sweep of the Wallabies. Scotland's Blair Kinghorn replaces James Lowe on the left wing and Irishman James Ryan replaces Ollie Chessum in the second row for the third Test in Sydney on Saturday night. Ryan become skipper Maro Itoje's third different starting Test partner in the second-row, Chessum and Joe McCarthy being the others. Chessum drops to a bench that has a six-two split between forwards and backs. Lowe, who has not played to his usual high standard, is out of the squad entirely. Owen Farrell and Alex Mitchell are the two backs on the bench, Farrell covering 10 and 12. Jac Morgan, who made the controversial clean out before the Lions' match-winning, last-gasp try in the second Test at the MCG, is again poised to come off the bench, with Tom Curry retained in the No.7 starting role. The line-up means 11 players have been chosen to start all three Tests. Farrell's men are aiming to be the first Lions squad to record an unbeaten tour since the 1974 outfit, which finished with a 13-13 draw in the third Test against the Springboks, and the first to sweep a three-Test series since the lopsided victories in Argentina in 1927. "We have put ourselves in position to finish this tour with our best performance to date and create our own piece of history," Farrell said. "Last weekend's Test match was an increadible spectacle. We are expecting another epic battle this weekend." Hooker Dan Sheehan is starting again alongside Irish teammate Tadhg Furlong, who is starting his ninth consecutive Lions Test, and said before the squad was announced that there'd be no relenting from the tourists. "We've always been pretty clear on our goals — to go unbeaten overseas and win the series 3-0," he said. "So we just need to stick to what we said." For the Lions, the halves pairing of Finn Russell and Jamison Gibson-Park has been pivotal to their success in both Tests so far, along with a consistent backrow featuring No. 8 Jack Conan and flankers Curry and Tadhg Beirne. In 2001 and 2013 the Lions lost in Melbourne after winning the first match of a three-Test series against the Wallabies and those series went to a decider in Sydney. A sweep is on the minds of both teams this time in what will be a sold-out Accor Stadium. British and Irish Lions: Hugo Keenan (Ireland), Tommy Freeman (England), Huw Jones (Scotland), Bundee Aki (Ireland), Blair Kinghorn (Scotland), Finn Russell (Scotland), Jamison Gibson-Park (Ireland); Jack Conan (Ireland), Tom Curry (England), Tadhg Beirne (Ireland), James Ryan (Ireland), Maro Itoje (England, captain), Tadhg Furlong (Ireland), Dan Sheehan (Ireland), Andrew Porter (Ireland). Reserves: Ronan Kelleher (Ireland), Ellis Genge (England). Will Stuart (England), Ollie Chessum (England), Jac Morgan (Wales), Ben Earl (England), Alex Mitchell (England), Owen Farrell (England).

Cricket: 14yo Indian sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi to tour Australia

The Indian teen sensation who captured global attention earlier this year with a dazzling Indian Premier League century is bound for Australian shores. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14, will highlight the Indian under-19 side that will complete five tour matches against Australia's under-19s in coming months. The stylish left-hander struck a historic and age-defying century for the Rajasthan Royals in the coveted IPL in April. Suryavanshi faced a Gujarat Titans attack laden with Test experience and hit 94 of his 101 runs in boundaries. The innings prompted praise from cricketers across the world, including batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar. Prior to that knock, Suryavanshi crunched a 58-ball ton against Australia's under-19 team as a 13-year-old and a quickfire 143 against England. India's underage side will play three one-day and two four-day matches against Australia starting on September 21. The first three matches will be held in Brisbane before the final match in Mackay. Australia will announce its under-19 side shortly. Originally published as Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14, who struck an IPL century earlier this year is Australia bound

Wallabies vs British and Irish Lions: Nic White starts in final Test match for Australia

Australian scrum half Nic White will bring an end to his Test rugby career by starting in the number nine jersey for the Wallabies against the British and Irish Lions on Saturday. Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt has made four changes to the starting 15 who had their hearts broken last week in Melbourne, as the Lions scored in the final minute to claim a 29-26 win, and secure the series. Follow the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia on ABC Sport, including live blogs of all three Tests against the Wallabies. White announced on Thursday morning that he will bring an end to his professional rugby career at the end of 2025, and said his Test career would conclude following the Lions' series. "Rugby has given me so much to be grateful for. I've made some incredible memories, some lifelong friendships and had the opportunity to see the world," White said in a statement. "There's been great competition for the nine jersey here in the Wallabies for a number of years, and it feels like the right time to pass on the baton with some more good young players coming through who will need time in the saddle leading into what's going to be an unbelievable experience of a home Rugby World Cup in 2027." White will replace Jake Gordon, who started the previous two Test matches. Queenslander Tate McDermott will be the scrum half replacement off the bench, after being a makeshift winger for 60 minutes at the Melbourne Cricket Ground following Harry Potter's hamstring injury. Dylan Pietsch will start on the left wing for the Wallabies in place of Potter. Wallabies prop Allan Alaalatoa and flanker Rob Valetini have been ruled out of the third Test match with injury. Taniela Tupou, who impressed for the First Nations-Pasifika XV last week against the Lions, will start at tighthead prop. Tom Hooper will replace Valentin at blindside flanker, the third player to wear the number six jersey this series. Schmidt said the squad had recovered after the disappointment of last weekend's narrow defeat. "The squad was certainly deflated after the gut-wrenching end to last week's Test in Melbourne, but they have started to gather momentum in the back half of the week, and will be ready to go again on Saturday," he said. "The support in Brisbane and Melbourne helped to lift the squad, and I know the support this weekend in [Stadium Australia], will again help to lift the players in the high-pressure moments that we know are coming." The Wallabies will have a bench consisting of five forwards and three backs. The Wallabies' gamble to have just two back replacements backfired last week following the early injury to Potter. Andrew Kellaway returns to the side on the bench, while Zane Nonggorr comes into the side as a replacement prop. Calro Tizzano, who was the Wallaby at the centre of the controversial ruck prior to the Lions scoring the match-winner in Melbourne, is not in the match-day team. James Slipper, David Porecki, Taniela Tupou, Nick Frost, Will Skelton, Tom Hooper, Fraser McReight, Harry Wilson (captain), Nic White, Tom Lynagh, Dylan Pietsch, Len Ikitau, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, Max Jorgensen, Tom Wright. Reserves: Billy Pollard, Angus Bell, Zane Nonggorr, Jeremy Williams, Langi Gleeson, Tate McDermott, Ben Donaldson, Andrew Kellaway.
