Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill among 14 to be introduced in monsoon session of legislature, says chief minister Fadnavis
Mumbai: With state govt scrapping the two controversial govt resolutions on the third-language policy, the Maharashtra Legislature's monsoon session may not be disrupted as envisaged.
On Sunday, addressing a press conference at Sahyadri state guest house, CM
Devendra Fadnavis
said 14 bills will be introduced during the monsoon session, including the Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill, 2025 which has been approved by the joint select committee. It is likely to be passed during the session.
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said the state cabinet has approved the supplementary demands and the bill will be introduced on the first day.
He added that Rs 3,600 crore was approved by the state cabinet to pay the next instalment of the Ladki Bahin scheme.
The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) boycotted the traditional tea party. Pawar said it has been boycotted for so many years the time had come to scrap it. "We can have our tea, hold the cabinet and address the press conference. The tea-party is an opportunity to hold a discussion..." he said.
The opposition is likely to corner the Mahayuti govt on the Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Highway and farmers loan waiver during the assembly.

The second edition of the Mahayuti govt is again unlikely to have a leader of opposition in the assembly.
State govt may also introduce the 'love jihad' bill during the session, but officials said that no decision had been taken about this bill. The draft of the bill to amend the Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 will also be introduced.

They are drenched in corruption...They are giving away Mumbai to Adani, imposing the Shaktipeeth highway. Govt has failed on all fronts, including law and order. The CM and his deputies are aiding criminals, govt hasn't paid contractors, and dues are pending. We will take up all these issues in the legislature.

Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray said, "This is a liars' govt. It works in three directions and each one is fighting against each other...for
guardian ministerships and appointment of PAs. All infraprojects like the Samruddhi Highway have potholes. This is a govt of scams..."
He also slammed govt for "tacitly backing" MSRDC, which he claimed was imposing "unjust" fines of Rs 12.5 crore on motorists using Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
Congress legislature party leader Vijay Waddettiwar also slammed the "most incompetent govt the state has ever seen". But Fadnavis said govt is unafraid and hence it has not curtailed the three-week monsoon session.

Hyderabad: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, after inaugurating the headquarters of the National Turmeric Board in Nizamabad on Sunday, said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fulfilled a 40-year-old demand of millions of turmeric farmers across the country, particularly in Telangana. Addressing a farmer's meeting where he had also unveiled the logo of the NTB, he said 'This promise made by the Prime Minister is now being realized. Nizamabad, known as the turmeric capital for decades and a location where farmers have cultivated turmeric for centuries, has not seen its product reach global markets until now.' However, with the formation of the National Turmeric Board, 'Turmeric from Nizamabad will be exported to many countries within the next 3-4 years,' he added. Amit Shah mentioned that once the NTB begins its operations, farmers will be free from the shackles of the middlemen. 'The Board will create a comprehensive chain for turmeric packaging, branding, marketing, and export.' Highlighting the medicinal properties of turmeric, Shah said, 'It is anti-viral, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory, and is recognized worldwide as a wonder drug. Consuming even a small amount can address multiple health issues simultaneously.' He also noted the beginning of production and marketing of GI-tagged organic turmeric.' Amit Shah said that the Centre has set a target of achieving one billion dollars in turmeric exports by 2030, 'with all necessary preparations already in place. The National Turmeric Board will ensure that farmers receive maximum value for their products, promote turmeric consumption in international markets, and publicise the medicinal benefits of Indian turmeric worldwide.' Additionally, the Board will ensure that the quality and safety standards of Indian turmeric meet global benchmarks, arrange for appropriate packaging, and provide training and skill development to farmers on effective harvesting techniques to prevent export-related obstacles. The Union Home Minister further added that research and development on the health benefits of turmeric will be conducted to showcase these advantages globally. He underscored that Nizamabad, Jagtial, Nirmal, and Kamareddy districts of the State are among the top turmeric-producing areas in the country. He recalled that in 2025, turmeric farmers received prices between Rs 18,000 to Rs 19,000 per quintal. Concerted efforts are underway to increase the price to an additional Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 per quintal over the next three years. In the 2023-24 season, turmeric was cultivated in 3,00,000 hectares in India, yielding 10.74 lakh tonnes. The Union Minister highlighted that Prime Minister Modi established National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL) to assist farmers engaged in exports and National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCIL) for those involved in organic farming. Shah noted that Modi has cultivated a culture of keeping promises, and the commitment made in 2023 to establish the National Trade Bureau (NTB) has been fulfilled.

THCAA members meet CM, seek advocates housing society at Rjnr
Hyderabad: The Legal CorrespondentTelangana High Court Advocates Association (THCAA) Executive Committee met Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at his residence in Jubilee Hills on Sunday. THCAA President Anumula Jagan, Secretary Khaja Vizarath Ali and other committee members submitted a representation to CM Revanth Reddy highlighting the grievances of High Court Advocates and legal fraternity. They requested to allocate 50 acres of land around the New High Court Building, which is under construction at Rajendranagar for the establishment of an Advocates Housing Society, which would greatly benefit the legal community. Moreover, the executive committee congratulated CM Revanth on the allocation of Rs. 1,028 crore for the construction of the New High Court Building at Rajendranagar. Additionally, they appealed for an annual allocation of Rs. 5 crore to the Telangana High Court Advocates Association to support various developmental and welfare activities for advocates. Furthermore, they requested to extend health insurance benefits to all eligible advocates enrolled post-2019 and to enhance monthly stipend to Junior Advocates from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 to support their sustenance and growth in the profession. They stressed the need of Advocates Protection Act, due to several brutal and disturbing attacks on advocates across the state of Telangana, creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among members of the legal profession. IAF lost jets over ‘political call', says def attache; quoted out of context: Govt
NEW DELHI: IAF lost some fighter jets when it conducted strikes on nine terror hubs in Pakistan and PoK on May 7 because India's political leadership had directed that no military establishments or air defences across the border were to be attacked on that day, India's defence attache to Indonesia, Captain Shiv Kumar, said at a seminar earlier this month. The remarks by Captain Kumar, who is a colonel-rank officer from the Navy, followed an acknowledgment of IAF's initial losses by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan on May 31 in Singapore but he did not specify the exact number of fighters shot down. Modi govt is yet to officially quantify IAF's losses during Operation Sindoor . Pakistan has claimed to have shot down six Indian fighters, including three French-origin Rafales, on May 7 itself - an assertion that CDS Chauhan dubbed as "absolutely incorrect". Captain Kumar's comments led Congress to renew its attack on govt over its handling of Operation Sindoor.
