3 East Lancs organisations up for grant from business aiming to 'make world better'
West Craven Warriors, Salesbury Primary School and Pendle Forest Hockey Club have all been shortlisted for the grant, worth up to £500, from PatchApp.
After receiving almost 100 applications to the fund, 15 organisations have now been put forward to the public vote, which will see the top five selected to receive the money.
PatchApp is a start-up home maintenance tech company operating across the North West and Yorkshire and was founded by Paul White and Conor Walsh.
Co-founder Paul White said: 'We're committed to leaving the world in a better place than we found it, and that's what drives a lot of what we do. We wanted to reach right into the heart of the communities we serve, and we thought that our Local Community Fund was the best way to do this'.
Pendle Forest Hockey Club was founded in 1967 and currently boasts three women's teams and a junior section for boys and girls.
Money received from the fund will be used on a coach training program, aimed at the juniors' sections.
Additionally, money will be contributed to new goalkeeper equipment.
Elsewhere, Salesbury Primary School will use the money to purchase new atlases and learning resources.
This aims to support learning and topic work across the school and to develop young people's skills and widen the range of learning they can offer.
Finally, West Craven Warriors is a volunteer-run Rugby League club based in Barnoldswick and provides coaching to juniors.
All rugby sessions at the club are completely free and are funded by fundraising events, food sales and grants.
A West Craven spokesperson said: 'We strive and are proud that the club is open to the whole community and no one is excluded.
'Not only do we provide rugby coaching, we also put on many team events where the juniors can come along and have fun with their teammates.'
PatchApp services are carried out by former members of the Armed Forces, who they with to ensure they have good, stable careers when they leave the Armed Forces.

Conor added 'The number of applications has been staggering, and it's been fantastic to see the wonderful work that is going on across the region.
'It's really heartening to see that there are so many people who care about their local communities. It's great to see so many finalists from Lancashire, our home County too'.
The public vote closes this Thursday evening, June 5, at midnight. Anyone can vote on the Community Fund page on the company's website.
Organisations can still apply for a grant, with a shortlist of organisations drawn up each month, which will then go to a public vote.

£10k fund launched to support local groups and good causes
A housebuilder has launched a £10,000 community fund to support small groups and good causes. Redrow South Midlands, which is currently building at The Steeples in Headington, Hampden Meadows in Watlington and The Maltings in Thame, is inviting applications from organisations, groups and individuals across Oxfordshire who need financial support for projects big or small. Andrew Newman, sales director at Redrow South Midlands, said: "We're proud to be building on the success of our previous community funds with a new £10,000 pot. 'We're asking local groups, charities and volunteers to tell us exactly what would make a difference to them – whether that's art supplies for creative workshops, outdoor gear for youth groups or tools for a community garden. "This fund will allow us to support even more brilliant causes in and around our developments and play our part in creating thriving communities." The annual scheme, which began in 2019, provides targeted donations to help groups continue their work. To date, Redrow South Midlands has donated £52,000 to a range of organisations. Mr Newman said the scheme is designed to offer "meaningful support" by responding to the specific needs of applicants. Charity helps more families in need thanks to funding from North East law firm
A CHARITY has been able to 'transform' its support for vulnerable North East families thanks to funding from the region's oldest law firm. Parent and Child Together North East (PACTNE) has used a grant from the BHP Law Community Fund to recruit a part-time Family Support Worker. It means PACTNE can increase its capacity and offer more hands-on support for families across Darlington, the Tees Valley, and the North of England. Sue Leighton, General Manager for the charity, said: 'BHP Law's support has been timely and transformative. Their contribution through the community fund allowed us to expand our team exactly when we needed it most. 'With their help, we've been able to maintain consistent, high-quality support for families facing extraordinary challenges. They've not just helped us fund a position, they've helped keep families together.' The new role includes offering one-to-one support sessions, parenting advice, practical family care, emotional well-being support, and crisis response. The law firm, which has roots dating back to 1835, has also supported the charity by providing expert legal advice and services through its Family Law team. Since its launched in 2011, the BHP Law Community Fund – managed and distributed by Point North – has awarded more than £19,000 in grants and enriched the lives of more than 9,000 local people. Kieran Dolaghan, Operations Director at BHP Law, said: 'We're incredibly proud to support PACTNE through the BHP Law Community Fund. Their work doesn't just change outcomes, it transforms lives.
